I am using the iPhone 13 mini with an iPad mini 5. Previously I had used a first gen iPhone SE with an iPad mini 2. The combination works well enough for me that I have stuck with it through multiple generations of the products. Away from the home I love the small size of the mini iPhone. For my usage the battery lasts multiple days. Around home for videos and reading the iPad mini is a perfect size.

I've always hated big smartphones (I was a SE 2016 user before) and I'm fascinated to see that all the tech sites are currently « discovering » the positive sides of the ipad mini (here the 6, but everything was already true with the 5 and earlier models).

My iPad mini replaced my phone as my primary device, and my phone became much less necessary. But, watch out when you reach your 40’s, when you need a bigger phone screen just to get by😊. Agree, looking forward to updates for the iPad mini - refresh rate, M1 or M2, ProMotion, etc

There are two major points in favor of the iPad Mini that weren’t made in this video:
1.) As an iPad, it has access to iPad apps the iPhone doesn’t have access to, while having access to every iPhone app. For instance, I can’t play Divinity Original Sin II with an iPhone 14 Pro Max, but I can on the iPad Mini.
2.) Split View/Slide Over. While it could certainly work on the max sized iPhones, apple only allows iPads to use these multitasking functions. Having two or more apps on screen can be very convenient when needed.

The iPad mini is still necessary despite the iPhone Plus and iPhone Pro Max existing. If we ignore the cameras and ProMotion for a minute, the iPad mini still does a bit more compared to the iPhone. While the iPhone 15 Pro Max sounds promising since it will be getting USB-C, I still cannot see it replacing the iPad mini until Apple adds Split-View and Apple Pencil support.

I totally love my iPhone 11 and my iPad mini 6 combination, I know my iPhone has a old CPU however, with the iPad mini six, its got a very powerful A15 processor which is still really very up-to-date and very fast and snappy. I use my iPad most of the time when I am at home and I really have no problems using it and I much prefer using the iPad at home because it's got a bigger screen and it's perfect for watching content and social media. I feel like I don't have to upgrade to the latest iPhone yet because I don't have any problems with the performance. I've got a very fast small tablet that I can use when I'm at home and the iPhone 11 still doesn't feel slow and the cameras are still really good yeah . I love my iPad mini six very much. This is one of the most underrated Apple devices and I think this is one of my best purchase yet. cheers

Definitely the larger iPhone for me. But my ideal device would be a 7.5” iphone w/ Apple Pencil support and split screen.
The iPad Mini is just too wide to fit in my pocket, can’t be charged wirelessly in my car, and doesn’t receive non-FaceTime phone calls via cellular.

I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and an iPad Mini 6. To be honest, I love both devices and don’t have an issue with the portability factor for the Pro Max phone. But I do find as I get older, I need the bigger screen for reading emails and even iMessages on the go. Having my iPad Mini is awesome for viewing content and do use it a lot on the go. I also have 3 kids. They get our hand me down devices, ie old phones, but sometimes I want to share something with them when we are out and about. The iPad Mini is perfect for that and it is still way more portable than other iPads. And at night, it is perfect for my ebook reading and catching up on news when I first wake up in the morning. Not sure I would downgrade to a smaller phone on the next upgrade cycle in a year or two, but will definitely want to see the iPad Mini continue and be upgraded.

I totally agree with you. The only reason I got iPhone 15 Pro Max is because it has a better camera, battery and more storage, but normally I would choose a regular sized phone. Sometimes I even miss my 13 because of how comfortable to hold it was compared to Max. When it comes to iPad I currently have 9th generation one as its bigger screen is great for multitasking at uni. Next time, when I finish my studies, iPhone Pro and iPad Mini sound like a great combo to me.

When I do want to watch a movie not on my TV, I’ll use the iPad Pro. To be honest, since the days of my Windows CE HTC Wizard, I longed for a “phone” in tablet form. And I don’t think I was alone given how large phones have since become.
But give me an iPad Mini with cellular capabilities so I can use a headset with it. I mean the tech is there in software and hardware on a cellular iPad, it just needs to be enabled.
That would be the killer app for me. Let me buy an iPad Pro for work and let it also be my cell for work. Etc.

They either need to make the screen bigger and reduce the bezel (keeping the same form factor) or keep the same screen size and reduce the bezel (thus reducing the form factor).
I’d prefer the second option along with the display being OLED to save power. But regardless both options would be welcome as long as the screen was OLED.

I agree with allllll your points and would add that two devices means more security and reliability as you have a back up device in case anything happens. Buying 2 devices is more expensive initially, but the iPad lasts much longer than the iPhone. I’m still using the iPad mini 5, and skipped the 6 waiting for the 7 I don’t game though. I used to upgrade every generation until the 13 pro, because none of the newer features are must buts lately. When Apple intelligence becomes available, I’m probably gonna upgrade to mini 8 and keep the 13 pro for another year, because the 16 pro still isn’t that appealing to me. I meant I’m already shooting 4k60 with the 13 pro, the camera upgrade ain’t enough (I like to use apsc camera btw, so the phone camera just don’t cut it in many scenarios, and 13 pro has hit a plateau in phone camera IMO, until something amazing comes along.

I've always preferred small iPhones, SE 2016 when everyone was buying 6/7/8 Plus, and 13 mini a year ago. I've always bought them in a top version because they last me at least 4 years. I bought an iPad mini 5 top version with the new year, never made a better purchase. The 13 mini only turns on when I use it with the Apple Watch set up, otherwise I use the previous Watches with the SE 16. For the rest I use the iPad mini, the last one with the screen not 16:9, I chose the 5 for this very reason. I use it more than the 12-inch MacBooks, bought precisely because they are the most transportable of Macs. I don't know how people can carry around 250 grams of 13” phone or iPad with the excuse that they see each other better: they all look bad, if you want to enjoy a movie you have to use at least a 40”. Once Ive (not Apple) made reasoned products, but not suitable for the mainstream, and they fired it, now if you want a normal iPhone or a normal MacBook they don't exist, you have to buy a big 14 or a heavy Air, or maybe an iPad Pro, which is as useless as a job as an iPad mini but costs twice as a 12” MacBook, which The solution of those who buy it? Pretend macOS on iPad. Apple is right to make fun of them by selling junk at three times the price it's worth, because when Apple made the right products they just had to complain about. So that they pay and remain dissatisfied.

This time last year, I went from the iPhone 7 to the XS, while my kids went from the X to the 13 Pro. I'm really not a fan of the weight of their phone.
I'll probably stay with XS until Apple stops giving it the latest iOS, at which point I'm seriously considering swapping to a 13 Mini. It'll probably be 2nd hand, but I really can't see Apple reintroducing a Mini - unless the next SE uses the discontinued size. At the same time, I’ll still have my iPad Mini 5th Gen so, as you say, will have the best of both worlds.

In my opinion the challenge that yet needs to be addressed is the portability of IPad Mini vs the screen space as a scribbler for iPad Pro Max . My vision is for portability and functionality within the Apple family of products , is an iWatch for basic needs of connectivity and iPad for daily needs of computing ON THE GO . And to top it all off, I have an older 2017 iPad Pro whose battery is pretty shot. So that lives either docked in my kitchen for watching vids while cooking, recipes, etc, or plugged up to my Mac Mini as a second (3rd actually) screen for work. Main issue is apple’s reluctance and software management. Let me explain: if you buy the iPad mini it’s slow compared to iPhone pro and then with every software they get even slower so that’s a big bummer, second the discrepancies with regards to chip speed and ram and other components is pre existing. So it’s not a viable solution but a desirable one.
In the interests of reducing bio e waste and also better options I think it would be prudent for Apple to rejig the product line up to only offer 2 storage sizes. 512 and 1 TB for all devices. And also have same 2 chips only. Like for example remove A chips entirely and move all products to m1 and m2 .
If they claim that they care about the environment then they need to stop thinking about bumper profits and contribute more towards a leaner line up which works for all .

Hi there! Wondering if you think i should wait for the ipad mini 7 or get the 6 this Black Friday. I have an iphone 12 mini. I want a ipad mini to do 90% of my media consumption/calendar/productivity app etc. pretty basic usage. What are your thoughts :)
    Thanks in advance

Question, would you still recommend this one if we primarily use it to read comics? Is it still legible?

I love the idea but I like having the camera of the pro max.. also there are several apps on my phone that I can’t easily access from my tablet without doing 2step verification. I have a mini, iPhone and iPad plus pro max..

IPad mini is kid's product. Too small for any optimal productivity task such as writing on it or using it as a laptop with magic keyboard etc. It's only for entertainment and is already pointless of you either have a big phone or a full sized iPad already.

no watsapp on the ipad. The ipad is ok aroud a wifi or home, but for talking to people, that most of the people do every hour of the day... the larger phone makes more sense. i have a 12 pro.

I had an iPad mini 6 and here’s my take: screen is small, speakers aren’t that great, battery life isn’t great and Touch ID is in a weird spot especially when using it in landscape mode. Once you go Pro there’s no going back.
