The Lynyrd Skynyrd of today is not the same band as they were in the 70s. People really forget exactly how great Lynyrd Skynyrd was back in the day. Ronnie VanZant was an amazing story teller and song writer. Every person in that band was a top tier musician and a master at their instrument. They were amazing and there will never be another band like them. Blackberry Smoke comes close IMO.

Late to this party but if you havent figured out by now , Ronnie was channeling his empathy for poor folk ( of any creed ) in a blues story who couldn't afford a funeral and had no collateral to put up to fund it . "Mr. Banker" is a song by American Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was recorded in early 1973 at Studio One, Doraville, Georgia, and was first released as the B-side of "Gimme Three Steps" (a U.S. single release) in November 1973. It was not featured on any album until the compilation album Legend in 1987. It was also included as a bonus track on the 2001 reissue of the band's debut album, (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd).
The song was written by Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, and Ed King.[1]
    Content
The song is notable for its lyrics and simple blues guitar riff. The song is sung by Ronnie Van Zant, about a man begging the bank for money to bury his father. Despite misconceptions, the song is not about Van Zant's father, Lacy Van Zant.[2]

Someone may have mentioned it already. But this song was taken directly from their demo. And put on to the album. That's how good the producer felt their work was.

And another one 🔥🔥🔥🔥 review fam!!!
And I just want to say, on the “Sweet Home Alabama” issue ..... yes, I’m sure you have heard it, surely the hook is one you know .... but did you know it contains possibly the very first straight up CALLED OUT diss in music history??? You may have even heard the line, and I would bet it didn’t really mean anything because you maybe don’t know the back story .... and to truly understand ... this hurts to actually type what I’m about to type .... you have to first listen to “Southern Man” by .., Neil Young .... damn it my thumb just burst into flames!!!! 🤦‍♀️😂😂😂 And now that I think about it, NY could have been the very first victim of “cancelled” ... well at least in the South anyway 😜😂😂😂😎 THEN when you “hear” it in Sweet Home Alabama it will make sense 😉
All right, now that I have gone way overboard in the explanation department (and I don’t even think it’s my first time ... on this particular subject 🤷‍♀️) I’m just gonna hop on outta here now 🤦‍♀️😂

Van zant is the wizzard behind the words! the feeling! the band the sound. He was a prefectionist hard driving boss of the band. Practiced harded worked harder than any band. This bands road schedual was nuts . most of the music is about the bands hard times for 7 years as poor bar band. Van zant & band the words are their life. Pretty much. With maybe little made up. The more u listen the more u will like. It will turn too love in your soul if listen to it regulary? This is the greatest music group of any kind any were. The staying power old jam. The emition it brings out . without being to dirty.

In response to your question about what happens when a loved one dies & you have no money to bury them, at least where I'm at I guess they would be buried in what's known as the pauper's plots. Just in an unmarked grave. When my husband died all I know is our son flew in from where he lived & he went to the Mayor's office. It was arranged that my husband was cremated & I received his ashes. Some of my husband's ashes are buried on the side of his father's grave. It is not marked but, my son & I know where they are. My son dug the hold to bury them.
