KR models haven't made a good locomotive yet, lol😂. Just wasting your money unfortunately. It should make a great static model for a scrap yard scene though.
I very much enjoyed your review. Having seen reviews for this loco on other channels and commenting on one of them that I'm holding my breath for my long-standing pre-order of the KR Class 4DD, I'm now even more nervous! I wonder what on earth that will be like. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the delivery date keeps slipping for this model too. With ongoing negative publicity like this I really fear for the future of KR Models who should be doing all they possibly can to remedy the situation, and fast! Will they have the courage to come on here and answer some of this criticism? Come on KR Models!

I have a feeling if you see them before April you will be lucky... I myself would have liked a 4DD being Bulleid and different... But again alarm bells rung especially how quickly the tooled samples arrived... The window corner radius were too big... That was corrected... The top row of windows were too low.... The glazing on the prototype I saw last didn't follow the curve of the roof that well... But again I heard and read that "these were difficult because there's no drawings" well there's 2 end units you could have looked at... I hear more excuses than we need assistance on this... KR certainly don't help themselves... Communication poor... Research lacking... Knowledge of the model industry poor. I will say Keith was quick to replace the damaged model... Which is fair enough however with the amount of issues he won't have many spares.. the second on this video is ok but still not really £185 worth with so many things not right.. only positive thing I can say is it runs. The only way really apart from email to speak to KR is at an exhibition... Hopefully they will turn up... I know they are small... But it's better to make one excellent model at a time than several bad ones. I could forgive the 4 years if it was amazing and excellent..
Great to get your response.😊I agree with all of it. There seems to be surprisingly huge interest in the 4DD considering its very limited domain in the real world. One would assume that KR Models have a whole lot riding on this model and need it to go well.I live in the London area on the Southeastern network so it's 'close to home' for me.
Thanks, really good review it identified a lot I didn't know. I have the model modelled in black which I know it never ran in. Interesting though I didn't even realise it had whistles at the front, as on this model they failed to paint them. My coupling disintegrated when I tried to add the NEM coupling, it was then that I noticed someone had glued both of them in. Fortunately Rails sent me a replacement. I like the loco but for me detail is not everything, I am more interested how it runs. I find it amazing though that they couldn't get the wheels right I am not a "rivet counter" but even I know what a Bulleid wheel should look like. Oh and the sheet of DCC commands is wrong. I bought the sound version and the cab lights are on F4 not F19 and seeing as it is quite an easy thing to change in software you would think they would have changed it to suit the manual. On Jenny Kirk's review on the pre production one it was F4 so you would have thought they would have cross checked.

Yeah I had to do a lot with my own. And I painted my buffer beams red to make it look correct. The sorely forget that buffer beams were red as a safety feature.
As DCC Sound Owner, On the back of the DCC sounds listing sheet is how to fit Decoder. There is NO Expositive Diagram in paperwork which might be helpful if you have Trouble Shoot. Run my Backward and Forwards And Like it Probern that need Sound on to work Whistles. I wheel fall off on BLUE GT3 that Owen on DCC Ready
Hi Matt, enjoyed your no holds barred review. I think my dcc fitted silver / grey version has arrived at home. Im away currently but due back tomorrow! I'm now concerned that i may arrive to a pile of parts but we'll see! An issue you raised was wheels dropping off, that worried me enormously, how does this happen, just not fixed to axle i expect? Its been an awfully long wait for possible disappointment! 😂😂😂 not eased by a haphazard communciation system between KR and customers leaving you in rhe dark mostly! We shall see, brilliant indepth review! I👍👍👍
@@aveedub7403 hello yes I think some have had a big impact....my first had broken the plastic ice block packaging... But the box had no damage... So odd... But we think some of these that have had wheels loose have had similar damage. So it's a worry for those who have them delivered by evri. Yes KRs communication has been lacking... On all fronts... And their openness to feedback as well. I appreciate and I thank you for the comments I prefer to be straight I know many want wonderful and brilliant and I've seen a few.. as someone said this model of Leader sits between Gt3 and the Fell.. from good to bad.

@@bluebellModelrailway Thanks for that. The overhang is no surprise. I grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the home of the Big Boys and Challengers. I really, really wanted to model the UP mainline across Wyoming, but I realized very quickly that I did not have room for the overhang of those locos, let alone the pure tracks space needed. I figured I'd need at least 52" radius curves to make it look reasonable. That's why I reverted to my time in the UK and now model British/Scottish Rail. (Choosing that type of railroading is lonely hobby here in the U.S., but being able to fit a rake of eight Mk 1 coaches behind an appropriate loco without having to run track through the kitchen has been a reward. Besides, I can employ Rule One with impunity.)
I think that for the price of this model it falls someway short on details and quality. I personally didn't order one of these for which I am now glad, these problems have kind of put me off KR models locomotives, they are going to have to improve considerably before I consider purchasing from them. @@Alpha-oo8 manufacturers get given production slots at factories... Some get missed due to shortage of items... Dcc chips and components... Being one.. despite knowing the body didn't fit in 2021 it took till 2023/4 to redesign the PCB and also chance the dcc socket. Hope that helps explain
Is KR a genuine company? I’ve seen their stand at various exhibitions and the display looks great, but you wonder which manufacturer they use to make these. Other companies would have ironed these problems out before the model was released to the public.
@@AndrewCutts-f8w KR Models was created for the owned to make his favorite locomotive GT3, however I would say the owner has no modelling experience or experience in that model industry... The stand is nice.. but as mentioned in the video it should have had 2/3 passes in CAD checks before entering tooling, but it also hasn't been developed in the right way.. COVID did get in the way but there were people in the know who offered help but didn't get listened or followed... When you're a small company every piece of help or assistance should be welcomed... It's not the factories fault... When they have been given 1 drawing.
Such an iconic loco, its a great pity that the model isn't correctly detailed. Maybe, if there's another batch made, they will have some of the errors corrected. One thing that you didn't mention is that the fireman's door and roof hatch were almost always open when running, so its important that the door and hatch are able to be opened. The problem with that, however, is that the inside of the cab would then need to be modelled, but the motor is probably in the way.
@@henrybest4057 well yes they usually are... But as they are all moulded closed on this and not able to open to cool the motor down I was more focused on the main issues... And as you rightly point out it's just a motor and nothing else...
Got a definite wobble whilst running on the rolling road. Unacceptable for the price of the loco. Take a look at Sam's Trains review, he's is not impressed either. One of the wheels were loose. Also, he had problems with his Fell. It's a shame as Leader is a loco I've always been interested.
My DCC sound version arrived two driving wheels loose on axles and steps off same as others. I pressed the wheels back on carefully but they came loose again. A lot of money and disappointing in terms of quality and finish.
Great video. Not a loco I’d like, but it shows how disappointing KR models are. Looking forward to seeing their Big Bertha, but not holding my breath on how well the model will become. At least KR Models have managed to capture the essence of failure in the model, like the real thing.
I’m disappointed with my sound version, straight out the box! It seems to run well, but one of the ladders is missing, but is present on the wrong side? One of the front ladders came off very quickly! I have had to glue it back in place. The clamshell packaging was broken at one end and the NEM pockets seem to face downwards! The sound version has an auto uncoupling shuffle, which is good, obviously due to the misalignment of the couplings, can’t be used! After 3 years and 11 months, I would have expected a much better model.😢
I remember a while back being interested in KR's Shay. After seeing how many of their models are total trash, I don't want it anymore. KR needs to make a HUGE public apology. This model is so bad that I wonder if its a scam.
KR MODELS = LIMA PRODUCTION METHODS OF YESTERYEAR ? Bad, very bad ! Just the fact that you can show us detailed photos of the original. Casts immediate questions over whether "KR Models" have the qualifications, understanding or desire to produce "quality" models. And certainly "RM Web" do not seem to give this company a good review. Quote "Cheap & Cheerful" & "accuracy based on it looks about right". Unquote. Rings of old Cheap bucket market LIMA methods of production to a pre-set cost "Price" ! But KR have set the retail price in the £180 range ? Wouldn't rate this product at a value of more than £75, with so many glaring faults. Which creates serious doubt over the mechanisms ability to be reliable, smooth, and whether "spare parts" (as now required under British Law), will be available !
So basically a rubbish model been sold at a high price. Only ever brought one KR Model the Fell it was crap just derailed all the time leant my lesson.
An excellent review .Its just a pity the manufacturers research seems to be poor as well as some quality issues.IMHO when you intend to produce an odd ball type loco a project expert needs to be appointed to ensure the model is as correct as it can possibly be.

What a disappointing model. I like quirky locos & would have been interested in this, but after seeing some sloppy work on their earlier models, I chose to not order one. I am glad I didn't. The lack of roof wash-out plugs is poor, wrong typeface for the numbers is a really sloppy mistake. Black bufferbeams is even poorer, but I think worst of all is the manufacturer trying to convince you that they should be black! How can all the photos of it be wrong? To lie like that is despicable. He was either lying by telling you they were black, or by claiming he knew what colour they were.

This is more highlighting areas that those who do not know Leader the prototype and the model can make an informed opinion... If you actually listed there was mention of running... Will you do a follow-up after running on the track? I'm curious as to whether the slowing on smaller curves is common.

I've got exactly the same model as you, yet mine does not feature steps to the Fireman's compartment, on the opposite side to the door.
Who knows maybe they have fallen off, knowing the build quality.. I have had 2 and both are the same.

Mine was missing a lamp iron and another was bent, waiting for an exchange

Is it over scale height? I don't have one, but photos I have seen look like it is too tall.

Very poor quality glad I didn't buy one
No idea how it performs on the track or around curves or how powerfull ( or not) it is ..........very poor review in my opinion
@@fastmike1000 as explained on all videos I do not have room for a layout... Unfortunately it is what it is... This is more highlighting areas that those who do not know Leader the prototype and the model can make an informed opinion... If you actually listed there was mention of running... On good and bad examples but you obviously skipped those parts.
