Happy birthday! Deja Vu is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is a beautiful, fragile ballad that kicks your teeth down your throat in the chorus. If you ever watch Mera's guide "Dodging Disbandment and other extreme sports" about Dreamcatcher, you'll know why InSomnia are "holding this pain" when it comes to the first win. By the way, the iconic "Holding this pain" part was sung by Handong, the Chinese member who was missing for Scream and Boca because she got stuck in China after Covid started. It is extra difficult to sort out, because it tells the story from two perspectives. You know how even evil people think they are the good guys? This is reflected here. One perspective is Yoohyeon's, who gets corrupted right in the beginning. She thinks JiU is bad (does not want to share power) and backstabs her and kills, imprisons or banishes the other members so that she can rule alone. The other perspective is reality, where we can see JiU be kind to Yoohyeon, but she gets killed for it. It's not exactly a Deja Vu per definition, but I believe this is a commentary on the different perspectives people can have about the same event.
Thanks so much! Honestly I’ve never heard a group express things so beautifully. The most meaningful lyrics so far, and so far from my typical taste! I think that’s why I’m so into them! Another girl had mentioned Handong missing, I noticed there was 6!

wow happy birthday, and a coincidence one of dc's members also has a birthday within the same day :o I know the lyrics are very abstract and normally flies over the heads of people who first watch the video, but it carries a recurring theme in dreamcatcher's discography. the 'deja vu' part refers to life's hardships that seemingly reoccur over and over but in order to overcome and move forward, sometimes sacrifices have to be made. another major recurring theme is staying true to yourself even if it's not the easiest route. in the video, one member is overcome by greed and betrays her friends but one of her best friends makes a sacrifice so she's 'fallen' but is also 'saved' because although she lies dead at the end, she's reborn symbolized by the butterflies, yet another recurring imagery in their videos. this can be linked to dreamcatcher's history because before they were dreamcatcher, they were another group called minx which did the stereotypical sounds/concepts you see in kpop. however some of the members hated it and they were not very successful to boot so they threw it all away to reform as dreamcatcher. yes I know, information overload lol but just in case you were curious and it would help in understanding some of their songs you check out in the future :)
Thank you so much! So happy you posted this because I love the background behind a group. Honestly it makes me love them more. After I watched light up the sky, I fell in love with Blackpink! The more info the better. And I was actually looking for this comment haha someone else said the story was explained below, guessing it’s this comment! I love that, staying true to yourself. Especially now in a world where everyone’s trying to become “popular”, so important. Thanks so much and thanks for the birthday wishes!🥰
@@SashaArella If you are looking for the background on Dreamcatcher, there is no better video than "Dodging Disbandment and Other Extreme Sports". I know it has been mentioned by others, but it is so informative and so well done that it bears mentioning twice. :P
Happy birthday!! It was also Yoohyeon’s(sitting on the throne in black dress) birthday yesterday! You aren’t kidding about their beauty. Jiu(blonde hair, pink dress) was crowned visual queen of kpop by Forbes and ranked #1 in 100 most beautiful faces in kpop on King Choice. I love how this song slowly builds up the emotion and then just releases everything during the chorus. It’s so good! Welcome to the cult! …I mean, family!
LMFAO the cult, hahaha thanks so much for this! your comment made me laugh out loud at the end. these girls are amazing, can't wait to listen & react to more. Thanks for watching!💜 and for the birthday wishes!
Happy birthday 💜🥳 Btw 7th of Jan is Yoohyeon’s birthday too, (Yoohyeon = the girl with the black dress who was sitting on the throne at the end) I’m so glad that you liked the song, I even confessed of being an insomnia 😂💜 I’m so happy, and welcome to the fandom 💜🥳 If you want to know more about the members, I suggest you to react to the ultimate guide (anyone of them, maybe 2020 ver.), you will really enjoy it and you will get to know more about DC and the members 💜💜 And thank you so much for giving us this nice reaction 💜💜
Yay! I'm so glad you liked it! As others have mentioned, Yoohyeon's birthday is also Jan 7th! I swear, I love this song so much. So much that, if I'm not careful, it hits me right in the empath and it's tissue time. Handong's "holding this pain" lines hit different sometimes. Idk. The way I interpret the literal situation in the video, there's so much sadness in Yoohyeon's character that it messes me up. Her deja vu is trying to forget all of the awful things she did to her close friends in her ascent to power. She can't/won't let go of the good memories with those friends because she has nothing left but said memories. Each time she thinks about those good memories, all of killing, imprisoning, exiling, etc. that she did immediately overtakes them and it tears her apart. Now, I don't feel bad for the character because she did horrible things, but the music makes you feel those strong emotions she's holding in. It's a punch in the emotional gut. Thanks for the reaction, as always! Happy birthday!
Haha wow this whole time I really thought other commenters meant it’s the 6th not the 7th! I realize now we’re all different time zones! 😆 dang. So I guess we’re a day apart because I’m the 6th and she’s the 7th. Girl, (please tell me you’re a girl hahaha) when a song hits… I can cryyyyyy. I hear you on that! First song to do that to me was Rose’s, on the ground! (I know different from this group, but so so good)
@@SashaArella I looked at the posted date of the video and was thinking there might be a confusion on the date. I thought I'd sneakily add the date in there. XD Actually, not a girl. Not offended or anything. lol. I've just been through some shit and get a little too empathic when someone's struggling emotionally. I've always been open with my feelings before the bad times anyway. On The Ground did that to me too. haha. Doesn't happen every time, all the time, with one exception. Wendy from Red Velvet. I can't make it through anything on her solo debut album. It was the first work she had done since the accident in Dec 2019. It came out early 2021. She's described the reasons for making the album. Basically, she wanted to express her feelings for everyone that helped her stay positive and gave her hope during her hospitalization. She also just wanted to let out the feelings she was having during that time. All of the anxiety as to whether or not she'd be able to do her job as well or at all anymore. Reading the lyrics along with her voice and all of that context just rips me apart. I was already in love with her vocals so it just gives them so much more power. One that happens more than I want it to is songs about July 7th. Dreamcatcher and Red Velvet both have one. For Red Velvet, the English title is "One of These Nights", but the hangul is 7월 7일 (July 7th). Also, in Red Velvet's case, only the lyrics are about July 7th. There's a Korean/Chinese folk lore about a destined couple that can only see each other one day of the year. The lyrics I've seen both essentially go over the struggle of what hurts more, having to wait a year or knowing that this day has to end. Idk. When you have great vocalists like Red Velvet and Dreamcatcher behind that sort of thing, it hits. Also, comments are no problem! :) Don't mind helping people discover new stuff. I've only been "into K-pop" since late last August so I'm still new to a lot of things. It's exciting sharing things you just found out about and like a little too much, you know?
@@_vkos_ I’m so sorry, my apologies! 😫Dreamcatcher just does that to you cause they’re that darn good! When I like a group I get sooo into them it’s hard for me to do reactions to others without wanting to come right back hahah. Just did BTS & all I have on my mind is dream catcher!👀😆💜
@@SashaArella No need to apologize, for real! 😂 I....actually haven't voluntarily listened to a full BTS song. I'd rather focus on girl groups and I know that BTS is a path down which many don't return. I'm almost afraid to commit to checking them out. 🤣 So, if Dreamcatcher is pulling you away from BTS, that's pretty intense. 😂 Honestly, I did not think I'd get this hooked to a group this quick. Not just their music either. So many compilation videos of how strong they are together, how much they care about their own art, and how they make sure that everyone else around them knows their respective hard work is noticed and appreciated. They really are a magnificent group of individuals. Also, January 13th is their anniversary! On Friday the 13th, January 2017, they made their (re-)debut as Dreamcatcher! I assume someone has either brought this up before or you've seen it while researching, but Dreamcatcher wasn't always Dreamcatcher. 5 of the members debuted as a group called "Minx" in late 2014. Their concept was a stereotypical "cutesy, innocent" girl group. Due to various reasons, Minx inevitably failed. The group was essentially disband, but HappyFace decided to switch it up, keep the girls in a group, add 2 more girls, bring in completely new visual and production teams, and flip the concept on its head to the complete opposite of what it was. Ta-da! Dreamcatcher was born! Unfortunately, their new sound was a double edged sword. Rock wasn't and still isn't preferred in K-pop. Knowing the heartbreak of Minx and tribulations they've had to go through by sticking to their identity as Dreamcatcher, you have to respect how far they've come and how resilient they've been through it all. Like I said, I did not plan to be this attached to a group like this. insomnicsy_인썸닉씨 is a legendary content creator for Dreamcatcher. If you get some spare time to watch, insomnicsy made a cute 5 year anniversary video for them. th-cam.com/video/3mo70opPGyU/w-d-xo.html

Her 2020 This Is ... series also has a video for the group as a whole. Do not worry about the names, btw - it took me two months to tell SuA from Siyeon but now Siyeon is my ultimate in Kpop as a whole because of her vocals. InSomnia are really supportive of reactors, and we've all been there. As for the fashion - they often go for a very cohesive look as is the case with the white set here. But there's always variations in the styling. Someone will inevitably have a crop-top (which they all can pull off, of course) and I give thanks to the holy stylist when Siyeon is not in trousers (which suit her perfectly well and may be her preference, but she's in them a lot in the early title MVs at least).
