0:52 Just a correction:
25 different categories. 21 winners.
One person won twice. One person won 3 times.
Selen got both FPS and Gamer of the Year, while Ironmouse got Miss Vtuber, best streamed event and Vtuber of the year
25 winners, 21 distinct winners.
25 trophies, 21 winners.
Unless you count Fuwamoco as 2 people and not 1, the awards were for VTubers not channels 😉
So 25 categories, 22 winners.
Wait, if there are three wins for Mouse (two repeats) and two wins for Selen (one repeat), and there are 21 winners... 21+3=24. Was there a category with no winner?
Tbh if you don't want an award show to be a popularity contest you could split some of the categories in ranges (10k, 100k and 1M+ range)...but then again there is a lot of extra time needed and frankly I don't see that happening considering how long this award show was
There is a couple ways to adjust these things though every system has its pros, cons, and skews. Example this awards was fan vote for nominations and winners, this obviously means most the results will come down to popularity overlapped with those aware of the pool, with the main pro is that the winners will at least fit the average of the fan base so while your fav might not win likely at least a large groups fav did, and the obvious con is that small names tend to get drowned out unless in specific small name categories. On the opposite side you have stuff like the oscars that is select committee only. The skew is obviously that things that appeal to the committee will win more often, there is a reason oscar bait is a genre of its own, the pro of the system is that because its mainly insiders the popularity contest aspect is reduced letting smaller names preform better, and the main con is that because its committee system that you can get dissonance if the opinion of committee is very different then the average viewer. You can also hybrid the systems or adjust what the pool is selected which reduces certain impacts but obviously at the cost of raised complexity.
Even with "the popularity contest model" of award shows the fact that so many people got to see clips of Vtubers that they may not have never heard of or hadn't had much exposer to is great for those "less popular" or Indie Vtubers and can only help them out in the long run.
Since the event seems to be aimed at western vtuber audience I feel like the results are fairly inline with expectations. Probably went under the radar in JP but I can imagine the nominees and winners would be very different if they took bigger part in the voting.
Over all great stuff, hoping next year we will see some improvements with the length and as you mentioned some better clip selection.
I feel that Houshou Marine from Hololive should have been chosen in a VTuber category this year. She hit it out of the park with her 4th Anniversary 3D Show Live event as well as a number of memorable anime MV, including "Stay With Me", "Shinkiro" and "Loli God Requiem (Cover)".
Also, the broad VTuber personality categories would not work well for something award each year. Does the choice of VTuber change much for "Best VTuber Org", "Best Comedian", "Best Gamer", etc? Perhaps the award categories should be more event focused, such as "Funniest Moment", "Best Solo Music Event", "Most Meme Video", "Best Debut or Outfit Reveal" similar to the current categories "Best Concert Event", "Best Charity Event", "Competitive Gaming Event", etc. I feel only "Rising Star" and "VTuber of the Year" makes sense to award on an individual basis.
I'm sure marine have 1 nominee
This is why a lot of award shows have a certain group of "industry experts" make the main decisions on winners with some input from the communities. This show was 100% votes from the communities, so it was completely a popularity contest and who had the most viewers to go vote for them.
If they'd do it again next year, it's better they leave the JP vtubers off any category. The JP vtubers aren't even aware they're nominated and thus didn't mention any of it in their streams, because if they did, they'll crash the survey site and be a landslide victory for them. Just from the stream numbers, the awards show had 50k live viewers total from Twitch and YT and that's a regular live view count from a normal Marine or Pekora stream.
The last 2 years of these awards have kinda shown that it's very much a heavily western audience oriented show and there's probably a 70-30 slant towards English content over those who don't specifically cater for that audience(if not a far harsher slant in that direction).
Woah calm down this is mostly on the EN side
Spot on with a lot of your musings.
Clips could definitely have been curated better. For instance, after one of Mouse's wins, they had a clip of her saying "Oh, It's November first. You know what that means." Annnnd... the clip kept going, in silence, though you could hear her typing out a message... for 15 seconds... lol
Another 'whoopsie' I noticed was in the Org of the year; Silvervale was in the Team VShojo roll, despite leaving at the... end of April?
And then, yeah, a fair few other clips were doubled, weren't that impactful, or didn't really feature the streamers in their best moments. Should have hired Cooksie.
All in all... I didn't actually notice how long it went. I was honestly entertained the entire time, and the racing-cart sections were spaced out enough that you could use those four minutes for a bathroom-and-snack break.
Absolutely fantastic effort, and certainly something I'll look forward to next year, massive sponsors or not. And hopefully, after seeing how well it was produced, every single nominee may be waiting in the wings to give a speech.
Thanks, Evan~!
Overall pretty good, better than I expected for the first iteration of a big event like this. It seemed generally pretty well organized and coordinated.
Being a popularity contest means we'll always get a sweep by big organizations since they have the resources to advertise their talents more. It would be nice to have some separation between the big players and the others, at least for some categories, especially the ones where we're supposedly evaluating some technical skill of the streamer like "Best Gamer" and "Best ASMR".
The only thing that disappointed me was how the hidden gem category was handled. If we're talking about very small creators there will be no obvious winner. Instead I think they should have had more of a showcase of a larger number of people, without awarding any specific one as THE hidden gem.
this 100%
small/indie creators stands very little chance when it comes to organizations like Hololive, Vshojo, or Nijisanji
One of my biggest gripes with the award show was that Henya won Rising Star. I don't think a Rising Star is someone that debuts to 10 000 people and who everyone knows from a previous career. I feel like Rising Star should be someone that actually started small and blew up this year, Camilla or Ruthless (who I admit I only found out about from the award show) seem to fit the bill for it more so than Sinder or Henya.
Also why no 'M' Vtuber', like you got 'Miss Vtuber', 'Mr' shouldn't be an issue.
Otherwise I thought it alright, 5 hours is def to long though
I voted for Camila myself even though I'm a Hen-tai. I mean I'm thrilled Henya won but I can see why people would say otherwise; HOWEVER, Henya is specifically a different character that has no prior history, irregardless of what we know of the past.
@@ResidentWeevil2077 Henya really shouldn't have been in the Rising Star category. That's like a star in a sports league winning Rookie of the Year years after they entered the league just because they changed their name.
@@lupanellise9275 comparing apples to oranges, next.
@@ResidentWeevil2077 How so? There are Pikamee clips on YT with hundreds of thousands of views. Her final stream as Pikamee had something like 50k+ live viewers.
@@lupanellise9275 as I said, apples to oranges; who Henya was at that time is irrelevant now and is a different character, despite her mannerisms being relatively the same. This is just you huffing copium trying to justify your point when there's no point to be made. End of discussion.
For the record, this whole thing was a $100k gamble for Filian.
It was really really well done, Kudo's to everyone involved.
I think the event itself was great, but whoever was responsible for choosing art and clips did a HORRIBLE job at it. Some of the clips used to demonstrate a vtuber's talent at different things made absolutely no sense and they sometimes used clips of dead air where nothing was happening or even being said. The clips chosen were just horrible, and there really isn't an excuse for that because they had a long time to pick good clips for each of the nominees, it apparently just wasn't a priority to do any good work on that end and that is disappointing.
Another thing I was rather disappointed in is that when Selen and Mika were being interviewed prior to the show starting, they gave them the wrong names and no one ever noticed or corrected it or even acknowledged it. However, it also led to some hilarity because Mika and Selen DID notice and they ran with it pretending to be each other and making funny content out of the whole thing, which was great, but still very unprofessional.
Yeah well, for their first time, I think they did pretty well. Sure there were some issues here and there, but nothing to ruin the awards show levels of bad. As for the clips part, clipping can be quite difficult and yet they have to do so for 21 vtubers.
I also agree the clipping isn't the best. But it was good especially the scale of it is big. Its a fun show. Mistakes are inevitable for first time
It could have been worse. She talked quite a bit about things she reviewed and changed, like the music choices, and even the animations for her character. Originally they had some random anime girl voice over her transisitions that obviously sounded nothing like her. So she last minute recorded her voice to fix that, while they saw no issue with it.
I hope she can find people next year who truly understand the audience and culture.
They also used AI art for Suisei while they used just the models for all the other nominees. How did no one notice or thought that was fine?
@@DraconicaArt nice review man. Though your second message is sent twice, but it is good to know. I didnt follow fillian. Only some hololive i follow for yputuber. I do think it is hard to hire event organizer or event set up for vtubers since vtuber in avarage people eyes are just anime girls talking. Heck they even thought it was AI even thoigh most arent (Its not I hate AI ok. Neuro sama is really cool). Vtuber as a whole is still a niche. Most of the follower is strictly speaking anime fans. But even that demograpihics are still not that big. I have some friends whole likes anime but for vtuber i can count one hand who watches and about half know somewhat off it.
Especially hiring lrlffesionals. Vtubers are still a niche not mainstream so this may very well be the first time they do vtuber events. But i still aplreciate what Filian is doing. Heck I can even say to make events like this. I only expect corpos that are as big as Holo, Niji, or Vshoujo to do. Really great event and overall it was a fun event
I was hyped for Selen on this event, so glad she won 2 awards (Best FPS VTuber and Gamer of the Year)
Absolutely agree with the observation on the used clips. Amazing show just clip selection and the editing and repeating of those clips for winners made it seem more like an afterthought quality wise.
Absolutely criminal that Haatons werent even nominated for dedicated fans
Henya winning a rising star category is like play Dota with smurf id😂 and imo, subathon is not an event....but all of it is my personal opinion
it was long but it feel nice. better having skits than Adds like in the game awars. much love to all the vtubers, and specially to the 4 nominees to hidden gem . all of them got a ton of new subbs just there!
I think....Pekora should be won the Vtuber of the Year....because she already made her own concert with 15k viewer, and the most get stream revenue of the year in TH-cam.
For the art for Ina, they used an image of a fanmade 3D model instead of an official model image like Calli, Bijou, and FuwaMoco. And I also think they desperately need multiple people to curate the clips and have them actually fit the category. I also have an issue with the Vtuber history compilation, specifically for the Hololive part. It credits Coco for Vtubing blowing up in the West, when she was just a small part. It totally dismisses Fubuki, Korone, and Miko being _the_ members who went viral, and the Azur Lane collab in 2019. Coco always gets too much credit for that.
And I have _no idea_ why they showed Niji EN clips when mentioning that EN Vtubing exploded after Myth debuted. Like ?????? LMAO. So yeah they definitely need people to better curate these videos overall
next year iit'll be better I guess. That's a first shot, of course there are space for improvements :)
Well, Coco did quite a lot for other members and she usually is the one that most get introduced to. Her content was chaotic and easier to relate to western audience. And most people come after the lockdowns begin, although Hololive is more active in IP business very early on.
There are several factors that bring people in, like everyone jumping in the Ark stream immediately once they realize there is an audience, several trying to speak English to make things more relatable, and of course Haachama cooking. But if people want to point to one thing in common it is probably Coco, they will definitely know Coco even if they are brought in by others' meme.
After all this award come from a western community perspective. If people objectively evaluate how significant the Vtuber is in 2023, it is weird that KAF from Kamitsubaki or Suisei with The First Take and in Japan Music fes, is not in best Music / Brave Group is not in Rising Group given Vspo success and recent take up of Himehina / Marine literally invited VA to run audition and record a trailer for her unfinished games, and still Fuwamoco has better recognition since people can actually understand the stream / and Vsaikyo is objectively better show by higher ccv and how influential it is in Vtuber scene, even professional and ex-pro like rpr is in it someway
@@mouseii88 I disagree with the Coco take simply by looking at the most viewed vtuber clips during the lockdowns. It wasn't Coco's. It was mostly clips of JP vtubers, mainly Fubuki's shitposting, Miko's legendary GTA run (especially the n-word incident), and Korone being memed to death. While Coco was instrumental in showing emerging EN vtubers how the industry works, the make it or break it factor to stay relevant has always been the clips.
@@RejectHumanityReturn2Monke You are right, but Coco is more recognizable to EN audience and she is very influential to EN Vtubers industry and community, thus significant and people will talk a lot more about her. There are just so much more than talents to the Vtuber scene but the community generally favor more towards talents. Success story get attention, and details stay on boring documentary.
its hillarious that MYTH isnt the history at all when they are the one who made the ENVtuber really a thing
I agree, 5 hours was a strain, but on the whole went pretty well.
Filian's outfits deserved a mention, she looked the part.
There were a Lot of Vtubers that did not get acknowledged, but that's life.
Maybe next time they will cast their net wider.
Okay i've clicked on this video with a fear of badmouthing while i got nostalgic and hoping the next award show comes tomorrow xD i have to admit the orange made me laugh xD
People hate popularity awards and judge panel awards. People are never happy
Asmon replying to Melody's Best Lewdtuber of the Year made my year 🤣🤣🤣
Very happy with the Vtuber Awards. I do wish Giri could've won League Of Their Own, but that's the only thing I would've changed. The Oh Baby Cart parts were very entertaining, and never felt like just a sponsor segment. If Filian hadn't been hosting, she'd be my pick for Most Chaotic. I prefer Numi's music over Calli's, but both are great and Calli does deserve the win just based on hard work. Ironmouse deserves both of her wins without a doubt.
Calli actually responded last night and TL;DR she was initially conflicted about the VTAs because she didn't know anything about them. It was only after she won that she was informed it was the fans who voted for her so she made a thank you post on YT.
If we are talking first Vtuber in regards to streaming services... I think that would be The Den of Tools, He released his first video as an avatar in August 2016, 3 months before Kizuna Ai debut.
Where there's smoke, there's fire.
There's a reason why Hololive is so popular, and it's not because they're a big company now. They are popular because they have amazing eye for talent and each and every talent genuinely deserved to win. Unlike a typical popularity contest where the "popular kids" can win shit they don't even qualify for, this was not the case.
Case in point, Takanashi Kiara from Hololive did NOT win the category she was nominated for best Zatsu streamer, the award went to Shylily. Pekora has ~50% more watch time this year than Ironmouse, and yet Ironmouse won. The Hololive sports even didn't win, the Ironmouse subathon won.
So I completely disagree with you that this was a pure "popularity contest" since the winners were popular BECAUSE they were really good at the category they got nominated for in the first place. No one won a category they had no right to win due to their popularity.
Everyone's win was well and truly deserved, the whining online is because people are salty that their personal favourite VTuber didn't win the category they wanted to see them win. (And I say that as a diehard Hololive fan who was really disappointed Kiara didn't win, but I am realistic and I feel Shylily deserved it more inspite of my personal feelings).
I would argue Henya shouldn't have been qualified for the rising star award, other than that though I agree
I don't think it was too long. The reason why award shows usually last 1-3 hours is because most of it is ads and the rest is just naming the winners really fast as if it was just a secondary thing. At least with 5 hours there is something for everyone and everyone who were available could do their speech and, well, bills will still be paid. No one is forced to watch that one racing game segment, do some excercise, go get some food or something.
fun show. I loved seeing my favorite pink rabbit nominated, next year we will win for sure!!! or the next event, I don't know how often this program will run.
I was wondering if you wanted to be involved in such an event and then I see you already mentioned 11:53 what many felt could have been more streamlined.
Honestly in the end it is just a bit of fun, there could be a lil bit of polish in some places but overall I think it's a good step in the right direction, it could even get people interested in vtubing in general if it just appears in recs!
I mean, my only... Disappointments I'll say, cuz I can't really complain about it is I feel like Henya doesn't really count as a rising star if she already had an existing fanbase from her PL, compared to some new vtubers that started this year for example. The other one is that it felt like there was not much care in picking clips for the nominees? I couldn't watch the awards live, but I saw that the clip used for the Kindred nomination was kind of random, like a very out of context clip from a Minecraft stream that doesn't have much relevance to representing Kindred? It doesn't take even ten minutes to find a good clip if you just search up something like [vtuber]'s message to fans or something like that, something that can properly show the dedication of the community. This also isn't a complaint, but when I saw Chumbuds was nominated, I knew they would win just by quantity alone so there was barely a competition for dedicated fanbase. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ as you said, it's a popularity contest.
But yeah, I'd say the pros do outweigh the cons, and there's always next year to iron out any of the kinks ^^
I think the Breaak down was
Hololive 10 awards
vshojo 5 awards
NIJISANJI 3 awards
PhaseConnect 1 awards
indie 6 awards
7:21 Evan scared me for a second when he said he wasn’t a Vtuber but I’m glad he said he was just kidding.
Fefe's great but the idea she should've beat out the original lewdtuber and an active porn-star for lewdtuber of the year is kinda silly, my dude. Projekt Melody earned that one several times over.
for the first ever VTUBER event it was just AMAZING. I just loved the whole event man. Everyone including FILIAN did an awesome job

Yeah award shows are mostly popularity contests. Just look at the game and anime awards, it’s mostly just the mainstream games/anime that gets awards.
I loved that it was so long and they could do everything they wanted with no time limits. It could have gone longer.
Cooksie is an eldritch god with a thousand eyes.
My issue was not with any of the things you had to say. I guess a small one is something you did mention, which is the popularity context aspect of it, but as you said, it's not something that's really solvable. That said, pretty much everyone who won deserved it, any outliers were just technicalities. No, the issue I had was the clips. Some of the clips were just not very representative of the streamers or their best clips.
Some standouts were some of the FPS nominee clips, Projekt Melodies clips and Kaela clips. Well, pretty much any of the Hololive clips didn't feel very well found. I don't watch much Hololive as a new fan of Vtubing, so I was looking forward to some great clips, Pekora's clips weren't great, when I imagine there are a million amazing clips out there, same with Kaela (I think that's her name, the minecraft winner) which had some really small clips that really didn't do much.
Projekt Melody had a few clips that didn't really represent her as a "lewdtuber" and some of the "funny vtuber" clips weren't that funny, when the vtubers on display are INCREDIBLY funny. Maybe it was a licensing issue or something else, especially Hololive, but I feel that TH-cam clips should be fair game.
There were many more that were lacking, I just don't remember all of them, but to end on a positive, I'll talk about the Vtuber midroll clips. Those were incredible. Hearing the artist/parent vtubers talking about their craft and stuff was engrossing and really cool. Hearing vtubers opinions on nominees was also something refreshing and an incredible aspect of the show.
I'd give the Game Awards are 5/5 even with it's flaws.
Most of the people I voted for didn’t win. I wish Zentreya and Trickywi had won stuff
Same, It's a damn shame Zen didn't get at least one.
Bro ,I totally forgot about the annoying Orange.... But you are totally right!💜👍🔥
About Kobo though, I saw some comments from the Indonesian say that right after she won the most chaotic vtubers awards, Pippa's fans started being angry on Twitter. Is that true and what do you think about this?
i agree with pippa's fans. It was almost absurd that Kobo would be Pippa or Shondo
Yeah the rabbit should have won she is chaos incarnate
Kobo has her moments but she's pretty tame with her actions. Me personally, she wasn't the *best* for this award. Not every award show is completely perfect. And this is one of them.
Still glad for Kobo though 🌧️💙
i have screenshots of Kobo fans admitting that they used multiple accounts for voting and that they "continued to vote until she won" That is an exact quote replying to pippa fans.
True bro, it's pretty fun watching them meltdown and being all salty.
It was great! Apparently youtube unsubscribed me from you, corrected this
Yeah I think the skits/sponsored moments should be shorter and I hope they choose the clips of the nominess better and be better edited because some were just bad or very dated and the images for the nominess they should just get some of the official artwork instead of some random stuff on the google(that is how it felt).
About the wins yes it is a popularity contest but if the content was good enough I dont mind and the nominess are showed so they do get some eyes(if the clips show why they are in that category). I think the only categories that I would like to see diferent winners is best music I would give to suisei and League of their own I would give to Marine that are on a roll this year but fuwamoco is fine too I really like how in character both of those are.
It's kind of telling when the event organizers don't completely understand the medium. All the highlight clips and other prerecords could've been in a separate video/stream if they aren't live. We're already online, we don't need to sit through extra filler. Just like The Game Awards with all the trailers.
Also in the space of vtubers, Suika Game is def the game of the year. It had a low barrier of entry and even jumped to out of region flesh tubers before an official translation was released.
My guess is it's a matter of time and money why they ended up with these clips and the way it was edited.
If they get more high value sponsors (and hopefully don't get more time dedicated to them) then it would be perfect.
The solution of an award show not turning into a popularity contest is by having a jury panel, just like the Game Awards has. But as it obviously involves many more people to do that way. For example the mentioned Game Awards has more than 100 person in the jury from various gaming related media, which VTubing don't really have. And I'm not sure, how a jury panel could be selected, to be enough member to remove the individual biases, and not have group biases. But that is a theoretical safeguard against popularity contests, especially when the jury's votes gets merged with the votes, like the Game Awards does.
It would also have to force the community to select or at least respect the people who gets to be labeled as "Vtuber connoisseur" or something like that which sounds a bit weird jaja.
@cepitosa9832 yeah, in practice it end up breeding significantly more toxicity that the general voting process, imo. At least this way you minimize the number of people who are convinced the person they voted for who lost was objectively the most deserving. A panel system just mean even more people vote for someone who doesn't win, which means even more people are furious that their objectively correct 100% perfect choice didn't win.
@@uselessprotaganist7444 Well, you can't have your cake and eat it, either it is a popularity vote, or you piss of more people.
And even the nomination selection is gonna piss off people, for example, I disagree why Henya the Genius got nominated as a "Rising Star". I'm not surprised that she won it, but the nomination seems out of place. Also not sure why Phase Connect was nominated as a "Rising Vtuber Org", but that makes a little bit more sense, but they are still well established, even if small vtuber agency.
Only award that felt out of place to me was the "Rising Org" one, simply because while Phase Connect is chock full of great talents, they've got, what, four gens? Five? Little too established for my taste to be "Rising."
Y'all weren't ready for turtle neck Evanit0
Oh my lord. @8.00 When you said we were about to lose her, I thought you were saying she had a terminal illness or something, not that she's graduating. 😵
The Vtuber awards were awesome. Just had wished they do some things to make it better next year.
1. Make it shorter. 5 hours was just way too long and by the 3.5 hour mark I just wanted to know who they winners were so it could end.
2. Have slightly shorter sponsored segments. Having a sponsor take up so much time extends the time of the award show excessively. I personally do not mind watching sponsors as it is what funds the high production, but to have the Mario Kart rip off sponsorship lasting so long got me irritated at some point.
3. Have different highlight clips for when they are showing the nominees and when the winner is displayed. To see the highlight clip being repeated is pretty boring as you literally saw the same thing about 1 minute ago. It also makes the show seem a little lacklustre which discredits the effort put into putting on the award show. they could have asked the Nominees and Winners themselves if they want to make their own highlight. I believe they would be more than happy to considering the free advertisement they would have. Or at least hire a good clipper who has knowledge of that Vtuber to arrange and edit these to make it look more better and less bland.
4. Some of the clips of the nominees had no relation to what the award was presenting which makes it weird to watch due to the disassociation between what is being shown and the award itself.
Overall, I would like to say that this award show was a big W and the step in the right direction for future Vtuber awards. The show was overall entertaining. I hope for a greater and better Vtuber Award show next year. Considering the amount of people watching, I hope that Filian and Mythic Talent can arrange better sponsorships with shorter sponsored requirements.
I generally agree here, except I think the length was fine. This is the 1st award show I've ever watched, though, so I have no frame of reference for how long I would feel is too long. I also liked the Oh Baby Cart parts because they mostly just felt like a normal gaming stream
@@brinnshea True, I might have felt biased knowing that it was a sponsorship. I bet that if I had not known I might have enjoyed it or maybe it felt off for me as it felt weird having a competition in-between the award presentation. With regards to the award show being too long, that might be due to my attention span, so it will differ per person.
Roblox bloxy awards are just hit or miss for us in the Roblox community
In an FSP Pentathlon who would win, Selen, or Botan? 🤔
Don't get me wrong Selen is good but Botan is better .

given Botan past life tho
For a first time event, I think it did very well. Filian did a good job. I look forward to seeing what comes next year when they take everything they learned this year and improve the show. I too would like to see more small vtuber awards even if it makes the show longer.
Vehdhal - ohh noooo 🤣 OK I'm joking, but it's.... Pedal - Medal - Vedal And I was so happy he won 🙌
I just hope Hololive participates next year...
Everyone was there (Vshoujo, Phase, Niji, V-dere, Idol, even the Korean Vtubers) and holo didn't send any members to represent them 😢
Also, does anyone know why Henya wasn't there?
FuwaMoco was there to receive their Award
@@sethmatthewamurao2085 They weren't. They were streaming on their channel at the time.
Henya was hospitalized because of stomach pain, I think
ngl, i highly doubt they got contacted / informed to even clear a shedule for the talents to be there.
also i feel like the whole thing cathered heavily to twitch side rather then the utube streamers side.
dont get me wrong, i get it, its indie organised/funded, its first one. so its a learning experience. but i do feel like it should have been a english exclusive one and / or maybe with a utube/twitch seperated categories.
cause im sure if japan was even remotely aware of it. that the jp holo talents would have squashed any competition.
I was also missing the annoying orange on that video. Hah.
I think you could justify any of the four nominees to be Vtuber of the year. The thing with Ironmouse is that I think she had a lot more achievements in 2022 than in 2023. Same actually goes for Pekora too, but her being in the top watched female streamer list all the time this year would definitely justify her being voted. Shylily I see more as someone who achieved a lot this year. If I go by most clips I watched this year, clips of her would definitely score first place out of the four nominees. Salome is someone that went completely through the roof at the beginning of the year. I still remember thinking "Wow she only started some weeks ago and has already more subscribers than any other Nijisanji member, what the hell". Unfortunately after February I basically never heard of her again. I actually had to manually search for her just to see if she's still going strong. But if we go by growth this year she would definitely be reasonable to vote for too.
To be honest, I would probably see Neuro-sama as Vtuber of the Year. When I think back to 2023 later, I will not think of it as the greatest year of Ironmouse, Shylily or Pekora, but I will think of it as the year where an AI Vtuber managed to become more fun to watch than any real human, got its own model rigged, got its memory expanded, generated the most funny clips I've seen all year.
But alas, maybe an AI is not allowed to participate. Out of the 4 nominees I decided to vote for Shylily myself, but I as said any of those four could be justified.
PS: If you don't want awards to be a popularity contest, you simply can't go by most votes. It would need to be put somehow in relation of their popularity. Or you have a rating system where people give a rating to each nominee with an "I don't know her well enough" option. This reduces influence of people who actually only really know one of the nominees and naturally vote for them.
It being an award show, I didn't see an actual award though 😂 was it the bell?
Baldursgate is obviously a better game as suika game, but the categorie is "streamed game", baldursgate is not that good for streaming because i want to play it myself without getting spoilers. I only watched streamers playing act1, any further and i tuned out of the stream.
I didn't have many problems with it, though I didn't like Mori winning music vtuber of the year instead of Suisei. I also found it odd that the Takodachis weren't even up for consideration with most dedicated fanbase. The Chumbuds will ditch Gura long before the Takos ditch Ina. There should have also been a category for most enjoyable cringe for some extra variety and something different.
im gonna say tom from toonami everything we can say about any vtuber today tom has achieved it in some way limited by technology. before firing back at me look at the history of toonami and ask yourself is this similar to my oshi?
Ironmouse or Shylily was the two people I was voting for without knowing the nominees for vtuber of the year because both were a big part of introducing me to the twitch side of vtubing the other two I was voting for on the youtube side were gawr gura and fuwamoco fuwamoco didn't introduce me to the youtube side of vtubing but they are so good and are very hard workers and gawr gura introduced me to vtubing as a whole so I have a bit of a biased there and I can agree with the most dedicated fan base because I've been watching gura since she had 1 mil subs
Because its the first awards show I accept iron Mouse winning vtuber of the year, but I believe shylily should have won. Chibi should have won chaotic and Yuikai should of had a few nominations.
There's a reason for the popularity of some of the bigger names in the industry, discrediting them because they are part of a larger organization is insane.
There's a few categories which I didn't agree with (Most Chaotic VTuber, Music VTuber, and to a lesser degree VTuber of the year), 2 of which should have gone to JP talents in my opinion. (Pippa should have won most Chaotic).
There were a bunch of surprises that contradict the 'being the bigger org means you win', which would indicate people are at least not voting purely based on the organization behind the VTuber (Otherwise Kiara would have won Zatsu, Pekora would have won VTuber of the year).
Tricky really should have won Most Chaotic, if only because nobody else got the cops called on them by neighbors who thought they might be getting murdered.
It was awesome!!
How did I know you were going to say annoying orange
If people don't want a popularity contest or that a light is put on smaller creators don't watch an award ceremony and host an event yourself. Awards are given to the best and are not participation trophies. It's also funny that most of the people complaining about that either aren't even vtubers or have a negligible audience and would never even be considered for a contest like this. Some of these people radiate jealousy.
I was waiting for the flashbang tho so 9/10 for lack of flashbangs
Of course the popular streamers win. They are community voted. Part of excellence is the popularity itself. Being mad about that in an award show is just dumb. Instead of people complain about that, help your streamer become more popular with the misguided energy.
It was successful as a western vtuber award show. And yeah, the clip editing could have been done better.
I don't think Zentreya or Melody had any business being nominated for "best tech" but it was likely only because they're popular.
Zentreya uses what's essentially your everyday VRChat setup, almost every VRChat streamer (and avid VRChat player) has, nearly piece for piece, the setup Zentreya has.
Melody has a bit higher-tier setup, but essentially she doesn't even know how it works outside of turning it on everything was produced for her for the longest time and it's why she's almost never talks about he setup to begin with compared to Zentreya who is at least experienced with hers.
Vedal and Codemiko on the otherhand are both experienced coders who have created far more than just a moving character on a screen and while I'm glad Vedal won, I think some of the categories need far better vetting, potentially by more knowledgeable members of the community especially since Iron Vertex was nominated despite being an entire company vs a few solo artists.
They need to work out vetting everything... this just went 100% on nominations and votes. Next year they will have a problem if people decide to try to hack the system and get Vtubers nominated in every category even where they don't belong at all.
Really good show and happy for those that won but kinda sucks FeFe didn't win at least Mousey won big.
That 20 minute mobile game ad was quite annoying
Chumbuds winning the award for "Most Dedicated Fanbase" doesn't sit right with me because like it or not, the ones who really hate on Gura and trash on her are still Chumbuds. So it's kind of 50/50 since some among them are VERY dedicated and some..... aren't.
IMO if someone hates on and trashes on a vtuber, then they aren't part of their fanbase. So it's very sad that you still consider them part of the fanbase. When they clearly aren't.
The vtuber awards was pretty dope. You're definitely not wrong about it running a little too long, I was working and lurking, and I was just a couple hours from going home when it ended. Otherwise, very well made
While not everybody I wanted to win did, I didn't disagree with a single choice. My big issue is the clips chosen were almost always horrible and didn't attract people to finding out more about the talents.
Filian was such an amazing host! I was legit chocked.
My only complaint is to the fans and how twitch dominated the nominees was. Also the fact that there was almost 0 JP vtubers nominated and I don't think a single one won. Which I guess isn't a surpriced since it's heavily just the English speaker side (and the twitch viewers who voted and watched. Since Filian streams there and many of the TH-cam streamers didn't even knew about the award show).
Either way I'm hoping that next year they manage to get a JP co-host or translator (for example maybe K-son, Henya, Onigiri actually there's to of Vtubers who speak both languages who could do it). Which also would do a better job to market the show beyond the Twitch bouble to reach an wider audience. Which would benefit the whole community more.
Like how wasnt any Vspo members not nominated for best fps player or gamer of the year?
Because enough of their fanbase didn't nominate them?@@McDudes
@@shaggybaggums yeah or they didn't even know. Like I myself didnk knew about the awards until after the nomenees was already decided.
Yeah, I forget what stream it was in, but if I hadn't seen it mentioned and linked that one time I would've missed the initial nominations entirely.
Once the nominees are decided you at least get them bringing it up in their individual streams.
Maybe next time a selection of Vtubers and Agencies can be contacted a head of time to let people know when and where they can start nominating?
Hopefully then there's at least a chance that a fan of Vtubers would see it somewhere.@@McDudes
@@McDudes Froot was in FPS
I don't really understand how suisei's art being AI generated is bad? they are not selling it, and I feel like using an artist's work would be worse as it wouldn't be properly credited, so how is this morally problematic?
Curious how ironmouse content outclass pekora
Huge Ironmouse fan, many people deserved the award, but only one can deserve it the most. The award show did make me interested in checking out a few others though, really enjoyed the event but yeah try and find some places to cut down on time I think
Filian looked kinda good tho like damn girl
yeah the model movement was kind of garbage but annoying oranges eye and lip tracking
is unmatch even to this day
It was pretty impressive the scuff was funny too
No Lilly Gracie?
Best streamed event should be vsaikyo or holosummer tbh, viewers wise it speaks for itself but voters are mostly EN unfortunately
Oof.. no winners for JP both niji and holo
There are a few things that I would change in the vtuber awards.
First of all a highlight for all who graduated would be a fitting tribute
Second, a lot less games and maybe a few musical talents represented from all platforms (predebut, indie, talent and idol)
(I know this one's a pretty hot topic in the vtuber community) A proper shout out to pre debuts (I've been seeing that divide as of late and I would love to see this show close it)
And yah, cut down the ads a bit.
Pippa was still robbed of most chaotic, F 😭
While I didn't mind Filian as a host I will say her brand of comedy burned me out within the first 2-ish hours.
Does guragawr stream like every 3 months?
i mean i will just cut the BS etc and straight to the point, the problem is the award itself to begin with, the idea, how to choose the nomination and the nominee and ofc how to decide who win, it is a vote, doesnt matter who it is, as long as u can out-vote the other nominee u won, and filian and mythic talent cant do anything about it because well how u gonna decide for vtuber? this is not game award.
the thing is, the problem in this awards is look like not a big deal but actually they are, and this is a big problem for filian and mythic talent that its show how incapable they are doing very "simple" research to begin with, which is lead to the awards is basically nothing but a "circle awards" with a very small reach and with how small their effort for the research which is really important. these problem like:
1. The branding of the awards, its "vtuber awards" with how things are, this should be "filian & mythic talent awards" because they are basically the only one behind this awards, if u think that this is not a big deal, think again.
2. The vtuber history lacking or more like completely skipping hololive specifically holo MYTH the first gen of holoEN is a big mistake, specially when the awards itself is basically the "EN VTUBER AWARDS" but ironically holoMYTH which is the one that start the boom that made the ENVtubing a thing to begin with is missing, funny enough theres nijiEN there and luxiem while holoMYTH is debuting before that starting the boom, but where are they? showing the one who wrote the script clearly dont know or skipping them on purpose.
3. The nomination of the awards which is weird for some like how stream event where how the subathon is in 1 place with actual big event like holofest and vsaikyou? the gamer of the year and fps who is 2 awards that 1 based on general while 1 based on genre? how about racing, sports, horro game? see? and how about a charity? like which charity is "better" or what? how u decide that, all of them are equally good because well they are charity.
4, The duration, yeah we all know this, we get it, they need ads, but the duration is ridiculously long on top of pre show who is already too long, 5 hours for that amount of nomination? yeah it doesnt make sense.
5. The clips, this is ridiculous, the same thing with suisei pic, this is just showin either how low the effort they ACTUALLY put for the research or they actually dont bother at all whether it is right or wrong, because surely they CHECK it before the event started right? there is no excuse for it specially for like suisei pic that is the "brand/ip" of the vtuber itself u know how important it is and clips? if u are a vtuber fans, u know how important clips, because just incase someone forget or didnt know, the MAIN REASON of vtuber boom happen specially for EN is thanks to popular clip like hololive miko infamous "n-word" or how clip of holoMYTH hitting the algorithm making many ppl award of vtuber, especially "EN VTUBERS".
Huh
For me Marine or Cali are my picks for vtuber of the year.
for me its pekora not just off popularity but off activity it isnt fair because ironmouse unfortunately has her condition. its not easy explaining for pekora's case because its like talking someone about your hobbies or what you do and you know that they arent interested which most is understandable because theres a culture and language barrier so ill just rant a little.
pekora streams very regularly not as much as mousey but in the global view she is always working towards a event that are beyond just her own community ones that reach out to vtuber fans in general. half of her active fan base is EN the other half didnt know this was even a thing. going into her streams comments and such you can find a a lot of japanese comments english comments, and here and there you see languages from all other countries. ironmouse has fans around the world for sure and shylily too, but they arent as active as pekora's and they arent just local fans which are usually fans that can understand the speech those are the most active fans for them. pekora may not be able to interact with them often but her work reaches out to all of them and they all show in kind on a scale larger than just the EN scene alone which a heavy majority of shylily and ironmouses fans are. but in truth its not easy to say because some EN vtuber fans dont even know that hololive started in japan or that hololive even has a japanese branch same with nijisanji so it is just a popularity contest at the end.
When u put ironmouse is not active, it just show biased. Ironmouse stream regularly and even played offstream. I don't think that only her fans votes for her but a lot of people in general. The subathon winning the event is prove to that. During that time a lot of vtubers join in and doing stuff with her. This in general give the view of what mouse is. If hololive can win a lot of other stuff and the whole corpo fans vote for pekora, I think she might win it but the peoblem with Holo and Niji is that the strictness of topicon what to stream or games to play is kind of an offsetting. Its good to follow the trend but u will not stand out. You have views but you will not have the impact of pioneers of streaming some games or doing some stuff has. People always remember who among that started it, not the followers. For example, mouse was among the few who start to stream Lethal Company before they become so big to stream them. She does played a lot of unknown/indie games and people watch it and become interest in it. That is for games but there also other things that she done. While Holo always have in house events, Mouse is doing events that be played by many streamer not just in house or big collabs event like apex niji x holo. While the quality might become great and its become friendly competition, this restrict the openness to other viewer outside the community. Unless holo and niji changed the way they do stuff, unless its a very publicly made event, there is no way the general public will know except for the close community that they have about what they have done.
@@daegograndynte2771 i never denied all of that and i also never said mouse was not active i only said that her condition is a rough situation because she cant go out or truly perform everything she wants to. but she does her best and her best is unbelievable more than any of us can ask for. it is a popularity contest at the end and yeah because of the strictness of corpos especially with hololive as the girls have said that due to contracts its hard for them freely collab with the japan side of vtubers as the JP side has their contracts to uphold over collabs. my arguement was only why i believed pekora should win not that mouse didnt deserve it, but also because of the strictness of the corpos and the japanese side not wanting to be part of potential drama i dont think well get an official vtuber awards. official western supported vtuber awards maybe but probably not with the support of the east side.
the amount of pekora's EN fans probably a third of her fan base because of the language and culture barrier. i do feel strongly about this because a decent amount of EN vtuber fans dont even know hololive has a japanese branch and i feel the same for nijisanji, selen is a great gamer all the nominee's were deserving, im not saying pekora is the biggest but she is top watched female streamer overall in the past 2 years, and like kazuha nijisanjis biggest member even though the public media trends usually only shows the EN talents cause english speaking and all and EN news being more recognized by general viewers. kazuha plays a much larger variety of games than selen and he plays them really well competitively in the ones that can be competative. thats just my gripe is all, i knew that the event would be a more EN focused audience so this was just putting my thoughts out there for the lesser known.
The fact that none of the JP vtubers have mentioned them being nominated for this event in any of their streams speaks that this is mostly an EN thing. Also, it feels like Filian was deliberately trying to avoid using any HoloJP images and clips which was weird, especially with the AI image and using Nijisanji clips when she was talking about Hololive during her talk about the history of vtubing.
Filian talked about this on stream today. The company that was handling production didn't know about vtubers. There's quite a bit she caught, but some things were missed. So none of it was intentional.
@@BuckleySmash "Didn't know about vtubers" but how do you explain the video presentation for the history of vtubing coinciding with everything from Hatsune Miku to Kizuna to Mito and Nijisanji but completely missing out Hololive JP? And them using obscure clips to represent HoloJP nominees when the moment you search them up on TH-cam, the first ones to appear are those with millions of views? We can give a pass for the Suisei AI image but everything else was sussy and Filian knows it herself.
@@RejectHumanityReturn2Monke She explained the video as well. In her stream where she was reviewing the event, she noticed that they had Niji clips where there should have been Hololive clips. And she stated that she caught some other issues with the video, but missed that, as most of her time was going towards rehearsals and planning the event. As for the information contained in the video, she said she had specifically contracted another creator (I think she said Depressed Nousagi). So the information was correct, but the video was scuffed. As for the quality of the clips, that seemed to be an issue throughout the whole show. It's one of the biggest criticisms I've seen, and if I had my way, they'd work with the clippers to find the best/biggest clips for the different nominees next year.
Pekora shouldve won voty man, just look at her numbers
Evan. I get it. You're a nijistan. But you can not POSSIBLY be so delusional as to believe that Niji "2% of merch sales" "CEO yacht" "endless graduations" "event cancellations" Sanji ever stood a CHANCE in the popularity contest, especially against the GIANT that was Hololive?
Lmao I'm critical to every company. I've been very critical to niji in the past, but there's a time and place for these things.
I don't mind who won, I just found it funny.
gotta love holostans spewing misinformation and lying to make their mediocre company seem big and popular.
you probably praise yagoo despite him protecting and hiding what mels Manager did to her until it became public.
I think Pekora should have easily won Vtuber of the year award. She had a truly crazy year.
But I also don't understand Mousey appeal at all. I've seen clips, watched collabs and tunes in to her streams. But she just isn't for me I guess. So maybe I can't judge her content "fairly" but even so I don't Care, Pekora had an insane year this year and Hololive was able to support her 110% as well being year of the rabbit and all.
Also what even is so hupe about Mousey subbaton? That's another thing I don't get. Isn't it just that she streams pretty much 24/7 during a week or 2? Or was it a month this year? Either way doesn't matter since that's what Kaela been doing all year.
I can't speak for anyone else's, but Ironmouse's was a charity subathon in support of the Immune Deficiency Foundation.@@McDudes
Playing games with friends win her that award.. how unique
I don't like that it was 100% fan nominated and fan voted. It turns the award of "Best of for 2023" to "Most Simps of 2023"
Which critics or vtuber experts do you trust then?
I see this being a problem next year... people know the system, and will abuse it for nominations and votes even more than they did this year.
@@cucumbermainline I mean, that's not really my thing to figure out. These types of awards are typically done by a panel of journalists and there's plenty of vTuber those out there. Filian (obviously) FalseEyeD (and crew) and Khyo immediately come to mind. There's that vtuber with the black hair and twintails that I can't remember the name of. I was going to say Koe but he would likely be biased.
Still confused why Usada Pekora didn't win, the reason is strong...
1. Pekora has 2 million subscribers
2.vtuber with the highest watch hours in the world
3. Female TH-camr with the highest watch hours in the world
4. offline concert with an audience of 15 thousand people
.... yes, the reason is that the VTuber Awards are only for Circle America
her EN fans either underperformed or significantly lower than Ironmouse. Yagoo said hololive's overseas audience is 30% of their overall audience.
nominations and votes were 100% by viewers.... apparently Usada Pekora fans didn't go vote.
Yes, because they didn't promote it to Asia, they only voiced it in the West, or more precisely, only Fillian's circle.@@AyaWetts
