Misuse of accessible parking permits difficult to prove

It is easy to assume that there may be a problem when it comes to misusing accessible parking permits. But while police say they’re on top of enforcement, advocates want people to think twice when questioning their validity. Mark McAllister reports.

I work somewhere in king st. Back then usually not a lot of people park across my workplace now there’s a condo construction, everyday there’s a pickup truck & cars parking in there all with Accessible Parking permits, most of them are construction workers or engineers.. it’s just sketchy to see a healthy guys carrying tools and have APPs.

Athletic guy leaps out of a porche on Wellington in front of me. In his window is an accessibility permit. Go look in the Annex, the streets are filled with them. There's no way they are all legit. Just rich people with connections, parking for free.

First thing. Give them a ticket even with the accessible parking permits when they are parked illegally. This will help reduce it.

Permits are definitely misused. Check out prime parking locations downtown near entertainment and sporting events. There are likely 1000s of legitimate users out there. But 131,000 permits just in Toronto seems simply incredible. Lots of very high end sports cars have disable permits.
Let's assume 1,000,000 licensed vehicles in Toronto. Highly doubt 15% of Toronto drivers meet the definition of medically disabled.

You don't need drivers who are disabled. All you need is a passenger.

The permits should have a limited lifespan and need an annual attestation by a doctor. If too many of the doctor's attestations are fake, they can no longer attest for anyone. Anyone caught abusing their permit gets banned for five years. That will fix the problem.

Of course it's misused.
I've seen driver's walk away with no passengers.
Drivers fake a limp or other such nonsense.

I don't walk but often can't get a spot by middle aged people carrying bags with no visible disability. In BC doctors hand out permits for a sore shoulder.

This don't make sense I have one but my car technically doesn't apply to it yet you attach it to your vehicle at the ministry so I'd have to take it into different cars and not keep it I'm my car if someone. Takes my car like my kids for example 😮make up your minds it's either attached to our license or our vehicle

It's attached to the person but once the car is parked who knows who were in the car.
