yeah this movie was a trainwreck even watching it theaters back in the day i had no idea what was even happening especially with that terrible ending not making any sense at least in my opinion.
I always enjoy watching older movies as well as mixing it up with newer films. This remake for me, this is a case where I saw this one first and I loved it. Then I saw the other original films and the newer Apes film and over time, this movie has a complicated relationship with me because there are some aspects that I actually like but there's a lot of frustration especially with the script complications and rushed production. Tim Burton is a pretty hit and miss filmmaker but I enjoy most movie than none but sometimes he does have a miss, same with Mark Wahlberg as an actor. I would've been interested in the Schwarzenegger film they had planned or see what Peter Jackson did.
This definitely isn’t a good film, it’s a disappointment for a remake as well. Why is it so damn dark compared to the original too? The original had amazing cinematography and scenery. This didn’t at all. And the callbacks to the original? OMG the “damn dirty human” line as well as the “damn them all to hell!” just came off as forced and desperate. And don’t even get me started on the weird suggestive dance whatever scene that Ari does. It’s soooooo cringe and just WTH. In a better film, *maybe* that scene could’ve worked better but here it just came off as cringe and ugh. LOL I will agree though the suits and makeup is well done.
I was 8 years old when I first saw it on VHS, it was at a friend's house. I love the Planet of the Apes franchise. I used to watch the original movies on T.V. and to my surprise, this reimagining (because Burton doesn't like the word remake) is the worst fucking thing I have ever saw. Yes, to its credits, the make-up effects are great and the cast, mainly the ape characters were perfect. But everything else was trash as hell. The story sinks, the human characters were boring, the action scenes weren't memorable, the acting from the human side was bad, and that ending was just ridiculous. Even compare to the weaker installments like "Beneath" or "Battle," are way better than this remake. Truthfully, this flick killed my love for the series, until Fox decided to bring it back with Rises of the Apes in 2011. What I was surprised was how it didn't even got a sequel, because it did in fact was a hit for the studio, but I guess the negative reception from critics and audiences made the decision for them. Luckily the franchise is at a good place. And I hope we get more of these movies.

This is a legendary movie . All the scenes with the apes are gold . Mark & that chick are awful. Fun movie .
