My parents got the exact same breed from a pet store. The Pet store swore she wasn't from a puppy mill. Turns out the dogs were coming from puppy mills and the employees were lying. My dog has SEVERE health problems because her mother was bred so much.. :/ so sad. We love her and would never give her up but we know now. You can't take that back, the dog is very cute & im happy for you Niki. Please watch out for allergies and hip dysplasia.

I'm really upset too. As soon as Niki said she was going to the pet store to buy the puppy- I knew it was a puppy mill puppy. That puppy's mother is most likely forced to breed over and over and over again. It's a miserable life. It was SO obvious that it was a puppy mill puppy or from a breeder. The shredded paper and water bottle is a dead give away that these are NOT shelter dogs. There is no reason to support this industry. Yes, some pet stores have shelter dogs. Niki's family is taking away a life of a dog at the shelter. Yes, it's their decision. But people need to know the truth.

I think you guys don'to understand how supply and demand works. Because they bought that dog, that means demand is greater, meaning more dogs will be bred at puppy mills and live horrible, painful, lives. If everyone stopped buying from pet stores, the dogs that have already been bred at puppy mills would eventually be transferred to shelters, where they could be adopted, all while ending the supply of puppy mill dogs. So while yes, EVERY dog deserves a home, many dogs live awful lives in puppy mills, or awful lives in shelters, and are eventually put to sleep, because people continue to buy from pet stores.

Puppys/kittens have a huge demand and are never in shelters long . The older ones always get looked over : ( . It would be nice to see some "influencers" doing that instead like you said just getting the smallest most expensive breeds. Adopting not only saves lives but helps keep shelter doors open so they can continue to do good! It will take a lot of patience and time to find those small expensive breeds but they are out there in the shelters.

Like Niki or not people make wrong choices and Niki getting a pup from the puppy mill is definitely one. Pet stores will tell you that 'oh we promise this dog is from a breeder' but what breeder would give their dog to a random family? REPUTABLE breeders will only give their pups to loving homes that they completely trust not randoms who just want a dog because it is 'cute'. TO EVERYONE SAYING ADOPT DONT SHOP: some pet stores do do adoption. where i'm from we have an adoption agency called adopt an angel, and they're typically stray animals taken in, the adoption agency pairs with pet stores in our area so they can get adopted quicker. (i've adopted two animals from them) not all pet stores are supply and demand, some do pair with adoption agencies. also, niki does not have to go into detail about how she got buddy. she has a private life. so stop assuming things about something you don't know everything about. (BUDDY IS SO CUTE GIRL, YOU GO)
So I absolutely agree- some pet stores definitely do adoption. I've seen it myself. But, from the looks of this pet store it was VERY obvious that they were puppy mill puppies/from breeders. Between the shredded paper on the floor of the cage, to the water bottle hung up on the wall, it just screams puppy mill. A real adoption company would not allow that little puppy to be in that type of condition while waiting to be bought. Again, I totally get what you're saying and you are right about some pet stores. But in this case in particular- I can 100% guarantee that this puppy came from a mill or a breeder. And that's just incredibly disheartening.
i totally see what you're saying, but some pet shops are like that. every pet store does their cages differently, so i'm sorry to say you don't know 100%, just like i don't. only niki does. i'm really not being rude, and if i am coming across that way, i truly am sorry. but assuming something is not going to get you anywhere. all we can do is support the decision, and how she got buddy is her personal business, and i honestly don't think any of us are going to know for sure how she got buddy. puppy mills are heart breaking and i truly believe in adopting rather than shopping for animals so please don't get the impression that i do, but just know that no one really knows whether she adopted or shopped for buddy, and all we can do is respect each others opinions on whether she did or not.

The mother dogs will breed over and over and over again and live a miserable life. They give birth to so many puppies, and that takes away business from puppies and dogs in shelters. Listen if u want a dog of that certain breed I get it, it’s hard to find one in a shelter however there are breeders out there who will give you much better/healthier pets that are just as cute. Getting a dog from a pet store is cruel like think about your little pups mother still stuck in awful conditions and having her pups taken away from her without even being weaned! Adopt do not shop unless you want a purebred go get one from a REPUTABLE breeder I can not stress that enough! Agreed! But unfortunately, even a reputable breeder isn't "reputable." You never truly know. But agreed, if you really truly want a purebred (although I don't know why you would, they have a slew of health issues)- then go to a breeder you can trust.

As a person who feels passionately about ending puppy mills, I am so with you sister and yes like you said, purebreds do have health issues however some may like a specific temperament? I would suggest to anyone who wants a purebred, go to a unneutered dog show, the owners are extremely loving and contact the club of whichever breed you would like. I personally just purchased my own purebred papillon. Though I did not adopt, i wanted to see if i could give a dog the best life possible aka raise her well and if not, i would give her back to the breeder because i know how loving her original owner would be to her. However, that is not the case because i have raised a lovely little papillon and knowing i can raise a dog well, i plan on adopting a terrier mix named Ruby in 3 months time when she fully recovers.
It's interesting to read these comments. I know everyone is respectively informing her about what puppies go through to get to the pet stores, and I'm sure she nor her mom didn't mean any harm in adopting him...but I honestly had no clue myself. You guys probably watch her more than I do and I'm positive y'all know she doesn't mean harm. I'm sure she'll make a video soon regarding these comments which is the best thing to do. I adopted my dog from a shelter. But when you see them at a pet store, you think nothing of it and assume they are taken care of. I rarely even comment but just needed to give me 2 cents because you learn something new everyday. Some people need to find breeders for certain hypoallergenic breeds due to severe allergies. That’s what I had to do. Hypoallergenic dogs are hard to come by at rescue places. They usually get reserved right away even if they are available
Hey Niki! If you want the dog to gravitate towards you, you’ll have to be the one to feed him, that’s how I got my husky to like me more than he does my sister! Also try to have him sleep in your room, it helps a lot!

dogs from pet stores generally come from puppy mills where the conditions there are horrible. niki is indirectly supporting puppy mills by purchasing a dog from a pet store. tho the dogs from shelters might not be as 'cute' looks don't really matter its their personality. I'm not hating on niki, i'm happy for you that your ready to welcome a dog into your home, but please keep in mind that your supporting mother dogs who live in horrible conditions and where multiple puppies die from the harsh conditions

Like Niki or not people make wrong choices and Niki getting a pup from the puppy mill is definitely one. Pet stores will tell you that 'oh we promise this dog is from a breeder' but what breeder would give their dog to a random family? REPUTABLE breeders will only give their pups to loving homes that they completely trust not randoms who just want a dog because it is 'cute'. For all the people in the comments saying that pet stores are fine and 'that dog needs a home anyway', please, pull your head in.

TO EVERYONE SAYING ADOPT DONT SHOP: some pet stores do do adoption. where i'm from we have an adoption agency called adopt an angel, and they're typically stray animals taken in, the adoption agency pairs with pet stores in our area so they can get adopted quicker. (i've adopted two animals from them) not all pet stores are supply and demand, some do pair with adoption agencies. also, niki does not have to go into detail about how she got buddy. she has a private life. so stop assuming things about something you don't know everything about. (BUDDY IS SO CUTE GIRL, YOU GO)
So I absolutely agree- some pet stores definitely do adoption. I've seen it myself. But, from the looks of this pet store it was VERY obvious that they were puppy mill puppies/from breeders. Between the shredded paper on the floor of the cage, to the water bottle hung up on the wall, it just screams puppy mill. A real adoption company would not allow that little puppy to be in that type of condition while waiting to be bought. Again, I totally get what you're saying and you are right about some pet stores. But in this case in particular- I can 100% guarantee that this puppy came from a mill or a breeder. And that's just incredibly disheartening.
i totally see what you're saying, but some pet shops are like that. every pet store does their cages differently, so i'm sorry to say you don't know 100%, just like i don't. only niki does. i'm really not being rude, and if i am coming across that way, i truly am sorry. but assuming something is not going to get you anywhere. all we can do is support the decision, and how she got buddy is her personal business, and i honestly don't think any of us are going to know for sure how she got buddy. puppy mills are heart breaking and i truly believe in adopting rather than shopping for animals so please don't get the impression that i do, but just know that no one really knows whether she adopted or shopped for buddy, and all we can do is respect each others opinions on whether she did or not.
But why didn't she mention that it seems that she bought the dog from a pet store, shelters don't leave animals at pet stores for days. But on the other hand it does seem that it may be a shelter puppy just because there's an adult dog in that store to and you don't see that.

The cruelty that goes into the industry is so heartbreaking. There are SO so many puppies and senior dogs that are awaiting for their forever homes and make great companions. I can confidently say this since I am a proud rescue mommy of 2 cats and 2 dogs (yes, they all get along).

The mother dogs will breed over and over and over again and live a miserable life. They give birth to so many puppies, and that takes away business from puppies and dogs in shelters. There's no excuse to be buying from a pet store. It's a really sad sad thing. I'm glad you can be educated here on the difference! :)

Listen if u want a dog of that certain breed I get it, it’s hard to find one in a shelter however there are breeders out there who will give you much better/healthier pets that are just as cute. Getting a dog from a pet store is cruel like think about your little pups mother still stuck in awful conditions and having her pups taken away from her without even being weaned! Adopt do not shop unless you want a purebred go get one from a REPUTABLE breeder I can not stress that enough! Niki this isn’t hate but I definitely feel like you and your mum could have done a better job at researching. Some people in the comments are saying that all dogs deserve a home and they are right but by your choice of how you spend your money, you are contributing to the cruelty that female dogs are put through in puppy mills. Agreed! But unfortunately, even a reputable breeder isn't "reputable." You never truly know. But agreed, if you really truly want a purebred (although I don't know why you would, they have a slew of health issues)- then go to a breeder you can trust.

As a person who feels passionately about ending puppy mills, I am so with you sister and yes like you said, purebreds do have health issues however some may like a specific temperament? I would suggest to anyone who wants a purebred, go to a unneutered dog show, the owners are extremely loving and contact the club of whichever breed you would like. I personally just purchased my own purebred papillon. Though I did not adopt, i wanted to see if i could give a dog the best life possible aka raise her well and if not, i would give her back to the breeder because i know how loving her original owner would be to her. However, that is not the case because i have raised a lovely little papillon and knowing i can raise a dog well, i plan on adopting a terrier mix named Ruby in 3 months time when she fully recovers.

It's interesting to read these comments. I know everyone is respectively informing her about what puppies go through to get to the pet stores, and I'm sure she nor her mom didn't mean any harm in adopting him...but I honestly had no clue myself. You guys probably watch her more than I do and I'm positive y'all know she doesn't mean harm. I'm sure she'll make a video soon regarding these comments which is the best thing to do. I adopted my dog from a shelter. But when you see them at a pet store, you think nothing of it and assume they are taken care of. I rarely even comment but just needed to give me 2 cents because you learn something new everyday. I'm glad there are people on here telling her and people like myself what really goes on behind closed doors so that we no longer make inhumane mistakes in the future regarding these poor animals at pet stores. You learn and you grow. And this is something I definetley learned from just by the comments, and my later research on it, so I appreciate that.

Some people need to find breeders for certain hypoallergenic breeds due to severe allergies. That’s what I had to do. Hypoallergenic dogs are hard to come by at rescue places. They usually get reserved right away even if they are available
