  • Dr. Lera talks about lung tumors with Bodie, a nine-year-old Lab.
Lung tumors are relatively rare in dogs, accounting for only 1% of all cancers diagnosed. The average age at diagnosis is 10 years with no sex or breed predilection. Metastatic cancer to the lungs is much more common than primary lung cancer. Lung tumors have moderate to high potential for metastasis (spreading). Metastasis usually affects the lung lobes, lymph nodes, pleura (lining of the chest cavity), bones and brain.

This was helpful thank you. My old girlie has been diagnosed with a primary lung tumor (4cm x 4cm x 3cm) and she had the same symptoms, at first a light hacking cough, then the gagging. I had her back and forth to the vets 6 times since February but she was finally diagnosed on Friday. She is 13 so I dont know if surgery is the way to go. She is a happy and fairly active girl, but the risks concern me, and there is no way I think I could afford it, the $4000 for Friday was all the money I had :( She is my whole world and we have the best bond. I hope hers is slow growing to give us plenty more time together. I cant imagine life without her :(

You had to pay $4000 for her to be diagnosed???? I paid $155 for xray.....$150 before that for office visit and medicine to see if she responded to it. I don't know yet what surgery would be.

@@loricampbell1164 they had to do lung biopsy, xrays, etc the gagging was stomach related, so they had to inspect that area as well as she had a tummy full of grass they had to remove, and some polyps they biopsied as well, plus overnight stay. It all added up.

@@krustie22 so her coughing was not due to the tumor? So I am wondering now the real reason my dog is coughing. I just assumed it was the tumor.

Our dog just started gagging and coughing we thought it was just a hard time eating food since she has less teeth. I took her in and x-rays were done she has 2 lung tumors what can we do to help them eat if they are gagging. I've had luck with adding water warm one to her food.

Very formative, my 10-year-old chocolate lab having exact same symptoms and was diagnosed with a softball size tumor in her lung, not sure what’s next?

I am trying herbal remedies for my dog with a lung tumor. She is coughing and gagging. I give her turmeric paste and Essiac powder and macha powder. I also give her mullien in her food for the cough. Any better remedies to recommend?

Google Artemisinin and dog cancer, you’ll be amazed. I had my 80 lb Doberman on 300 mg per day, increased to 500-600 mg when lung mass was discovered.

My Starla passed away from her lung cancer December of 2021. I loved her with all my heart. My dog Briar grieved terribly over her loss for almost a year. She would sit in her spot on the couch and cry.
