- Kicking off this one with 4 keen young men & two dogs with me in the truck to try to catch a pig. Then hitting the beautiful Able Tasman National Park coast line to do a spot of slow jig fishing winter fishing. Back at the homestead cranking up the old warehouse smoker to hot smoke some blue cod using one of my own recipes with fresh chili, honey, maple syrup & salt.

new favourite youtuber hands down, the sort of stuff I can binge watch and never get bored. learnt heaps already
Much appreciated clay thanks for sharing all the best clay an awesome video. Thanks again Colin 🤠🙏🤩😘🎣🐗👨🍳☕️☕️
The banded wrasse is one of the most commen fish seen with a snorkel on, when I go diving they are everywhere!
Couple of good keepers there clay 😉
Ahhhh smoked fish bloody brilliant
Legend Clay.
Muy buena pasca, gracias por el video.
Loved Kaiteri beach. And ate couta back in the day. Nice memories 😊
Nice to see Julie again.
“Us kiwi men are bigger” hahahaha
Another brilliant vlog clay look forward to the uploads love the young bucks been taught in the hunting me and wife were laughing at poor po acting as a pig lol classic
The fish is a kelpie. Heaps down here in the south. Mongrels to fillet due to scales but filleted have same texture flesh and fillet as a blue cod. And very good eating. Underrated fish
Poor ole PO, is definitely a damned LEGEND for volunteering to be the "Guinea Pig". Sorry for the piss poor pun, Clay you are the REAL LEGEND for carrying these lads hunting and planting a very Addictive and Pure sport of hunting into these kid's veins. Priceless. God Bless you and all of your endeavors.
Lucky bugga, always has hot birds on this channel.
I dig you’re smoking method , doesn’t take near the wood a barrel style smoker needs😎🤘🏼
I think she likes you for the fresh cooked free meals Clay. You’re going to be a busy man. You’ve set the bar high with maple syrup flavoured smoked blue cod.
Lol. Cheers bro
Keep those kudas bro. Definitely my favorite bait
Branded wrase I'm pretty sure or striped wrasse
The fish looks like a striped crasse sir
Nice 😊 🤠🤙🤙🤙👍💪👌
Hay brother another great vid , just got to wanted add .. biff that iodised salt out mate ! Not good at all. Celtic salt is best for your health 💯❤️ little bit of research you will see I’m not just being a Karen 😁 🤙🏻
we went for a hunt on sunday and caught 6 little pigs and relised 4 of them
and a masive sow
Nice going
Your new Squeeze seems like a nice lady 😉
Come South africa😅b
Decent mixed bag fishing mate do you not harvest the goat?the dinner looked delicious mate 👍🏻🏴
Normally, we would take the goat, but only if we can handle it without the dogs, seeing as it sends them the wrong message as pig is the target species.
@@ClayTallStories never looked at it that way totally understand mate
purple wrasse
I don't know much about pig hunting (except what I've learnt in your vids). But my question is: Did/could you take the goat? I've had curried goat & it's good.
He doesn’t bother with it it’s too tough.
Has to be cooked in vinegar for hourssss 😅
Good question. The main reason is handling goat around the dogs after they have caught it just reaffirms its OK for them to catch it. Having said that I am guilty of taking deer meat out that Bigsy has dogged. Lol
You are right and that being a Nanny (from what I could see) would be a great eater also good in Pakeha cuisine I do like a roasted goat leg :) Though Clay is also right he doesn't want to turn the dogs into goat hunters so leaves it behind.
@@ClayTallStoriesOkay. That makes sense.
Banded wrass. Not even good for bait.
Is that the one I thought was a rock cod?
There are no satelites bro
All coms are land based
Good info
That's a wrasse, there are a lot of differnent similar species and they are all good to eat
Lol po is one very patient dog
You can tell she's used to being the practice pig😂
Poor lass I hated seeing her being thrown around 😢😂
What a stupid thing to do to a old dog.🤦♂️
@@J67844 why the dog wasn't hurt
@@J67844. She doesn’t mind, if she was fighting it she might get hurt but for her it is just more love.
You can tell that doggie knew the drill for that tutorial lol
That fish is called a Banded Wrasse
Hey Clay unknown fish is what we in the deep south call a kelpie which is a banded wrasse or Notolabrus fucicola. Especially like them smoked up, bit boney but also tasty. Cheers
Good info
yoe are a good man Sir !
Great adventure.Trying to get myself back in shape for fishing and hunting and hope to get to the point of trying out a kayak even.
Good evening mate was just having a cuppa an saw you'd uploaded. Good end to the day..bloody goats 😂 Good dog tucker and not a bad feed either..Definitely looked like a cod but I've no idea what variety it was, the baracooda brought back childhood memories, and lastly top class meal bro
Great video clay, I alway appreciatte being able to watch and enjoy your videos.
Keep up the good work👍🏻
I love blue cod fish and chips❤
I think only guessing its the banded wrass
Banded wrasse taste worse than spottys😂😂
14:50 banded wrasse mate
That fish is a wrasse I don't eat them , most people chuck em back as they aren't supposed to taste nice with a lot of bones.
Ahh cheers Jase.
All good brother I caught a horned pig other night to and you know how many goats old wick has run passed for me just to catch that one .
There are plenty where you hunt. I remember Pace catching one when I was hunting with you up there in the North Island

👍
what did you do with the goat. did you just let it go to waste?
We never handle goats dead or alive around out pig dogs. It sends the wrong message to what the target species is. Old Billy goats taste like piss and are great for pig traps and thats where it ended up eventually
Banded wrasse, they are OK to eat but to be fair if your catching blue cod I'd put the wrasse back
Love how tolerant Po is!!
one silly question, why did you leave the first blue code
What's a blue code?
@@ClayTallStories sorry, my bad, i know no fishes, i just learn from you. I mean to say 'Blue cod'
the reason why i ask is because i see a lot of west american youtubers post flyfishing as their hobby. they catch it, then they leave it, they again catch and leave, and again and again, I can't quite understand what fun is it? If I knew fishing I would do that only for food.
Top stuff bro. 👍
No offence clay but i would have thrown those noisy reels overboard if it was my boat. Yes rachets have their place for unmanned rods. You scored with the magical weather. Barracuda here in the tropics is full of ciguatera poisoning🍺🍺
That meal looked really tasty. We keep and cook a lot of the fish frames, especially the fish with knobby backbones
That was a barracouta, different to barracuda found in more tropical areas
👍👍👍
Do you catch much snapper down there at this time of the year
Nup. Summer time we do
Plenty of goats in that area
Not any more. Zac Rayward shot 13. I am pleased about that.
The young pork carriers... way to go clay.. clever alright, ill have to get me some of those 😂
no goat curry today ?
We try not to handle goat around the dogs. It sends the wrong message for the target species
Yes banded wrase there are a lot of species in that family sometimes get a luner tail whish is red a fish and it's got a round color tail
