a full-time travel family. Today we are in the capital of #cambodia called Phnom Phen. When we visited Thailand a little time ago, we made a vlog on life of muslims in Thailand and by popular demand, we will make another vlog but today in CAMBODIA!
Islam is the religion of a majority of the Cham and Malay minorities in Cambodia. According to Po Dharma, there were 150,000 to 200,000 Muslims in Cambodia as late as 1975. Persecution under the Khmer Rouge eroded their numbers, however, and by the late 1980s they probably had not regained their former strength. In 2009, the Pew Research Center estimated that 1.6% of the population, or 236,000 people were Muslims.

You should read about the history of Cham people, descendants of the Champa Kingdom. Ethnic Cham and Malay have lived in Cambodia for centuries and after independence from France, have been collectively referred to as Khmer Islam. There's even a province called Kampong Cham which translates to Port of Cham. Suggested readings: Malay and Cham Relations with the Kingdom of Cambodia During and After the French Protectorate Period by Mohamad Zain Bin Musa and Cambodia Doesn't Have a Problem by Sles Nazy.
I went on a vacation to cambodia. Alhamdulillah i took my shahada there. I was a born to a cambodian family in America.

Don’t live in darkness of ignorance. Keep your eyes open. Muslims are living peace in Buddhist country because they are in minority. Once their people increase they will show up their real Islamic face. Don’t forget those Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and why the county became desperate to expel the Muslims from the country.

Cambodian never had hard time with Muslim like the first lady said. We live peacefully together, Muslim can do whatever they want just like us, we just have different religion but we don’t live separately
I don't think she's Cambodian because: 1) She seemed a bit thrown off when she was referred to as a Cambodian and mouthed "Cambodia" at 3:40. 2) She doesn't speak English with a Cambodian accent like the second woman who was interviewed. 3) She can't go into specifics as to why she feels Muslims are discriminated against in Cambodia. 4) She clearly doesn't know the history of ethnic Cham and Malay who have lived in Cambodia for centuries and are followers of the Islam religion, who have been referred to as Khmer Islam since independence from France. Also, they have always enjoyed the same rights as Khmers before Cambodia became a French protectorate and after independence. It sounds like she moved to Cambodia not too long ago, can't adjust and so looking to leave like she said at 4:20. Hopefully she is able to immigrate to another country where she feels more at ease with herself.

Actually they are not from Cambodia but descendent of Malay Muslim Champa people from Champa kingdom in central & southern Vietnam after they lost their war with Vietnamese

Herer, We live all in peace with love without any racial or religioin decrimination. In few years ago, We felt a bit strange to see people in black skin but not now. All are being loved. We call Cambodian-Muslim people as Khmer-Muslim (Khmer - E - slam).

As a Cambodian myself, I was very surprise to learn that in the early 17th century we even have a Muslim king (Ramathipadi) also known as Sultan Ibrahim. And before becoming a Buddhist country we were follower of Hindu. So we are a very open society when it comes to religion.
Wow.. that's very nice to hear....in my home town most of us were Buddhistt earlier...we live in bodh gaya...and it's our ancestralll home...but we became muslims...but still we love our cherished mahabodhi temple....i saw so many Cambodian Buddhist in my home town...felt so good to meet them❤🎉

Ramathipadi I converted to Islam because he had the support of the Malay community who helped bring him to power as he was not the immediate heir to the throne. It was during his reign that Cambodia nearly went to war with the Dutch who were in Cambodia to trade. The Dutch were walking around like they owned Cambodia and Ramathipadi I wasn't having any of it. A massacre followed targeting Dutch owned ships and Dutch workers, but ultimately the Dutch decided not to pursue a full fledge war with Cambodia due to uncertainty of a victory.

@@zulrasdibakar662 i am khmer muslim but half of my blood that was a part of my great grandfather is Javanese, Indonesia. Immigrated long long time ago to Cambodia.
@@zulrasdibakar662 Why are you grouping Cham Malay together when they're two separate ethnic groups who have lived in Cambodia for centuries? Cambodia has a very long history with Malays. It's said that Malays assisted Jayavarman II in his campaign to unite Cambodia which started the era known as Angkorian period. There are three major groups who follow Islam in Cambodia: Chams, descendants of Champa Kingdom, Malays (Chvea) and Cham Jahed who belong to the Kan Imam San community preserving Cham customs and traditions, but in recent years are converting to Sunni Islam because of influences through donations from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Kuwait. Since independence from France, regardless of ethnicity, those practicing Islam are referred to as Khmer Islam.

Exactly, Cambodians are Buddhists, Buddhism respects and love everything on earth, we don't have conflicts over religion.
Let's say we respect and accept different beliefs. 🇰🇭
The same goes here in Ladakh(india).
We(buddhists and muslims)have been dwelling peacefully since ages...but the problem arises when muslim people from other parts of india(hairy brown people) come to our place ,they always carry that sterotype attitute twords non-muslims and most of them just never get along with our social system.
The problem is not with the religion,but in what kind of social system u r being bought up.
In ladakh....u will hardly able to distinguish btween a muslim and buddhist.we are tribal and mountain people ,with religion as our personel stuff....not like other indians always bragging and fighting over slilly things.
Our problem for now is that the sick indian social system is now hijacking our peaceful society with prejudice narratives and hatred among the buddhists and muslims.
@@sombatkhnor5720 Uhhh...have you been paying attention to what's going on in Myanmar and what the Buddhist monks are doing there? There are extremists found in every religion.
