In my opinion Frida is one of the most inspiring painters that have ever lived. Her Painting show a lot of culture, passion and pain. I feel that Salmal Hayek was the perfect actress for Frida and i have to say this is one of my favorite movies of all time, i am glad i was fortunate enough to see the premier at The Groves's Pacific Theatre in LA. Que viva Frida para siempre!!!
I don't know how well the real Frida was portrayed in the film, but the character shown was astounding. I loved her. I really related to her, not just as an artist but because she was as tough, stubborn and headstrong as any man... and yet her weakness was in a hopeless romance. When I was younger I wasn't afraid to be myself... something happened along the way and I've lost "the courage to be unique". I hope I can find it again, and live like Frida would have. Loved this film.
great role performance..this one and lonely heart killers are my favorite roles from her..here she is warm hearted girl, gentle as butterfly wing but same time hard as steel, woman with big cojones and in lonely hearts movie she is cold heart broken minded psycho..just a great actor..i hope she would get more chanses to do great roles like these
Frida, dir. Julie Taymor. Salma Hayek, Alfred Molina. The film depicts the tragic life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The making of this film could itself be the subject of a documentary. Luis Valdez (La Bamba, 1987) began his Frida project hoping to use Laura San Giacomo as Frida. The project was crushed after protests citing San Giacomo Non-Hispanic ethnicity. Salma Hayek showed an active interest in playing Frida, seeking out Dolores Olmedo Patino. Through Patino Hayek was able to secure access to Kahlo’s paintings. Hayek recruited Alfred Molina to play Diego Rivera. She approached Harvey Weinstein who took over the project. Hayek in a New York Times article, wrote, “Harvey Weinstein had become a wizard of a new wave of cinema that took original content into the mainstream. At the same time it was unimaginable for a Mexican actress to aspire to a place in Hollywood… Knowing what I know now, I wonder if it wasn’t my friendship with them - and Quentin Tarantino and George Clooney - that saved me from being raped… Little did I know that it would become my turn to say no. No to opening the door to him at all hours of the night… He [Weinstein] said the words, “I will kill you, don’t think I can’t.” He would let me finish the film if I agreed to do a sex scene with another woman… I agreed to do the senseless scene… I had a nervous breakdown… Until there is equality in our industry, with men and women having the same value in every aspect of it, our community will continue to be a fertile ground for predators.” The soundtrack features Chavela Vargas’ and Lila Downs’ renderings of the Mexican ranchera genre. Biopic, drama, music, romance. US. AA: Original Score, Makeup. Golden Kamera, Germany: Best International Actress (Salma Hayek). Salma Hayek has been awarded France’s Knight Chevalier by the National Order of the Legion of Honour.

Loved this film.
Headstrong as person you mean. She was a woman not a man lol
Salma is amazing. She's talented, she's gorgeous and she's intelligent. Perfect.
My favourite quote from this movie:
"Why do I need feet, when I have wings to fly" -Frida Kahlo
I'm truly glad she was able to get this movie made. There's a real soul there, not just a by-the-numbers attempt at telling someone's story.
She should have won Oscar.
A truly Oscar worthy performance for sure! 💖
A masterpiece
Frida es una diosa!!! She was just AMAZING!
