  • Ram Dass spent Wednesday, September 8, 2004 visiting his hometown of Boston as the invited guest of Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. This video includes: An informal Q&A conversation with hospital staff and patients, which highlighted the universality of Ram Dass' message as a "strokee" and a wise Soul. Excerpts from Ram Dass' interview with Dr. Eric Leskowitz, Director of the SRH Integrative Medicine Task Force, where he describes his struggle to find spiritual meaning in disability. Highlights from the evening lecture to a sold-out community-wide audience, an inspiring event that was replete with Ram Dass' famliar blend of humor, wisdom and compassion.

I had a stroke at 24 and I'm a year and a half into an intense healing spiritual journey recovering from it. I turn 28 this week and this just randomly came on my TV at 3 am.... something in the universe had me in mind 😭💓
    THANK YOU LITERALLY LIFE CHANGING

I had a similar incident also! My cousin committed suicide, and directly after I saw a number of graphic commercials on TV, which I haven't seen since! So strange, and commercials regarding people who tried to kill themselves in the same way my cousin did! Very strange!!!
Anyhow, God Bless You!! I trust you/we Are being cared for by God Always, even though we cant always feel it. ❤🌈

Before the stroke he was verbally facile to an enviable point. I always thought he was famous and successful because he was so silver tongued. His stroke has humbled me. I can see that without his once silver-tongue he is nevertheless still as spiritually powerful as he always was.

I love your comment! Just one thing which isn’t very important but facile has two meanings and in reference usually to sport a person may be said to be facile at a particular thing however the other meaning which I believe you don’t mean to say is Ignoring the true complexities of an issue or Superficial (and now I am the humbled one as I realise how facile my focus on semantics is! Lol… sorry please indulge a crazy Aussie with a grammar nazi as a mother during childhood who developed a penchant for words so to speak!)

Getting deported in late 2019 I felt very much the same and still kind of do I'm working on it. When Ram said " when you have lost faith you feel nothing and when you a full of faith you feel grace".... That struck me like a lightning and I began to cry... 20 years in what" I still call home (USA) " I see now that maybe this deportation was a strange way of showing me Grace... Ive been miserable beyond comprehension missing my family my friends for over a year and a half the special places I used to go to in CT to meditate that tree I would sit next to on the beach in Milford CT all of it ... Idk what I'm saying anymore but I guess what I wanted to say is this morning I prayed for God to embrace me like I used to feel and after a year and half of feeling nothing this afternoon I heard Ram's words and then it happened...

It was hard for me to listen to "post stroke" Ram Dass at first, but I'm getting hooked the more I do listen. There's no aggregate in what he says anymore...this is it. Now he sounds like my actual mind...much more slow..lol

I too noticed I felt less comfortable when I first listened to him after his stroke. I found an uncomfortability with death and are physical fallibility in this world.. I felt reminded of my own " spiritual loftiness"that I had held about my ability to deal with the entropy of aging exhibited by his stroke. but I was given a lesson after further inspection of my discomfort listening to him after his stroke. Here was a man who I had listened to for years and always felt such great pure love towards and from....and now for some reason I couldn't see through the fears that I was projecting on his condition.. I had to remember to deal with it and not push it down lest it be a wall between me my brother.

Be Here Now, and later, Rams Dass's book on his Beloved Babaji forever changed my inner compass. Yet, still,I have not been able to get out of my own way! Nevertheless, it is such a privilege and a grace to be able to thank Ram Dass while he is still in this body. I sometimes think, what a wonderful cosmic journey we are all on!……but, unfortunately, I don't think it enough.

I'm horrified to see how much change Ram Dass has passed physically since I once attended his lecture in Denver East High School during my college years 1970s-into 80s decade. Yet he hasn't changed spiritually which is encouraging if heart-wrenching. I cant help but wonder if mescaline & LSD contributed to this stroke. But there's my ego getting in the way. I wish him well.
