From the A pillar and back this reminds me of the Benz A Class. But a nice upgrade from the previous model in my opinion. For me the Rio has always given the buyer a lot for the money, more space than for example in the VW Polo and in general more equipment. I think this will be a solid buy for a lot of people. I like it!
I think they've modernised the design well, to keep it modern - and I like the contemporary style for a small hatchback. You often mention AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) in your reviews, Thomas - as this new Rio is meant to be an up to date car, have they fitted AEB to all the model line-up, as standard! Good preview, and interview - that guy could talk well!
Ha! For good or for bad, I wonder when we can predict that AEB will be mandatory on new vehicles - just as has happened to airbags, ABS, ESP, DRL's, Tyre Pressure Monitors...! As I say, for good or for bad!
The previous generation was one of the best value for money propositions on the market. This one looks promising, hopefully the improvements won't raise the price considerably.
Thanks, Thomas. I am a great advocate of the Korean car and watch its uprising with interest.. I had the previous model and loved the shape but it was so 'dead' to drive I had to get rid in the end. I like the conservative design of this model.Less is sometimes more. If it is fun to drive I may buy one!
hi, you should remind people to click on like/don't like buttons. this video has more than 100 thousand views and only 500 likes..... your videos are very well produced and show many details of all cars. Maybe you should remind people to do so as you tell your hight while showing the legroom. Hi Thomas and co., great review as usual. How come you use a handheld mic instead of the one you attach to your shirt? It would let you make better use of your hands like for example when setting the steering wheel. Just my two cents worth. Keep up the good work!
At world premieres, it is INCREDIBLY loud. You just dont hear it because we are using the big handheld microphone which is very directional and isolates my voice against everything else. Compare this one: In the situations with a lot of people, I have to scream and keep talking without stop to keep the surrounding sound at an acceptable level. th-cam.com/video/EB_vDaFr6oM/w-d-xo.html
Hyundai and Kia are the same company, so much of their design is shared between them. There is a reason why the revealing of the new i20 was held on the same week as the Rio.
Thx thomas, really like this car. Would be interesting how good is 1.0 T-GDi compared to old 1.4 petrol. Hopefully everything what Kia officer said about quality and manufacturing was not just prelearned business chitchat. Although 7 years warranty was big step forward for the brand for sure (others catching up to this date more or less and even premium cars understood that longer warranty simply shows bigger self-confidence of manufacturer - the benefit of itself for costumers aside).
Thanks Thomas. Looks good to me! I can totally understand their strategy, not wanting to change too much if things are working well. Never change a winning team :-) The interior looks quite a bit more grown up though, I like it. Especially the steering wheel is quite impressive. And then more space in the back and the option of a modern engine.. what's not to like?
If they do have small capacity turbos they should be standard as in the VW Polo. Those 1.25 and 1.4 NA engines are absolutely hopeless and asthmatic and aren't even good fuel economy wise. And if Kia charges similar prices for these engines than the European competitors with standard small capacity turbos they are crazy because such old tech shouldn't cost that much. The design inside and out is a bit boring now. The Renault Clio looks better in my opinion, the Peugeot 208 has the best interior and the VW Polo has the highest quality interior (the door panels on the Rio here looks cheap).
Absolutely agree, I had a previous gen i20 with the 100PS 1.4 and it was very coarse and inefficient. I have a Leon now with the 1.8 TSI and I'm getting better MPG than with the Hyundai!
Rear lights look like Mark VI Golf (which in my opinion was the pinnacle of the Golf designwise). The interiour reminds me of current Seat Leon - the infotainment screen, the instrument cluster and even the steering wheel. Are you sure this isn't made by VAG? ;-)
Funny enough though Kia's cars always seem to feel better than the Hyundai equivalent. The current Rio for example feels better inside than the new i20 which has a horribly cheap feeling interior full of cheap hard scratchy plastics.
Wael Mkawer I am not sure about that one. I think it depends on which one used the newest platform first. For example, the current 308 feels better than the current C4 but the current Picasso feels better than the 3008 (until the new one gets here next year). I know the Picasso and 3008 are different but the new 3008 will be based on the newer Picasso platform it uses and the new C4 ... I'm not sure if that is on their new platform yet?
Volkswagen was too arrogant to appreciate Peter Schreyer. Today he is chief designer of KIA. Just look and feel how KIA cars have changed since. Even Martin Winterkorn, the fired ex VW boss (Diesel gate!) was very impressed of the new Korean quality. Can I imagine driving a KIA Rio myself? Yes, of course. The only problem could be finding a dealer in Germany. Volkswagen dealers you find here at every corner. The next KIA dealer is 20 kilometers away. He also sells Ford, Opel, Peugeot and Citroën. I usually prefer smaller dealers because then you have a more personal relationship.
there are too many Design Features taken from german Premium manufatures...the outside Line is VW Polo. the AC Unit is Audi and the steering Wheel is from Mini...
if they will use as turbo charged version the 1000ccm 3 cylinder turbo machine it would be really a shame. they should be competetors of polo gti and fiesta st. the 1.4 l engine of pro ceed gt with 205ps would be insane but even the 1.4l thats use in the hyundai i30 turbo would be enough :)
Thank You Thomas! Maybe You will take over soon the moderation from TopGear or something else ;) About the Kia is my question: comes there any modern automatic gearbox?
What? Old 1.25 and 1.4 liter naturally aspirated gasoline engines still available? 1.25 liter model is barely useful in a 3th generation Rio when driving alone, but already with one passenger car starts to run out of horse power, thanks to 5-speed gearbox and unbelievably long gear ratios. Can't wait to see and test drive 120hp turbocharged model.
Pues cuando estrenaron la Sportage no tardó mucho en llegar, además el host mencionó que es un lanzamiento global. Yo también espero que llegue pronto.
Design-wise definitely nothing to ride home about, in fact I prefer the predecessor's caricature look... but then I don't think this category's meant to fill any 'uber design' brief, it's a sub-budget car lets be real here. I'd get a little Kia if I needed practical simplicity to get from A to B & wanted problem-free ownership for 7 years. Can't argue with that, my mate got one & seems happy. Here's some interesting reads of happened here Down Under with competing VW & Korean strategies: practicalmotoring.com.au/car-news/volkswagen-oz-boss-claims-korean-competitors-lack-authenticity/ twww.caradvice.com.au/475516/hyundai-hits-back-at-volkswagen-over-aspirational-comments/ I read an interview piece somewhere with a Kia rep, that their strategy was to build lifelong relationships with customers through trust, quality service/products, so they'll always return for upgrades. That rather than just trying to smash sales records every month through a short-term vision. Hilarious when you juxtapose that rhetoric with their cars of the 1990s, you couldn't even whisper "quality" & "Korean" in the same sentence! I think that's where VW failed customers (here in Australia at least). Shitloads of engines/gearboxes blew in Golfs/Polos & they sat silently arms crossed while customers forked out thousands in driveline replacements or fight unhonoured warranties for what was essentially design flaws. Nonetheless heaps still love them, since the Golf's presence is bloody abundant. They're undeniably beaut pieces of kit, nutha mate also has one of them too.
Absolutely agree, I had a previous gen i20 with the 100PS 1.4 and it was very coarse and inefficient. I have a Leon now with the 1.8 TSI and I'm getting better MPG than with the Hyundai!
I agree. I owned a 1.4 with "theoretical" 109 cv and it was so underpowered under 3 000 rpm. Fuel consumpution was far way from official ratings. Now I own a 208 and its engine is much better. Kia announced a few months ago they will offer a 1.0 turbo GDI version in this Rio with 100 cv.
Omg man its just a Hyundai i20 in different looks. Why bother so much with korean junk? They spam with copycats of the copycats. You have bunch of korean junk on the channel and not even a single Golf review! (Non gti or R Golfs at least). How relevant that makes you?

Korean junk? You must be kidding...recently famous German magazine "AutoBild" tested Kia Sportage in their so called "dauertest" (duration test for non-German speakers) and it finished #1 - i.e. as top reliable car ever tested in this kind of test. Hyundai i30 estate is on 2nd place, btw. Kia is also top reliable brand in J.D. Power survey for 2016. I have zero problems with my Kia Ceed although it has 143000 kms...recently one driver of Kia has gotten prize from Kia importer in my country for his car with 500 000 kms on it . Korean cars junk? lol
Mediocre engines. German design (looks like an Audi A3 in the lateral and 1 Series in the back), nice but not original or disruptive. I like the car but with the 1.0 turbo GDI will be much better.

New Kia Rio full driving review: th-cam.com/video/_CYEv97QEvw/w-d-xo.html
By far You're the only one reviewer who has checked if under 2nd trunk/boot floor is space for a spare tire. Well done!
Both the car and host have a great package.
i just bought mine and picking it up tomorrow ... i cant wait . so excited
enjoy!

Look at Mercedes CLA a copy of Hyundai Genesis Coupe, look at BMW 2 Minivan a copy of Kia Carens and etc.
Being an owner of a rio 2012 model, i have to say that the Dash looks great :) i really like the layout. Looking forward to the turbocharged engine!
the host is gorgeous! what a stud
I think they've modernised the design well, to keep it modern - and I like the contemporary style for a small hatchback. +gordon bennett good aspects. Aeb is offered! But optional
Ha! For good or for bad, I wonder when we can predict that AEB will be mandatory on new vehicles - just as has happened to airbags, ABS, ESP, DRL's, Tyre Pressure Monitors...! As I say, for good or for bad!
Serious video! I would not buy this (good?) car but watching this very thorough video has been interesting! Good job
The previous generation was one of the best value for money propositions on the market. This one looks promising, hopefully the improvements won't raise the price considerably.
I like how that have tweaked the look... Looks good.. Thumbs up

thanks for great review, hope this one will buy in Vietnam soon
Looks good. Hopefully the driving dynamics are much better than past Rios.
14:29 I wonder if they realised that looks like a smiley face haha
nice car...will buy one when it comes to VN
kia Rio je hodně povedené auto,ma sportovní švih a ve své třídě bude patřit k nejlepším!

It would be great if they should add the LED Headlights or Bi Xenon Headlight which will give it more competitiveness in its segment.
It has a very similar silhouette/side profile to the A-Class
did they changed the module for the speed limit sound . that thing keeps annoying me when I have long trips
Nice review!!!
+giangos join us for more! 👍
Hey,what you got to say about the new I30? will you be reviewing it any time soon?
Cool redesign😃
The side profile looks almost identical to the Hyundai i20

ast5515 I know, but it would have been nice if they looked more different. The last Rio and i20 looks completely differently
Paul Hojda could be from the same platform but different styling

About the Kia is my question: comes there any modern automatic gearbox?
I think we are just fine here =) thanks
Just manual.
LED headlights already? I seen interior light still festoon not LED... but now has satnav...
what kind of car have you ?
Look like kia spectra5 hatch or cerato hatch which look nice. Engine could be underpowered though
Great video . Kia have stepped up the mark in terms of design . I cant wait to see the full drive and performance test. @leej743

nice and reliable car as i20
I like it, nice car!
Thomas: Did they mention anything about the sedan? thanks.
not yet m8
love this car
will the new Audi A8 2018 be at Paris Auto Show ?
+Oyun Abisi afaik no
as far as i know ? no right
Looks a lot like a Polo or a Golf. Too bad because i'm a Hyundai - Kia fan and i hate VW boring design.
Yeah for sure, in fact the display is the same as the Golf, where s the inspiration? I believe it's from a german designer
"Río" in spanish means "river" and also means "(I) laugh". it definitely doesn't sound quite korean to me.
Thomas when is this car coming to the Caribbean
uh dont know, your dealer should know
Thomas, can you share your music playlist?
=) how
سيارة جميله جدا ان شاء الله اشتريها
спасибо за видео
Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand. Just like that river twisting through a dustly land.
Great video Thomas, thank you. Are they still doing a 3 door? If so, I hope they bring it to North America.
+ydmf2 thanks! Hmmm havent heard of that. 5door is better usable though
I don't think a 3 door will be offered. The Hyundai i20 Coupé is a nice looking car though.
looks nice
many of the components are identical to my new i20. the seats are the same too
yes they are siblings
i personally prefer the previous version
guys at Kia need to get balls and put a 2.0 liter in this beauty
Thank you
I hope this car arrive early to Mexico..

Lo estamos produciendo en Pesqueria Nuevo Leon, espera su lanzamiento Local. Mexico ha sido parte de su desarrollo en la nueva planta. Saludos

Oh my gosh just kill off the stupid 1.25 and 1.4. Seriously they are terrible. Underpowered, old fashioned, heavy on fuel, lethargic, unrefined.....

Kinda reminds of an Audi /VW hatch. ZZzzzz
look like a Toyota Yaris

Lada Vesta better
денег мало?
Маловато... Хотите поделиться?
