      @@Thecraig909 I really liked it! Nothing like high compression, cammed up crisp engine. My 289s and my 390s both had that same cackle and quickness. My FE really was an adolescent 427. It made every head turn in the school parking lot. Why Ford wouldn’t do it I’ll never know. Mine was like that 289, but at 4500 when other engines were turning down, mine was just getting it up and pounding! I miss those days! I’m blind now and can’t drive. My Blue 65 Galaxie with a 390 that makes 509 hp at 6800 is sitting out there in the driveway. Everyone refuses to have anything to do with it. My son even cut the wiring out so I wouldn’t try to drive it into an Oak tree. That’s life. We built it from the ground up together, but my lust for power is its undoing. He’s in his 40 s and more responsible than me. It is truly a disabled car.

      @@4SpeedGarage it is a piranha all bones and teeth and it’s even red! Lol. I miss my 289s 4,speeds and a3 finger clutch that requires home built Z-bar like I had to do. Mine would fold up and even broke the stud off in the block. I had to make it connect to the scattershid, my wife wrecked her left knee trying to drive it. I had a Super Shifter 3. I could float the gears from driving a big truck. I tried to teach her, but it is a feel thing. My top loader was from a 71 Cougaerc351C 4V and it was was tough. The rear was the main problem. The 8, is a fairly good rear. I had a left axle come out too. I had 9,s or Dana 60s in my FE Mustangs. Nothing like that crackle of high compression and big solid or a roller cam. The one in my 65 Galaxie sounds sweet, 509 at the wheels and a Spartan lunchbox locker with 4.33s. I miss being able to see . I got a traumatic brain injury from a fall that screwed up my fretting arm on the guitar too. Shattered my shoulder and broke my arm in the shoulder. I really miss driving and playing guitar. A real kick in the balls. lol.

  • @Bbbbad724
    @Bbbbad724 หลายเดือนก่อน +39

    I built a 12;1 390 at .030 over ( 396ci) way back in 1976 in a 67 Mustang fastback with a similar 3 inch exhaust just straight out in front of the wheels and a big solid cam that sounded like a Super Stock and it was really sweet at 7200, 4 speed and it was crazy. Nothing is like a high compression, high revving open exhaust that exited at at the rear wheels. That little 289 brought back so much, the crispy snarl of my 396 FE would make people flinch. And I never got caught by any cop car, ever and I took a lot of lunch money with a MR 2x4 intake, no hood and a pair of 427 carbs. I got married and my wife only rode in it once, it could hit 7500, but 7200 was where I shifted it. 2 disc clutch, scattershield. It sounded like a small block but oh man I wish I still had it. It was so spooky! You guys have done FEs, this way an adolescent 427, lol. Great 289! And the 302 in the Effie is bad ass too. We are all Ford guys and the recipe is the secret. ARP hardware.

      @@Tanner731 You might want to replace the vacuum rubber lines,especially the rubber ones to the transmission modulator, and maybe shoot just a spritz of PB Blaster under the th 8 sided piece that the points rub on, try not to get it on that points cam but try to hit the advance under the plate and move the rotor back and forward and get freest feel you can from the centrifugal advance. Yo might have to to go under each lobe on the points cam to loosen it up. And that rubber line to the vacuum advance Id replace it too. They crack over time. The stalling might get better and it might be a good idea to get the transmission serviced. Take it to a place that knows Fords. As a test ask them what fluid does it need? I the anything but Type A or F go somewhere else. It could just be low or had the wrong fluid topping it off. No Decron, Macon, or Hardon ( ok I made that one up) will work. I have not stayed in touch with him, but he is from TX and builds a lot of racing transmissions for NHRA Stock and Super Stock guys. I don’t have his number but a Google search should help. If it is a C4 a band adjustment for both bands might help. Servos can leak too and appear to be pan leaks. Just my .02. The C4 is a good transmission. Much less parasitic loss than a C6, and more robust than an FMX.

    Gentlemen thank you for the fantastic video. I've always been a little on the poor side of life but had pretty cool toys and your 67 is pretty damn close to my highschool car. I had a 68 GT fastback. It was powered by a thirty over 302 top loader 4spd to a 9inch Detroit locker and 471 gears. In back also we're a pair of Lakewood slapper bars. The exhaust was a pair of Hooker headers with a pair of thrush collector mufflers The body was a little rough and I painted it with Rust-Oleum gloss black rattle cans and my good friend Ed Kowalski helped me paint a flame job on the nose also with rattle cans. It rolled on cragar SS wheels and Roger Ward l 60x 15s and 14x 7 on the front with a pair of Gabriel highjackers air shocks to keep the tires from rubbing. I fiberglassed an l 88 Vette scoop on it and bolted on Shelby upper and lower side scoops and called the car the Black beast. She was the most fun I've ever had in a car even though I've been in much faster cars. It was loud a noxious and I got in more than my fair share of trouble with it I only made it to the track at Connecticut dragway once but the best run of the day was a 12. 5 at 115. With the stout gears I could pull the front end all the way through 3rd gear and the sound inside with the sound deadening material out of it was off the hook. If you travel at all for cars and parts I'm in naugatuck Connecticut and my name is Craig. I have to sell everything I have and get out of here soon. Reach out to me at 203 360 5407. I love the video

    Sounds good! If you have the time build another similar system using an H Pipe to show the difference in sound. Personally I like the old school H pipe sound and in most cases a X pipe makes the same or less power. X pipe placement is critical to see power gains. I say pick your sound and run with it. Oh you could use larger outlet piping on the straight through system for a deeper sound. Just crush the pipe to make some clearance.

    I'll admit I am more of a 9.5" deck Windsor guy however...for the longest I have wanted to see how a big bore 8.2" block like a 4.125"-4.185" bore with a 2.87" crank would run, maybe with something like TFS 11R 190cc or 205cc heads. If a 358ci 4.030"x3.5" with 11R 190s will make 595hp, then I would have to believe that a 4.125"-4.185" x 2.87 at 307-312ci should be capable of at least 575-625hp too, especially if it's turning 7000-8000rpms. Obviously it would ve much easier to make the power and have it happen at much lower rpms if you built an 8.2" 363 or a 9.5" 427-460ci and you'd have way more tq and ypu cpuld gear it way taller to hit the mph...however a big bore 2.87" stroke engine with 306-312ci would just be radical and ridiculous as hell...one could even co crazier with something like Boss 302/Clevor style heads where you could go dream style 5L limit Trans Am cheater with the 4.125" bore and a 2.87" crank at 306ci which is still within 5L without being closer to 5.1L. I can't imagine how a 4.0"-4.030" block with a 3" stroke could possibly make more power if you had enough compression, head, cam, induction to make the big bore short stroke scream, it would definitely be down on low rpm tq but so what, that high rpm 7000-8000rpm HP would have to be there. I'm guessing the Twisted Wedge style heads would beat the Clevo style heads in average power and power under the curve however there is a chance that there could be a tiny bit more hp way the heck upstairs with the 2.165" intake valves like a Boss 302 head made from aluminum or perhaps a set of CHI heads could take you past 650hp...maybe 700hp+ if you went full nuts with the 4.185" bore x 2.87" 312ci. Really just hitting 600-625hp at 4.125" x 2.87" 306ci would be astounding. Great build, I like the style, very early 70s Frank Bullet meets Carroll Shelby and Grumpy.

Well teenage me didn't know what "hub centric" was. Felt a bad wobble, jacked up the car and only one wheel bolt was barely holding it on. The other 3 had broken. I was doing 75+ 3 minutes before i stopped. Could of been bad.

    Love his old school style. I have had several '68 GT's and a '70. Also, several Maverick/Comets. Currently (since 1994) a 1970 Maverick with a Blurprint 347 Roller/Stroker, ATI StreetFighter C-4 transmission and 8" with a 300 Yukon spool, 28 spline, big block drum brakes and a pair of those old school slapper bars you alluded to. Willwood disc's. in the front and I did yield to an HEI just to eliminate half the wiring under the hood. Went 750 spread bore carburetor for now. Rest of the car looks like it could have rolled of the showroom (except the functional Boss 302 hood scoop and chin spoiler. Mine is just in Rustoleum semi-gloss black for now. Got all the stuff to repaint it, but all I really want to do is drive it! No AC, no fuel injection, no heater or wipers. Just an onery old hot rod. I LOVE your approach the way you are executing this build. Great series.

Also When I was a kid a guys wife had a 76 nova SS all the old school treatments lumpy cam bigs n littles custom SS stripes side exit exhaust sounded tough I would watch it rumble by and think mannn so cool, so I'm like 24 I went to trade my mint 85 Z28 for money and a nova, I pull in and said hey is that big eds wife's nova? Yup! Well safe to say I bought it and it was one of the funnest cars I've owned. As an adult I prefer 68-74 novas but as a kid the 75-79s were the one. The 76 SS is a sweet ride tho.

      @@95Sn95 There used to be a 68 Nova SS that came with a 396, but I built him a homebrewed L-88 427 and painted it Silver metallic with no SS markings and it was a f’n beast. I worked building circle track big blocks after school for some of the local talent and had access to a great 70s machine shop. It was fun. The Ford 427s were the most beastly because they were so light compared to other big blocks. Those were great cars. I love all makes.

    What is Ethan’s YT page name? This is one of my most favorite vid’s as I had a ‘67 fastback GTA back in the 70’s! (The Achilles-heel of 67’s is the shock towers need an aftermarket reinforcement kit welded in ‘inside-&-out’ or fractures will emanate outward from the upper a-arm mounts!) The removable under engine ‘cradle-tube’ also needs ‘trans-am/boss’ spec reinforcement plates/tabs welded on also. The Shelby export brace was a proper beginning! Can I adopt Ethan? He’s doing it right!
