      As cool as these cars are, when given the choice of a glorified tractor and a modern dual cab ute it's an easy choice for most...

    Hahaha about the cup holders, in NZ my new Troopy came standard with 4 cup holders in the front.
    In NZ the Troopy is only a 2 seater
    We also have a reverse camera standard.
    I was after the standard narrow tyres for my own driving style and in New Zealand we get a MT version of the tire and 33 inch .
    The troop carrier in NZ is in between your Workmate and the GLX of Australia.
    We also get the wind up windows in the Troop carrier which I love because it stopped wasting time trying to go up and down with a little button to get the right opening.
    Plus in New Zealand, we get front and rear diff locks standard
    I also got the genuine Toyota bull bar and a Toyota winch, Plus Towbar.
    I love the simplicity of the 78, I have a TJM, snorkel to replace the standard one sitting in the house, but the best model I’ve done is a guest stick extension of 50 mm improved the economics of driving considerably.
    I know you’d like all your armrests, but I’m glad not to have any as there is no need to put my arms anywhere when I’m stopped I just get out .
    I’m removing the centre little box in mine and putting a checker plate to be able to get between the seats and walk into the back .
    Keep your great videos

      You have some great ideas in there mate! The different model features are interesting too. I’m happy with the way things are coming along and it sounds like you have your troopy all sorted too 👍 If you are ever over here, let me know and we will have to have a trip out 👍

    Wind up windows and 'cheese cutters' that's me.I have had Troopies since 1996 and they had split rims then.Keep in mind Mark if you get bigger wheels it takes it's toll on the wheel bearings.Most people get wider and bigger wheels because it looks good.Never had a problem off road with standard wheels and have been an advantage in some cases.They also have better fuel economy and less resistance.That gear stick extender is the best mod for it's price you can do for the newer 70 series .

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s all good points. To be honest, I don’t mind the cheese cutters. They work well from my testing and I’m getting great fuel economy. It’s good to hear from someone who has been running them for a while too 👍

    I'm on the same page as you mate. I got the twin locked version. The factory scrub bars are really weak though. Already bent the drivers side one at the join. The gap between where it bolts to the chassis is where it pushed upwards.

    What are you planning to do/where are you planning to go in the 79 to really test it offroad aside from Cape York again?

    Would be a nice change for sure :)

    Mark, i would run 2 spares, handy and cheapest way to have and fix the track correction issue. Will be so much better off road especially sand having the same track. 😊😢 Tyres i reckon the best 305/70/16. Proper 33 inch dia and 12.5 inch width. My preference a hydrid r/t tyre. Toyo or Goodyear

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @richardwalsh5570
      @richardwalsh5570 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NorthOz definitely alloy in this day and age. All comes down to budget and the offset you can get. I would ensure what ever offsets you go, always go with widest LEGAL. Many people run the gauntlet regarding offset and you are only allowed to increase track 50 mm total. Cheers mate enjoy the build.

      Hi mate congrats on the new rig!! I’d recommend an aftermarket seat and bracket. If you want to keep it stock, I’d talk to a local fabricator to see if they can make a relocating mount or bracket to fit the factory seat assembly and get it engineered for legal compliance. The lack of cabin room is not good and would definitely look into options to make sure you are comfy. That’s what I would go with 👍

    The Mahindra is not a valid alternative to a LC like you implied. I just got rid of my Mahindra, it is not even 2yo and only has about 30k on the clock and has spent most of its life in the workshop getting warranty claims. The final straw was a major structural fault. The dealer i bought it off for nearly $50k gave me $18k for it in trade after months sitting in their workshop. I by luck got a 79 where the contracted owner could take delivery so i got it zero wait time. What a debacle to get to this point.

    Your registration fee for $866.85 for 12 months. Is that registration plus property (excise) tax? In the US, registration for 24 months cost $60 USD.

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi mate, our registration is really expensive. Doesn’t include any other taxes just purely the ability to drive the vehicle. Licensing costs more too. We also legally have to pay for third party insurance as well and we have to pay our own comprehensive insurance if we want to cover ourselves in case of an accident. It isn’t cheap driving a vehicle over here that’s for sure!

    • @spudboy1328
      @spudboy1328 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NorthOz The $866 includes 3rd party personal injury insurance, so if you skittle someone they don't come back to you to cover their medical costs etc. So there is an insurance component to the registration cost, for sure.
