Great question! "Pegarle la gana" means to do whatever you want or whatever you feel like. "Los gatos hacen lo que les pega la gana" - means "Cats do whatever they want". You can also use the verb dar, it's probably more common. "Los gatos hacen lo que les da la gana."

No tengo una mascota ahora. Tuve una gata antes pero ahora no. Sin embargo, si tengo una casa con jardin un día, pienso en tener un perro. Voy a llamar a él "Calvin" en honor a un perro que rescató su dueño de un atacante. A lo mejor pueda tener otras animales como una gata o gatos, un loro o loros o un perro más. Y voy a llamar a ese otro perro "Patrick" también en honor a un hombre que se llama eso y intentó salvar niños en la playa.
