That veneer fix is absolutely GENIUS! I have a 79 Firebird that I was thinking of putting some vinyl wood grain on but now I think I could do the real things! This would be sooooo epic!
No. Most beautiful looking car ever made, let alone V12 engine. The Diamond white and British Racing Green colours with pepper pot wheels were superb machines. Horrible to tune, terrible milage but awesome style.
Good for you. I'm one of the ones that really likes the styling of the XJS. Quite apart from anything else, nobody can mistake it for anything other than a Jag. I'm not so sure about the more recent offerings.
Good veneering, I did not expect it to come out that good. Usual practice is to flatten the veneer first by soaking it and pressing. I built a custom dashboard and that took 18 coats of yacht varnish.
I don't. Ed is just a tinkerer that plays to the camera, I can't believe how he goes about doing stuff, And yes i've got 30 years experience as a fully qualified mechanic and audatex qualified vehicle collision estimator, Cheers.
I've had two xjs jaguars. You can peal the headliner off the backing and glue new fabric on it if you can't get a complete headliner. Less expensive. Two yards of fabric and some high temperature spray adhesive. I know this car inside out from working on it.
£1000 for a working Jaguar XJS. The cheapest I can find (In Norway, mind you) is £8700 right now.. and THAT is a car that works, but still requires some work. I have no idea about the general condition of it other than what is shown on pictures. There's also one for £7500, but that is pre HE.. and a Jaguar XJS pre HE type will be even more of a nightmare to run, maintain and fuel. I still want one. I find those cars to have a sort of charm to them that crosses the line between Grand Tourer and Muscle. It's not a muscle car, but with that look it might well be one.. and I love that. It's the sort of car that would go splendidly well along with some good ol' rock tunes.
back during my romance with Audis, I had the usual headliner problem. I was able to find headliner fabric at a local fabric store. Had it in 5-6 colors.

Hello, My 86 XJS interior is a medium delft blue. That is the mfgs color. Where can I get fabric to redo the door pillars and side wall cards? Thank you!
I wish I had someone exactly like Edd China to fix up all my classic, old cars. I also wish I had a bunch of classic, old cars....and could afford to pay Edd China to fix them up.
I'm fine with both. Been watching the show ever since the first one with the Porsche 924. Both are just as good. The show however now has become dumbed down for simpletons who have never held a spanner for them to understand restoration. 🤦♂️
this programme always annoyed me. often they would send jobs out to other people to do or not show you how to do it yourself (like remaking seat covers from scratch) or they would buy in new/reconditioned (like engines) rather than rebuild it themselves. but the ONE thing that annoyed me MOST of all, was many times id see a car which, including parts would stand them at, say, £18,000. then they would sell the car for £20,000. and then make a big deal about the £2,000 'profit' they made. so, for those of us in the real world, does the mechanic not get paid? ever? who pays the mechanics bills if that £2,000 'profit' you made on the car and the parts you bought? im fairly certain that the hours put in (in some of the vehicles i saw) would come to WELL over £2,000 (or whatever the 'profit' margin was) so in reality, unless you ARE a mechanic AND retrimmer AND painter, how have you REALLY made ANY profit??? the episode shown is one of the few ive seen where they actually RESTORE something. ANYONE can buy a van full of bits and bolt it into a car. most semi competent DIY welders/mechanics can go out, buy panels and fit them. how about MAKING things. buy something where you CANT just throw money at it, but have to make your own (especially if you arent taking the mechanics time into account with the costs, or all the sundries such as welding supplies, adhesives etc) panels or adaps things to fit? that would be MUCH more interesting!

Why did you watch it if it annoyed you? It isn't run as a business, it's a TV show about breathing new life into old cars. It's like comparing '60 Minute Makeover' to a painting and decorating business.
a real wheeler dealer with an industrial unit like that would have it full of hydroponics! ;0) but seriously.... if they can make £2000 profit in 60 minutes , thats not bad going
If you can remove it, you can peel off the lining, scrape off the old foam and glue, then using high temperature fabric spray (so that it doesn't peel off in high summer) apply a new fabric liner. Some cars recommend removing the rear windscreen but I've managed to get it out through the largest door. Maybe search for jaguar headliner replacement on TH-cam as there's a decent replacement video
I don't understand why all the veneer pieces weren't pulled and redone, so they would all in fact be the same DARK color they were when new (note the original dark color along the trailing edge of the center ski slope piece when he holds it up). Otherwise, it will be a bit like "whack-a-weasel" as the other pieces continue to fade over time - needing to redo them one at a time as they do.
@@wildbillharding I don't know anyone personally who has owned one. But I remember seeing them back in the mid 70s to early 80s, when I was still a boy. While I found the XJS more attractive than the XJ6 sedan (saloon), I've never been a fan of the V12 engine used in the XJS.

Edd, what a consummate professional. My XJS was constantly and constantly in the shop, costing huge $’s, worse than the XJ6. Stick to German engineering, I’ve had no luck with British Vehicles.
See1.51. You need a sticker ! They are made in china ( i know ..made in china sucks ) but they have a sticker backing and are simulated wood. It will stick with precision and all details cut out from the front so you can make it perfect.
This was a great series. They really should get a couple of new mechanics and revamp it. Edd is pleasant enough but no real personality. It would be nice to have a couple of guys who can add some real spark to it.
those XJS had engines that are a nightmare to figure out what is wrong with them... apparently this one still worked.. but most XJS you find on the market probably are not, and have been sitting around for 10, 15 years .. getting those cars 'sorted' with the original engine is a nightmare(not to mention Xpensive!).. most just rip out the engine and replace it with a chevy 350.
