Wow! I cannot stress enough the importance of visiting architecture to deeply understand it, and you know that so well. This trip to Finland is gonna be awesome!
Your explanation about why Finnish architecture is so important and why there´s no postmodernism there is just perfect! And it was like how much? A minute or two? I can´t imagine how it would be like ten days being exposed to all your knowledge. And all those amazing buildings!
    Definitely a great tour!
Ps. Archimarathon STUDIO looks amazing. Congrats!

What has always made Aalto the best of modernist architects (in my personal opinion) is his humane touch when drawing buildings (especially private houses). What I mean by this is that I can appreciate Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House, Le Corbusier's Villa La Roche-Jeanneret and The Villa Savoye on a cerebral level as works of art and design.
But would I want to live in them? No.
And the reason for me is simple; they are too clean and sterile, they are showpieces. They are like a Lamborghini or a Ferrari, a car that is suberb on track but try to use one as an everyday car and the shine of them wears of rather quickly.
Aalto's houses however you can see - and use - as homes, because they were designed as such. You can actually see yourself living in Villa Mairea, Villa Skeppet or Villa Kokkonen and think of them as homes and not as machines to live in.

No mention of Alvar’s namesake Aalto University and the Otaniemi campus? :) There’s lots to see there. For example Dipoli, the campus chapel, the main library of the campus, the old main building of the Helsinki University of Technology etc. The whole campus was actually built from scratch based on Alvar Aalto’s master plan.

@@Archimarathon Yes reminds me of my trip to Egypt last summer when i asked a local in Cairo if he could guide me witch what direction the pyramids where. He answered that he has never seen them because he just lives there, and he can see everyday the pyramids at the back of his bank notes.
Now i realize that i am exactly the same i just live here and i dont think at all what is near me.

Soooo... I live like right outside of Kaleva's chuch in Tampere... holyy fick. Imagine my suprise when two Australian blokes are talking about places which are tied directly to my family and where my mother too is from.
Please add the small village of Eura to your list. We have a lot of Alvar Aalto buildings and design there!
(Also please do try to get to a stable, where there's Finnhorses! In Eurajoki, the old care home for elders now functions as a stable!)

Alvar Aalto was such a master. Everyone who can should visit his work.
It's an interesting comment that Finland basically ignored postmodernism, and went straight to critical regionalism since the beginning. A similar pattern can be found in other countries around the world. It underscores how ridiculous so much criticism of modernism is.
