I was going to say the same thing. The icons are good in this game, but the cards are pretty diverse. And little questions like this will definitely come up the first 10 games or so.
I'd love to see a live playthrough of this in a Spectacular! Great review, as usual! This has become my most played game in my collection, and in my top 5 favorite games of all time.
A really good game, but the rule book was frustrating. If it wasn't for the Game Night! playthrough, we never would have figured out how to play this. And using it as a reference for a few things during the game was a frustrating experience as well.

I really don't get the theme critique. It's one of the most popular themes in the universe, the only people who would think "oh its just another mage game" as you said are the people who have a house full of games or play a new game almost every day like you. I don't think those people make up the majority of customers.
I think the critique is that it's another generic fantasy theme. That's been beyond done to death. There's a whole world of people that play board games and aren't fantasy/sci-fi nerds.
Brian Lelas it’s German name. Correct way to say it is: first syllable Leh is pronounced like „lay“ (closest approximation I can think of) and second syllable Mann is pronounced „mon“ but like the beginning of money without the ey-ending.
I would never tell anyone this is a "Mage vs Mage" game... that is strictly theme. Mechanically, it plays nothing like other such games. It's pure engine-building. I see there is some "attacking" other players, but I'm guessing it isn't overly common. There is "Attacking" in 7 Wonders as well, and it probably feels similar to that.

Would you say the same if the name on the box didn't read "Tom Lehmann"? Also about the theme? See... in this game you get an Elven Bow as a Duelist to construct the Great Pyramids of Giza... Makes sense, right?
Comments like this amaze me. Because a particular designer is on the box, Tom is. .......? What? Rendered too stupid to review the game rationally? Under the influence of some sort of scam? Somehow unable to look at the game on its merits? If you’re going to make this blunt an accusation, go ahead and spell it out in detail.
Words matter. Here’s an analogy for you. Tell me what you do for a living, and what is the heart of your ability to make money. Let me go ahead and strike right at the heart of it by questioning your intelligence and/or integrity. Then tell me how you feel.You don’t seem to understand the import of your own words.

Seasons is a lot deeper, but this looks like a nice light engine builder.
Now that I've played the game, I can say that they have NOTHING in common.

Just played this tonight. Good game but a couple of the cards especially one in particular is broken and whoever gets it first should win everytime.
