    Vince is arguably the greatest dunker of all time, but his shooting ability, playmaking creativity was so overlooked. Hope VC gets one more poster in his final season #22 💯🔥and at least a last All Star invite

    This is easily the best roster Vince Carter ever had in his career. He never played on a serious Championship contending team before.
    Also, Vince finally got to play next to an elite big man in Prime Dwight Howard. Which he also never had in Toronto Raptors or New Jersey Nets. During 2000s, having a great big man was always needed for a team who competed for a Championship.
    But sadly, Vince was 33 year old and obviously past his prime at that point of his career. His performances against Boston Celtics in ECF 2010 was difficult to watch.

    • @sauce556
      @sauce556 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Abu Hassan that last sentence is an understatement. Looking back Vince actually played quite well in game 1 and most of game 2 - actually hit two big clutch shots near the end ...but those two missed free throws completely broke his psyche and it was incredibly hard to watch. Didn't help that Vince has never gotten the respect of the officials. Wish he would've gotten another shot in 2011 but can't completely fault Orlando as Vince couldn't stay completely healthy and was a little inconsistent.

    • @mikesannitti6042

      I think he gets unfairly scapegoated for that series against the Celtics. In game 1 he was the ONLY ONE on his team who came to play and as you said he was solid in game 2. The games where he hardly did anything were WINS, though! The team was meant to be stacked, not just his team, and he wasn't really needed for those games. I really can only blame him for missing those FTS.

      @@mikesannitti6042 Come to think of it ...I now remember just how terrible the coaching was. The team would play through Howard or Jameer throughout the game...and then come the 4rth q - sort of just expected Vince to behave like a video game and give them instant offense under intense defense without having formed any rhythm whatsoever. Sometimes it was flat out ridiculous.

    • @mikesannitti6042

      @@sauce556 i think Stan Van (and possibly Joerger who tried to end his career twice) was the worst coach Vince ever had. Vince's role then was ill defined and more fitting for the 40 year old version of himself where he stays on the perimeter and out of Dwight's way. I'm actually surprised there were this many drives this year, but in nearly every one of the pick plays you can see Dwight looking for the ball and sometimes looking upset despite Vince making the shot.

    A hard year for Vince. Never forget the struggling January. Then former coach Lawrence Frank came and he did better against Bucks then few days later dropped down 48 points. Like others said, his contribution in the Playoff was underrated, Orlando lost first two games when he scored and won games he barely scored. Those two free throws really broke him down. He was always better than Paul Pierce until then. It's a series hard to recall. And I will never forgive Orlando for trading him for Gilbert Arenas and Jason Richardson the next season. Really stupid.

    • @elreiec1
      @elreiec1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That really is crazy to think about had he done that in a Magic uniform.
      For me, the game I thought he would have had a career-high was when he was a Net. I recall watching this on TV; he was going off at home vs. the prime Spurs and torching Bruce Bowen. He had around 43 at the end of 3 quarters and was on fire. The notoriously overrated Bowen pulled a dirty move (putting his feet in Vince's landing zone) and ended up getting Vince his second tech of the game. Vince was ejected, and the Nets ended up losing. He also spoiled Vince's possible career night.

    This season showed most how unselfish VC has always been. He could've averaged 20+ and been the Man, but he had a theme with his scoring in this team, he'd end nights with 20points while scoring 18 in the second half. I think they should have fully ran thru him then howard. He was the only one in that team who could put the ball on the floor and score from different angles. They also shouldn't have broken up the team so stupidly. I believe this team could've competed with the miami big 3: no one was big enough to box out Dwight, Rashad Lewis was a mobile 4 for Bosh, Vince has always been able to put up numbers over wade, and orlando had a deep bench; LeBron would've had to average 40. So they should've re-signed Barness, never let VC, Pietrus, Gortat, Lewis go. Hedo had a few good seasons but never returned to his orlando form, JRich has never been a dependable scorer on a good team, Arenas was not the same guy was before the gun charges

    • @mikesannitti6042
      @mikesannitti6042 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Vince was actually off to a solid start when he got traded to Phoenix, too. I think it really came down to the Diva in the middle wanting more touches.

    • @Raptorel
      @Raptorel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mikesannitti6042 True. I was actually impressed with Vince in his second season with the Magic. His body looked much better, he worked his butt off in the off-season that year, and he was looking spry. His decline was obvious after the trade to Phoenix but, despite what people remember, he had some pretty solid games with Phoenix as well (29 points, 32 points etc).

    • @Dashman98
      @Dashman98 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@mikesannitti6042 I agree 💯. Since the beginning I've always thought that Howard was just a taller Ben Wallace, same as Javale, Drummond, and Tyson Chandler, the difference is that he had some success scoring. The problem is that he's never improved from when he came in the league. Never fully developed any type of consistent shot. Had Dwight had played the role of garbage man behind Vince, that team could've won more than 59 games. And I know he'd had a rough series vs Boston ECF but i think the bigger issue was that boston figured Howard out. Boston stopped doubling Howard and put a big body one on one with him. Since he couldn't muscle Perkins nor Davis, he turned to shit.

    • @Raptorel
      @Raptorel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Dashman98 That's completely correct. It still beats me how single covering Howard wasn't completely obvious to any coach with a brain whose team played against the Magic.

  • @Raptorel
    @Raptorel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    For me, his most disappointing season. His body looked weak, his shot looked uncertain, people started telling him that he "is old" and he started to play that role. Just a few months ago, in his last games with the Nets, he looked much better. Vince was no longer Vince. His shot, that previously looked like the ball was on a "rail" to the basket, with perfect rotation, looked so different, even the bounces of the ball on the rim looked differently.
    I guess it happens to players traded from a team where they were playing for a long time - they don't longer feel that "alpha dog cockiness" and their shooting (and overall confidence) suffers. But still, no excuse for his physical appearance just a few months after him looking perfectly fine with the Nets. I don't know what was happening in his life at this point so I'm not going to speculate.
    Heck, even the commentators were boring! This and his first season with the Mavs are the most disappointing ones in his career, for me. Despite the 48-point game (which, by the way, pissed me off really hard because at the end Vince was inbounding the ball and other people were fouled to shoot the free throws, instead of him, SVG was a terrible coach with terrible awareness of what's going on).

    • @Goldhand28
      @Goldhand28 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well he had that 1 month stretch when he forgot how to play, but going towards the Playoffs he looked fine, but yes looked a bit outta shape even though I love that SVG made him going towards the rim more and as shown in the video he got some fairly easy layups often.

      I think that’s very short sighted. It was a flawed team built around a flawed player (Howard). Dwight was billed as the number 1 option and the team leader. But he didn’t have a dangerous offensive game and he wasn’t a true leader. It also had too much ego. Jameer and Lewis each wanted 20ppg along with Dwight and VC. The group as a whole didn’t mesh. But there was a stretch, especially 2nd half of the season where VC was clicking. I just wish the offense ran through him, not Dwight and Jameer.
