He’s taking it to an extreme, but he is right to some extent. It’s very human to choose the most convenient option, even if we don’t need to, and we have a lot of very convenient options today. Yes, sometimes there’s simply not enough time to prepare a balanced meal, no, I’m not saying you need to make everything from scratch. But I know a lot of people who could make the time to prepare an easy, balanced meal but choose not to because it’s more convenient to them.

He literally said you don’t have to do what he does and he just finds it fun and satisfying. He also said he doesn’t juice oranges by hand all the time, likely because he has other commitments just like you. So why are you so triggered?
By the way, a lot of people rely heavily on takeout and rarely prepare a meal themselves. Spending the time to prepare a meal from scratch, even just once a week is great way to improve your relationship with food (and yourself).

What bothers me about the carnivore diet is I think the only way to make it has a chance at being healthy in the long run means you have to buy only the highest-quality (aka expensive) meat products possible. Even the average middle-class household could never afford that today. Not to mention it is wildy unsustainable.

    • @AbbeysKitchen

    • @UncleBalthazar1
      @UncleBalthazar1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It's the unsustainability for me too. There are certain things that are considered unsustainable about other diets too, including plant-based/vegan, yet we have the studies now to show that heavy meat consumption is by far the worst culprit. If everyone went carnivore we'd destroy ourselves and the planet (even faster). That's just not justifiable to me.

I think that this might be considered a diet of kings. Indulgent in fat and sugars. Kings often died young due to diets of rich meats, creams, and exotic fruits that only they could afford. Meanwhile the slaves and peasants lived long, hardy lives off of vegetables, grains, roots, and fruits. Whatever they could forage or grow. Possibly eggs or chicken, rabbit (all lean). Or fish.

@@NS-ie2ldhon…… We’re talking the early days of nagivation and colonization. Pasteurization wasn’t invented yet. ALL ANYONE HAD was raw dairy 💀💀 in England and France most castles kept their own bees, and exotic fruit was literally featured as decoration in paintings of nobles’ houses throughout the 16th and 17th centuries because it was only available to the very rich, and the very rich DID avail of it. Their ability to “process” grains was also extremely limited. Bread was not the same light fluffy thing as it is today, and it was eaten by the wealthy, but it was not a luxurious item. Cakes sure but they were definitely high sugar and high fat. And they did eat way too much meat, especially fatty organ meat, such as liver. Gout was literally referred to as the king’s disease bc so many royals had it. King Henry VIII is probably the most well-known example.

Waste from domesticated animals used in cultivating mushrooms, etc… There’s undisclosed insects in parts per million in things like coffee and chocolate. I just found you recently and you are refreshing. I like evidence based advice. I had major concerns when it came to food safety and food borne illness. There are books written by people that were form boarders of the raw milk bandwagon sharing their bad experiences where they got some serious illness as a result of them. Many of them say that they are still feeling the negative effects after their recovery of their illnesses. I will have to find the titles later.
I personally wouldn’t eat anything prepared by him considering the fact he washes his hands with products that have little efficacy killing bacteria 🦠 causing serious illness. Foodborne illness and food safety is something I don’t tinker around with. My now deceased dad got a severe case of food poisoning over 20 years ago when he and my brother were headed down to a judo tournament my brother was set to compete in. It damn (excuse the language) near killed him. My mom had to take him to the doctor for IV fluids and antibiotics to save his life. He got sick 🤢 from a quick meal they stopped at Burger King. We reported them to the health department the joint was located. They didn’t properly hand wash and they didn’t follow health department food safety rules.
The only time(s) restrictive eating is okay is when you have to avoid them because of an allergy, health concern like celiac, a personal dislike, and elimination of a triggering food when an elimination diet is done properly. These are the situations when you can call foods inherently bad.
If you have eczema, it is important to see a specialist like an allergist or other qualified professional that can help you find the correct culprit(s) responsible for the problem. It is important to determine whether the problem is an intolerance or immune response (allergy) causing the problem.
I don’t follow or listen to the MD you are talking about because much of his advice is dangerous based on quack science that causes harm. I don’t follow people giving unrealistic advice that is unattainable to most because you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to have a balanced diet.

Calling someone privileged comes across as a way to dismiss them. So a regular pack of butter costs you $7 and a grassfed steak $20, well Paul often talks about how you can still eat his way even if you cant afford the very best pasture raised, grass fed organic produce. He has videos of eating his way on less than $10 a day from walmart, (obviously economies of scale come into play shopping for more than one.) If you cant afford grass fed rib eye buy ground beef you can afford. Cant buy organic fruit buy the non organic. Same with the eggs, the butter etc. Other carnivores say great results can be achieved even on hot dogs and bologna.
Its just a slimy tactic to call someone "privileged" as a way to dismiss their arguments.
Many of the illnesses you deal with have been successfully cured by sufferers by eating this way. He repeatedly says in this video if you like veggies and they agree with you, then eat them. He says no one has to grind their own meat or juice their own fruit, he just finds it fun and satisfying and he doesnt even do it himself all the time.
Tbh you give me the impression of someone who still has hangups about food and it comes across in your weird childish attacks on others. Acting like a lifestyle of plenty excercise, fresh air and sunshine, eating fruit, dairy, meat, honey and eggs is extreme and perhaps unhealthy is weird af.
As for his alternatives to cleaning products, soaps, toiletries etc this is essentially a low waste, eco friendly minimalism that would be praised if it was coming from someone else.

When it comes to "what should a human eat", I go first with the breastmilk vs. formula response of "Fed is best". I believe there's no one diet that will be 100% correct for everyone. I also believe all scientific findings should be questioned before believed: many are sponsored by those who are set to make money on the findings, few are actually based on women specifically, and a lot are not based on humans at all. The fact our bodies seem designed to eat a variety of foods - from teeth designed to tear as well as teeth that grind, enzymes produced to break down different sources, and the way our body reacts to different foods - so a diet that forbids anything entirely is a red flag to me, unless it is to specifically address an individual food sensitivity or health need.

I've heard similar stories about improved-health from people eating meat-based and people eating plant-based... I think the common denominator is both groups are eating whole, mostly unprocessed food, rather than all the utra-processed food that is normalized nowadays. I personally prefer plant-based because, while I know there are still sustainability issues with it, it is considered significantly more sustainable for the environment than if everyone were to do meat-based.

Don't usually comment, but your videos recently have really been missing the mark, so here we go. Also not a fan of either Will, nor the guy in his video, never seen either of them, but had to check-out the og video, knowing how intentionally you often frame the videos you're "reacting" to.
First, the title is obviously wrong, as you know, because we didn't see a carnivore diet, we saw an animal based diet. As you stated in your video. But the clickbait is clickbaiting, so glad for you i guess. Also your introduction after 0:27 is more than untrue, you never explained the differences between the two diets, nor "got into" what Will thought about the animal based diet. Great video, really!!
2:56 "there are further specs that his 'allowed foods' have to hit [...] you can also have fruits, but only sweet, low fiber fruits" *literally just references a chart that put Sweet Fruits and Non Sweet Fruits within the same category of "good foods"*
"I have a headache from eye-rolling so hard right now" remember guys, she's a professional and educated and definitely not biased or saying what her sponsors like to hear!!
3:36 An elimination like this might seem lazy to you, but as someone with a chronic skin condition and after jumping from cremes, to treatments, to doctors and yes, sometimes to dietitians, I'd give anything for an "easy way out" by eliminating multiple whole food groups.
6:06 "It [juice] also has its beneficial fibers removed" not even mad at your whole point, but this is really a lot of stink just for him blending up a watermelon which already has quite a small amount of fiber.
7:55"It's actually really, really well balanced, we got [...] plus lots of fiber [...]" let's keep this moment in mind.
Not saying that it's wrong to bring up the problem with unpasteurized milk, but why criticize smth that some of the ppl in the movement he is in praise, even though we see no mention of unpasteurized milk in the whole video? And then of course no credit to him for drinking unpasteurized kefir even if it has benefits.
9:55 "Really, all vegans should be supplementing" yeah I'd say the same if i regularly got sponsored by a supplement-company. Also cute how you think you know what professionals all around the world for every individual would recommend.
10:53 It's fine if you don't want to make the time to go through his whole routine, and if you worked like three minimum wage jobs while being a single parent or smth I'd understand that you really *can't* make the time, but really you just don't make the time for this sort of effort because you want to make more money. Which is fine, get your bag and all that, but it's still a decision you're making. Also, as a vegetarian, I thought his tips were plenty helpful and attainable and his video did something for me that none of yours ever did: want me to lead a better life. Because i saw an older guy in great shape who seemed content with his life, as where you're only ever nagging and seem bitter. Not very aspiring.
Now guys, let's put our listening ears on!! 12:36 Paul:"I think people just can't get over the fact that I'm *suggesting* that vegetables are *maybe* not great for *all* humans." Abbey:"I can't get over it bc this advice is *very dangerous* for the masses" *queue the half-crying, whiny voice*
How overblown do your reactions have to be before even you notices that you're stressing out and hating over nothing at all? And I'd say that him saying that maybe, if you have certain issues, you could try switching up your diet a bit and see if it works for you, is actually less harmful than you pushing the idea that eating in a clear nutrient deficit is totally fine as long as you take a couple supplements a day.
15:59 "Okay for dinner we've got a fairly balanced meal, minus the lack of fiber" please google the amount of fiber in e.g. a mango, this dinner has more fiber than many of your oh so amazing HCC(TM).
16:45 Honestly no idea what you're going on about with this "all or nothing mentality". His mindset around food seems super healthy, he's not overly concerned, if at all, with carbs or fat or protein, he just eats what makes him feel good and still makes sure to roughly hit his macros and get in good nutrients.
18:07 L take. Don't know how it is in Canada but in pretty much every part of Europe you have access to these local produce products. And also, since when are we against animals having a good life? Because it's much easier to ensure their quality of life when you buy your butter from a local farmer instead of at Walmart.
And I really hate to have to say this again, but you are just so unbearably smug, it genuinely takes away from the experience.

One part that has nothing to do with nutrition that's bad about this diet is that we couldn't feed the world on those meats, poultry, and seafood. @Parrot5884 หลายเดือนก่อน

@roseg2239 And even then, there are inherent and unavoiable sustainability issues that arise from eating mostly meat. 80-90% of the calories that we put into animals gets pooped out and lost to the atmosphere as heat, so it can't enter our bodies and is lost from the food chain. If you put 1000 000 calories into a cow through their feed, you'll only get 20 000 calories out of it upon slaughtering. Many of those calories are stored in bones, the brain, and a lot of the other organs that most people don't eat. Thats more energy that is being chucked away. Then, there are undesireable parts of the muscle (the meat we typically eat) that gets thrown out by butchers. Finally, as consumers, we often don't eat all of the meat that we purchase, for a number of reasons. More energy that is being lost from the food chain.
Ensuring that a population gets enough calories from meat alone requires planting fields of produce to feed the cows, and then over 90% of the energy produced by that produce never makes it into our bodies. It is disgustingly wasteful when we could just eat the damn produce ourselves and skip the inefficiency. Relying on meat for nutrition is, quite literally, throwing food away.

    Hey Abbey
I have been following your channel for a while. I'd like to first say thank you for your incredible content. Intuitive eating has helped me to begin tackling a BED. I have been going through menopause and really struggling with my weight. This caused a return of some unhealthy relationships I used to have with food. I recently had a doctor's appointment to discuss the issues I am having with my weight. I am doing strength training twice a week, regular yoga sessions and I walk up to 10 miles per week. Unfortunately the weight doesn't seem to be shifting. So I booked an appointment with a female physician to see if she could make some suggestions or possibly run some tests to see if there was an issue with my thyroid. Her advice shocked me. She asked me how many calories I eat in a day. I said I am already in a calorie deficit and consuming between 1400 and 1,600 calories per day. She said there is your problem. You are eating too many calories. You need to drop to below 1000 calories if you want to lose weight. I asked how I could possibly hit my macros at such a low calorie count. And she look at me like I was an idiot and said if you want to lose weight at your age the only way it will happen is if you reduce your calories. I couldn't believe what I had been told. Luckily I have enough information about health and diet to know that her advice was wrong. My concern was that a doctor had given such poor information to someone who had previous eating disorders which included bulimia. When doctors make recommendations in the way that she did add the way that Paul has, they can potentially cause huge issues for people who believe that what they are saying has to be right because they are a doctor. I hope more people than not see your content and understand how important it is to make sure they are informed about the research. Keep sharing, keep calling these people out and keep challenging. Needless to say I did not follow my doctor's advice. I have continued with my exercise and stayed at the same calorie deficit. My relationship with food is healing and I am concentrating on feeling better and healthier rather than having a small waist.

To save you from having to endure listening to this utter drivel, see below.
    1. Will Tennyson is not a carnivore (despite what the clickbait thumbnail says).
    2. Paul Saladino does not and has never claimed this diet is for everyone, he has just found that this way of eating works best for him.
    3. This diet isn't even low carb; it is high in fruits which almost 100% carbs
    4. There's nothing "lazy" about the elimination diet Paul did, in fact, I challenge you to try sticking to it for just a day. It is extremely difficult and requires a lot of discipline which is quite literally the opposite of "lazy". Abbey rattles off a list of dietary eczema triggers which are all things Paul eliminated from his diet and some that he later reintroduced... which is literally how an elimination diet is supposed to work.
    5. This man is so far from nutrient deficient and is far healthier than Abbey with her myriad of gut issues that she has failed to adequately treat despite having a so-called "healthy diet".
    6. Abbey is fear mongering fruit juice and what she calls "naked carbs" but does not take into account Paul's lifestyle and physique. High amounts of "naked carbs" are important for long endurance style workouts and are also balanced out by a high fat and high protein intake.
    7. Abbey says this diet is too expensive for most people which it is but so is her BS protein powder.
    8. Raw kefir has more benefits than pasturised and poses minimal risks but Abbey still freaks out over it.
    9. Paul is correct, vegans need to supplement their diet because it is deficient in certain nutrients. That's just a fact. It doesn't matter if the supplement is "teeny tiny".
    10. Abbey is triggered because someone has the time to make freshly squeezed orange juice whilst she only bakes cookies for her kids once a year and then complains about how much effort it is. Paul literally said you don't have to do this but he just finds it fun and satisfying, he is not doing it to spite Abbey.
    11. Abbey is literally the last person I would be taking gut health advice from, see point 5.
    12. If Abbey actually respected Paul she would not patronise him by calling him "Pauly", say she doesn't want to shake his hand and use childish memes to make fun of him. Instead, she would do what Will did and actually try and understand his point of view. But let's face it, that would never happen because there's a reason no one wants to do collabs with Abbey.

@@Lizard_Queen-ld5uj That's certainly what it looks like to me as well. Unfortunately, what a lot of folks don't realize is that the "science" they worship was once used to defend the advocacy of cigarette smoking. To derive the truth, for example about industrial seed oils, you have to actually explore the rock bottom, most fundamental chemistry that underlies it all. When the human outcome (epidemiological) data is not only mixed/inconclusive, but also not corroborated by black and white mechanisms (such as the indisputable fact that seed oils increase the susceptibility of lipoproteins to oxidation) then we should not question the irrefutable, reproducible mechanisms, but rather, the methodologies underpinning the human outcome studies. All this to say that, in my time as a consultant pharmacist, I've had the opportunity to interact with a number of conventionally trained dieticians. I share with them my story of reversing an apparently incurable disease called eosinophilic esophagitis, and I inform them about the insidious nature of industrial seed oils and the fact that saturated fat was simply the scapegoat for their deleterious impact on human health. Unfortunately these dieticians were indoctrinated within an academic echo chamber that is difficult to pierce through. I am hopeful that such pioneers as Paul, and others, have truly started a bottoms up revolution having amassed sufficient momentum now, that it cannot be stopped and will slowly but surely restore health back to humanity. Folks like Abby I suppose are just doing their best, but my concern is that she muddies the waters and makes it difficult for folks with less capacity for deduction, to discern the truth for themselves.

Besides the raw milk, I find his diet on point. I do think the carnivore diet is silly and their beliefs match vegans a lot but it seems to help people. You can probably find alternatives like organic milk maybe but not raw, the best alterative honey you can find and if you can't find grassfed meat, I'm sure there's the best alternatives. It kind of defeats the point but I dunno, I find it not bad for people that don't like veggies. I'm not on his diet but I could see someone liking those foods. I don't really like veggies so it's good to know that there's other ways to get that in.

Its objectively true that gf butter and beef has a better nutrient profile. And you can get 18 pasture raised eggs from Sams Club for around 4$. Paul has videos showing how to do this diet on a budget.

I don’t fully agree with everything he says, but I see how it works for him; and probably won’t work for everyone!! I think a general plant based diet (not vegan, but definitely incorporate more fruits and veggies). I see why you might say he’s elitist, but I do see why chooses the move he wants to eat; especially when avoiding things that can be bad for your health. Like micro plastics, preservatives/pesticides, factory farming, and other things. Trying to get pasture raised or organic is generally better to avoid some of these things, even though it’s very expensive; but I think if we were to choose his diet that works for him or our own diet that works for us. I’d like to try my best to avoid things as much as I can with factory farming, preservatives/pesticides, and other things in the products I buy. If I was rich or had a reasonable income, then I’d buy it all that way he does to a t for my own diet. That’s why he advocates for pasture raised.

No Abbey, it's not dangerous to not eat veggies if you don't like them. Fruits actually have a lot of antioxidants and a lot of water soluble vitamins. Meat is pretty much a nice overall profile of nutrients especially if you cycle oysters, small versions of fish and organ meat in, that's actually the holy trinity right there. I eat veggies well some, most I don't really like but you're not going to die if you don't find an alterative. This whole "force yourself to eat foods you don't like just because you think they're heathy" mentality has to go.
