Mmm ok for me it was totally different, I live in Germany and I am a size 37 european, I went to the store and I tried on the 37 and the employee told me I should size up but didn't explain so much why so I ignored her and bought them, a year later I wanted to buy another model and I went to another birkenstock store and the employee there told me the same, that usually you have to size up but this girl explained why.
The foot doesn't have to touch the edge (any edge all around!!) In front you need to have space because when you walk the foot slips to the front and the most important is in the back!! in the insole there is a "hole" where the heel has to fall, like the end of the heel has to fall in that hole, not close to the edge. So that time I bought the 38 and they feel so much better, that's why for me your size would be the 45 the 43 look way to small on the back and on the side your foot is touching the edge a lot! They shouldn't feel so close to the feet because that will cause blisters and because in almost all the birkenstock the edge is kind of high that's why you need a bit more space.

I agree. The shoe shop specialized in Birkenstock tell you that. The foot should not be on the edges or close to the edges. They can size you best. They are trained. Good idea to start off at a specialized birkenstck store when you first buy them.

I disagree! I like soft shoes and sandals like these to fit like a glove and especially around the heels to grip and walk better. I hate them too loose, you don't need to size up it depends on the wearer's preferance. I never suffer from blisters and all leather shoes stretch and get too loose, so I have to get a new pair!

@@zinniazinnia2145 It is not about what you prefer. Birkenstock aren’t supposed to be a snug fit. If your foot touches the rim of the footbed the shoe is too small and you ruin it. Further it’s is not good for your foot. There is supposed to be a 5 mm gap between the foot and the rim of the sole.

It actually says on the Birkenstock website that the “44” is size “11 to 11.5” which is confusing as hell…. I just purchased the Arizona habana soft foot bed 44s and they seem too big which sucks because I didn’t have a store to go and try them on…. Now I have to spend a lot of money again to try the 43s to see if that’s a better snug fit….

In the 39 my toes are right at the front but my heels and my arch match so I have very little breaking in period. Anyway, sometimes people will just have to try them on. As someone who use to work at a shoe store, if you have the privilege of going into the store, ALWAYS listen to the retail person. I quickly lost count of how many people would not listen and come back complaining the size is wrong. If you're flopping out of your shoe, you're wearing something too long . Most people go up because "it's hurting my sides" You need a WIDER foot bed, not longer.
    Also, leather stretches, trust me

They did not mention that they had different type of fits. I put them on walked with them maybe 15 minutes and noticed that my pinky toe and the toe next to the pinky toe keep touching the edge and it’s extremely annoying so I don’t know if I need to size up in the narrow or keep the same size and go for the regular fit?

Don’t be afraid to go narrow if you go longer and vice verse. I agree the 45 are too long. You do want a little room up front but not a ton. I have wide, low volume feet that are size 12 brannock. My foot fills the bed of the sandal but I pull the straps all the way tight, and the sandal is still a little short. So I may go up in length and bring it to a narrow size to see what happens.
Is: a size 44R may fit great in width but be too short. A size 45N may fit the same in width and give the extra length.

most of the advice you gave is just bad. You should not have the back of your foot as far back as it can go. there should be like 2 mm behind your heel. You should strap the strap closest to your toes first..... You're comparing different models AND your toes definitely hit the front on the smaller size when your toes extend. It's very clear in the video.

    • @Davidmallen429

I agree. If his foot measures 11 inches, 45 is the correct size, possibly 44, but that may be a bit small. That's according to the Birkenstock sizing video on TH-cam. You can clearly see the 43's don't fit as intended/designed. Not enough room in front or back. Too small.

This is my exact issue too. I’m not sure if my straps are too loose or if my sandals are too small. I’m usually a ladies 10.5 in sneakers, a size 42-42.5 in EU sizing. According to the Birkenstock size chart, I’m a 42 narrow which they call 11-11.5. I ordered a pair of the Arizona shearling sandals & they feel small. My toes touch the front. But I used the size chart on the box & it confirms this is my correct size. Maybe I’ll try tightening the front buckles.
