    A great way to show how easy SIPs can be installed for high performance, energy efficient roofing of small or big projects like this Habitat for Humanity Home! Who better to enjoy the benefits of a low energy bill and ultra-comfortable home than a Habitat for Humanity owner. Thanks, Extreme for sharing this and working with lower income new home owners to enjoy sustainable homes!

    First time using sips on a post and beam. I wanted to see if its something me and the book club could do. Good video.

    Hello. I am really interested in how this roof is being connected from both sides. I dont see a beam at the EDGE of both sides if the roof...

    Panel joints need to be sealed better you are going to get moisture on the seams. Check out SIPA and SIP failures in Wisconsin and Alaska due to installation errors

    Thank you for the videos. Can you further explain and detail how you address potential ridge rot?

    • @Bigrignohio
      @Bigrignohio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I assume you are talking about the rot experienced in Alaska (and other places)? That is a result of inadequate air sealing allowing moist interior air to reach the cooler exterior sheathing. A few videos back he showed the seal tape they used to prevent air/moisture migration. Combined with the mastic there should be no issues. That being said I plan on installing a vented "cold roof" over my roof panels when I finally build. This should provide a second level of protection by allowing drying to the exterior. Edit: Also see episode 15 apparently!

    I dont understand what the panel screws are securing to

    • @treystills
      @treystills 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Google User Panels are being screwed into the top plate of the interior wall that runs down the center of the building and the also into the top plate of the exterior wall.

    • @stephescobar575
      @stephescobar575 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My question was the same. They must be 18"+ screws already started way down into the panels, we are only seeing the upper 1/3rd of them sticking out.

    • @jonharris9476
      @jonharris9476 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He said that there was a interior wall. A 12 inch screw might make it to that. I don't think they know what they are doing at the moment??

    The roof appears to have no overhang on the bottom or ends. Whats up with that.

    • @bungle555
      @bungle555 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SIP panels are expensive per square foot, and there's no reason to insulate beyond the envelope. It's cheaper to just attach framed overhangs beyond the panel that aren't insulated and only serve to support the roof finish.

    • @JBe77

      BitFan there's a support beam that runs the entire length of the house that it sits on

      only monolite concrete dome shape structure can survive cat 5 tornado :) If you get hurricanes like irma with sustained winds up to 200 miles an hour pounding your home for 48 hours nothing will stand except monolite concrete structures. especially dome shaped.

      The top pieces of OSB aren't supposed to touch. They come along later and fill the gap with a 2-part foam.

      Jump to ~ 6 mins - there's a beam across the apex, and the screws are at an angle. (I think anyway!)

      The complete System is not the best. Had this from one company in germany. Closed. Not on market. We insulate with rockwool. Cellulose or woodfiber. Better insulation in summer. And what about noise reduction.

    long screws are possibly the worst way to connect roof panels to the ridge beam as there is !@!! who ever is doing the engineering needs to go back to school !!!

    I can't believe they left that much gap at the top seam, by the time they get to the far end of the ridge they will a 6in gap. They need to teach the lift operator how to lift things. What a bunch of clowns. Some kind of instruction video?

    • @Bigrignohio
      @Bigrignohio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Because it is cheaper, is available in "Jumbo" sizes and are perfectly adequate for the job?

    • @HistoricHomePlans
      @HistoricHomePlans 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If I were framing a house the conventional way I'd use plywood. But with good grade SIPS like these, they apply a special sealant to the edges of all the OSB panels to protect against moisture. It's done in the factory and it's very effective. You'll see it mentioned in one of the earlier episodes in this video series. The edges are the most vulnerable parts. After that you just want to make sure to install your doors and windows with effective waterproofing details as well. That's the next most vulnerable spot.
