      I've been binge watching old episodes of Mythbusters, lately, and counting the number of times where you must have thought:
      It doesn't get any better than this.
      A few examples:
      Rocket car
      Whip-onto-a-log-crossing across a chasm, Indiana Jones style
      Slip and Sliding onto a ramp, and flying through the air into water
      Blowing up a cement truck
      Driving up a ramp onto a truck, ala Knight Rider
      Free Fall Elevator
      Car ejection seat
      Civil war rocket
      Drifting
      McGuyver Escape room
      I could keep going for a day, and not even come close to Blue Angels or Dragon Lady. Or the experience of upside down car.

      I just watched a part of the U2 spyplane episode. Just before the plane took off, Jamie said something about how Adam had to be beaming 'right about now'.
      You see, Jamie understood that sometimes, you give an opportunity to someone else who might like it way, way, way more than you would. And that gave Jamie - a guy who doesn't outwardly express joy a lot - joy.
      You could learn from that.

    Reminds me of visiting a zoo, walked up to a tiger enclosure and this one tiger just locked eyes with me, came to the front of the enclosure and just started pacing up and down, never breaking eye contact. Never has a double-chain link fence looked so flimsy. Seeing a tiger on TV is one thing, having one stare you down from about 8 feet away gave me a whole new appreciation of the words "Apex Predator".
    Then it pressed it's ass against the fence and sprayed me with wee-wee.
    Not the most majestic end to an incredible encounter... but very few people can say they've been peed on by an Albino Tiger.

      @@jeremiahmason6127 Because launches to orbit can be detected and, once detected, can be easily tracked and times identified when they will be over sensitive areas. The U2 (and SR-71) have the advantage of taking off without notice and being over specific areas of interest without being detected. Any knowledge of the capabilities of such planes (max altitude, speed, time aloft, etc.) would degrade this advantage.

    I've only got to interact with an octopus once, at the Newport Aquarium in Oregon. I believe it was a giant pacific, but it was so long ago I can't be sure, it's mantle was bigger than my torso at the time though and I can't imagine how long it would've truly been outstretched, but at the time they had the top of the tank off and you could put your hand near the top of the tank and it would reach out and just sort of feel each person that came past, right against the glass watching everyone. Even that small experience was incredible because, like you say...man, it's weird but you when you look an octopus in the eye you KNOW it's thinking about you. Just how curious they are and how much personality they have. It's absolutely uncanny.

    I was taught that "octopi" is the singular form, and "octopus" is the plural.

    • @josephhutch4911
      @josephhutch4911 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I had been taught incorrectly about "dice" versus "die". I'm still not sure which is correct. I'm glad I can refer to the singular case by number of sides, i.e D20.
      As far as the octopus issue goes, the origin of the word is Greek, and some people applied latin rules to pluralize it, hence octopi. To avoid mixing grammars inappropriately, one should use the Greek plural, octopode, or the English plural, octopuses.

    • @limeBlender
      @limeBlender 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@josephhutch4911 Die is singular, dice is plural. A mnemonic could be to think of it as the word with more letters is the one about more objects. Or, dice has an S sound, and often an S sound at the end of a word indicates a plural form.

    • @ApocolypseZombie
      @ApocolypseZombie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's how Latin works, and since many English words are originally came from Latin, that's where the idea comes from.
      But "Octopus" isn't derived from Latin, it's derived from Greek, and the Greek plural form is "Octopodes". There comes a point though where the correct answer is "stop being pedantic about the correct form".
      www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/the-many-plurals-of-octopus-octopi-octopuses-octopodes

    • @iridiam
      @iridiam 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ApocolypseZombie Octopus isn't really from either - it's a bit of medieval English fanfiction, where they made up a name based on a mixture of Latin and Greek. In Greek, the word for octopus was polypous (πολύπους), with two accepted plurals: polypodes, and polypoi (cognate with Latin polypi and, going with the more modern octo- prefix, English octopi). Not only is there a point where the correct answer is to stop being pedantic, but both versions are perfectly acceptable from a historic standpoint. Add to that, language isn't a thing that's set in stone and defined by ISO standards, so if most people say and write octopi, that's the correct plural form.
