MOOD
Imagine shopping here.
-shelves half stocked
-lights off
-the owner is running around saying insane shit
-the clerk is staring into the void
-you grab your surprisingly under-priced groceries
-the clerk levitates your stuff into bags
-your money evaporates into thin air
-the owner immediately runs to spend it on shelves
Then you go home.
I just spit my drink. Thank you.

Welcome... to Nightvale.
@@heartofgoldfish Honestly? Same
Ive grocery shopped past midnight in NYC. This isnt even the weirdest store.
Their playthrough is a constant cycle of “it’s so over!” and “we’re so back!” This is amazing
WE’RE BANKRUPT AND LOSING THE HOUSE & BUSINESS!!!
But we also have all these empty cardboard boxes so… it’s not a totally lost cause

"and if you can't pay the loan, you can just take out another loan to pay for it"
Dan is being such a chaos demon for Arin's shop, and I love it
That is how big businesses operate though
Something I learned between last week's episode and this one. Customers literally do not want things that are under market price! I used a mod to automatically set prices every day, and out of curiosity I made it set them to 1 cent under market. Using another mod, I learned that I lost at LEAST 400 product sales a day when everything was cheap (selling 2000-2200 products a day before, but only in the 1600s when cheap). That's about $400 a day minimum that I suddenly wasn't making. I used the first mod to set things to exactly market price and my sales numbers went back to normal right away. What's more, if I overcharge by a little bit (I've set it to 1.05x market price) most customers don't care and I still sell my usual amount of products.
In conclusion: market price or slightly higher is going to make you WAY MORE MONEY than lowering the cost of things by even a penny simply due to customers not buying as many things.
we need to boost this to the top so that the people who do occasionally read the comments might mention it to the grumps in like 5-7 business months.
Yeah in my game, my prices are exactly 20 cents over market price and I very rarely get someone saying it's expensive.
Okay, I'm somewhat confused at the logic of this game. Customers buy things that are at least equal to the market price more than things that are... Cheaper?
Do people just hate cheap things in videogame world?
@@resileaf9501 It makes exactly 0 sense, but it's how the game works. 🤷🏼♀️
@@cassharrison9865 Even at 1.05x market price I only get around a dozen complaints a day, but I'm selling 2500+ products so a dozen is practically nothing

It needs to be Dan and Arin driving a hot rod while Arin goes Ape shit on a bottle of Pasta juice
Lol wait, have we not discovered yet the reason Arin has no money is because the man on his shoulder, in his ear told him to take out many, many loans. To also buy a freezer before he had a license for it. Who told him to hire a cashier and now to fire him. And then sits back and laughs with that adorably infectious laugh that you just can't help but to laugh along with it as Arin blows his top about not having money and wondering where it went. That man on Arin's shoulder and in his ear is Dan...it's Dan 😂😂😂😂
I just came here to comment this, when I heard Dan say “….. you should take out another loan” I was like, wow he really could be your angle 📐 or your devil 😈 😭😅
@Penguina_11 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Have you watched the newest one? Dan gets worse 🤣. Listen, I think at times, and I know he also still looks out for Arin's well-being and does try to make him stress less, but at times, he enjoys watching Arin freak out just like the rest of us lmao.
Arin "I DON'T HAVE MONEY!" Hanson descending further into his panic as he buys a 5th box of water for no reason: Why do I keep losing money when I buy more product than I sell in a day?! This is bullshit!
Arin math is when a box holds 8 of something, he needs 9 of them, so he buys 3 boxes of it.
To be fair they dont go bad, so its fine
@@TheArachnoBot yes, but when he spends more than necessary on products, that's taking away money that he could be saving up to pay off his loans early and ultimately save more money. It doesn't really help that people buy 20 bags of cheese in a day because Arin refuses to charge more than market price, forcing him to restock even more often.
@@randomperson8375 yeah i think we're past that. Dan literally convinced him to take a second loan when he had 350 dollars. My point was that him buying a box or two extra isnt that catastrophic.
@@randomperson8375 Yeah but in reality that doesn't really even matter because he still makes a profit on it, even if it's slightly less than he could make.
Really he's doing fine other than time management. He spends 3/4 of the day sitting on his register to help like 7 people, all of which his cashier could handle even though he does move slowly. And when he's not on register he's in a constant panic about restocking things but prioritizes it based on "whatever he just looked at in the last 2 seconds" rather than what has the lowest stock.
But that's half of why this series is so much fun to watch lol
This playthrough is pure Grumps and I'm here for it.
In classic Arin fashion- seeing his shelves are empty, and using the last of his money to buy a storage room to store all his lack of supplies.- How he runs a successful business irl is something scientists will never understand.

Grumps Grocery! Where you wait in line for an hour while a half-dead Roy checks people out and the two owners scream at each other in the background
It's worth it to save those $0.18 off market value!
That unnecessary freezer, storage rack, and second checkout counter really coming back to bite Arin days later
No such thing as unnecessary storage and the second checkout is perfect if the cashier gets clogged
It's really the loans he took out to get them. It made sense when they were gonna make just a few episodes, but now that they're doing more, they should probably slow down.
Fun fact: Expanding too quickly is one of the most common reasons businesses fail
At least 2 of those decisions were fueled by Dan too 😂
You know you can actually pack those up and sell them.. And if you want to break the game, pack up the checkout counter, and reload the game, and they give you another one for free! Within minutes, your rolling in dough! Literally..
The freezer especially, not sure what you put in that when it seems like you need to be lvl90 just to buy frozen goods
This syore hasn't actually expanded in like, 4 episodes.
It's just gotten bigger. We went from one shelf with six items on it, to six shelves with one item each.
It's hilarious and maddening.
Expand your damn inventory Arin!
He can't afford the licence for ice cream 😢
Arin: sells 1 package of cheese
Also arin: oh no, better buy three boxes of cheese!
Also Arin: out of coffee and running low on other items that are frequently sold.
Arin: “These are so expensive!!!”
Arin: Proceeds to buy 1 case, a bunch of other stuff. And then panics again when a customer can’t find coffee.
When Arin told Dan _"Talkin Daddy drinkin pastaaa!"_ I was laughing out loud so much I just said to myself _"So, would Daddy rather have a Martini or some Tortelliniiii?"_
Tortell-tini.
The sheer and total lack of organization and planning both enrages and entertains me.

Roy is there 8am - 9pm every day, of course he's going to be a little slow. He's exhausted. He's working 91 hour work weeks with no breaks on $6.16./hr for cryin' out loud.
Poor Roy. He never gets to see his Totally Real Family because he spends so much time trying to make money for Totally Real Food for them to eat 😢
And that's not factoring the insane OT. Based on average OT of 1.5x hourly wage, he's making $4.80 an hour
Idk how far in advance they film these, but I think it might be helpful to move roy’s counter behind arin’s so arin gets the bulk of the path finding. They just go to the counter that’s closest, not the one with less of a queue.
......holy crap, I never realized that, but you're so right.
the "daddy likes drinking pasta" bit starts this off HIGH
Pro tip: you can totally price products above market price, I've found 10-15% to be the sweet spot for most products. You will get a slight penalty in XP for the customers to say it's too expensive, but a lot of people will still buy it and you'll make a handsome profit. Love the series!
It seems to me like XP isn't even all that big a priority compared to making a profit tbh. Just take it slow and accumulate wealth so that you don't have to take out loans and go into panic mode paying off your debt, and along the way you'll get more than enough XP to keep expanding and unlocking new products. Of course, that's just me guessing here, I've never actually played the game. You'll have to let me know if I'm even close to accurate with that assumption lol
@@randomperson8375 you're pretty much exactly right, you'll still gain XP, might not be as fast, but still. Profit is king, especially for Arin who has a lot of stuff he doesn't need like freezers lol. I didn't buy a freezer until level 40 something because there's no need until you get the license. He should just sell it
i love how he's so obsessed with keeping the shelves stocked that he panics when the coffee is popular and tries to close the store
"I don't need this! I could be drawing a bath!" -- This is my favorite series
As someone who has to manage, stock and serve the deli department by themselves at a supermarket, this game is so accurate. Customers want to buy something when you’re not at the counter, but when you are there is no one around. The running and panic is real 😂
I work retail. I swear whenever I’m busy at the opposite end of the store or whenever I need to use the computer for something that is when there’s a customer. And then it looks like I was ignoring them if I’m doing something at the other end of the store but really I had my back turned for two seconds.
Dan is chaotic evil in this series.
A: "What do you mean, I'm 2700 dollars in debt?? You're the one who told me to get a 750 dollar loan!!"
D: "Yeah, I know!!"
A: God that's so much money
D: Yeah, that's rough... But if you take out a loan... Next time on Game Grumps 😂

@@Cee1019 After years of Wheel of Fortune torturing him, Dan's sick of being the only one to go bankrupt!
The joke about the camo pants reminded me of a family event. Every time we'd try past this Jeep dealer my mom would be like "Look at that camo jeep!" For like 2 months my brother would reply "What truck?" Mom finally was like "Just turn and look! It's right there! How do you never look?!" And he just slowly looks at her and says "I'm making a joke about the camo."
I remember Dan joking when they both saw a camo-textured wall in Super Mario Galaxy (2?)
"...Wait, what wall?"
I need to see this grocery store grow into a digital walmart sized empire that monopolizes chocopik and cheese
Things i wish someone would tell Arin about this game:
The more products(as in variety not quantity) you have, the more people will buy. You need to get more licenses and keep less of the same thing out. 2 boxes of each product out should be enough.
There is definitely no overtime pay. In fact I never actually flip the closed, just restock what i have and end the day and its always on closed in the morning.
You want to have at least a little bit of everything you've got a license for out on the shelves. If one of the shoppers is going through their preset list of items and gets to something that is not out on shelves, they will immediately go to checkout and skip any other items remaining on the list.
Never end a day before everyone checks out. You will lose the product they've picked up.
People are supposed to buy more product if the prices are lower and less if overpriced, but it doesn't seem to be working well for you. Id suggest you bring it closer to market price and just round to your preferred denomination. I go to the nearest dime so I only have to enter one decimal place on the card machine.
Boxes can be closed to stack better.
Caveat: I've only played the ps4 version so some of these might not actually be applicable.
Love the series. Hope you guys keep it going.
In like two days, the grumps buy a whole new storage room, fill a shelf to the ceiling with excess goods, pay off a substantial portion of their debt, fully restock with a couple hundred dollars left, and then say they're doing poorly??? My guys you are growing in assets greatly.
well you see, if all you're ever focused on are empty spaces on the shelves and needing to by three times the product to fill them, you're going to melt down and panic about everything
I think you're missing the fact that all of it (or at least most) was purchased with loans that he still owes to the bank. But I'm still here for it because let's be honest... relatable.

Unexpected challenger approaches!
Being on opposite sides of the same digital road would be a great multiplayer mod.
Dude that would be awesome. Them playing it at the same time separately and trying to one up each other xD
Dan would definitely win by not using 4 entire shelf spaces for every product, not buying freezers and storeroom shelves he can't use, not over buying every product, not taking unnecessary loans and forgetting to pay them back early, actually buying product licenses to diversify his stock, and not doing things on baseless assumptions like closing before customers stop coming. Basically, Dan won't suck at video games.

At the start of this series, I thought these would be nice chill episodes I could start my day with. Now I'm yelling at the screen because Arin keeps buying more product than he needs while he's in debt as he's losing it, wondering where all his money's going. Looking forward to the next episode.
Same. Either Arin is doing this for the bit, or he's gonna look back at these once it's all said and done and feel like a fool for how he played this game. idk which one of those would make it funnier, but I'm looking forward to future episodes regardless because this is both frustrating and hysterical.
The only problem I have with how Arin plays is that he still does everything before the day starts.
Once you get your Roy you just let him do the selling, then you get a restocker guy and you just buy what's missing during the day, the way he plays each day takes in real time three times more than it should take.
You only ever bother with your own register end of day to make it faster.
It's crazy how long they are stuck at low levels in terms of real time.
I'm loving this lol. Just hilariously failing his way through
@@blueplayer6197 Lol I fired my restocker because consolidating boxes apparently isn't part of the game, so I wound up being like "JUST LET ME DO IT!" It wastes so much space on the storage shelves when there are four boxes of chocolate bars, each with 1-7 bars in them. >_<
That said, I was marveling today at how long I take to do things before/after the work day because I'm too particular about things like that.
@@pupcakeninja I lost my mind only having one of them because people would buy more stock than he can put up during the day, never encountered the issue you are talking about because both shelves you describe are effectively in need for restocking so when you see that the restocker just didn't get there yet, once I had a restocker I dropped my shelves to 2 of each (had 3 ea prior) thing and I'd spend most of the day running like a headless chicken between the computer and the street and the storage room just getting more and more boxes and occasionally screaming at the restocker to do things faster because people complained they can't find things.
I feel like once you are up to 2 cashiers and 2 restockers you are mostly fine but then it's also when you realise they need to add an inventory guy who restocks the storage room.
I never bother working before the day starts or after the last customer leaves, it's less money for sure but it's much faster money per hour of play.
Really wanted to become a do nothing manager but I feel like I ended up being demoted to warehouse restocker.

the funniest part is that he tried MULTIPLE TIMES to shift all of it to one unified shelf, but then he forgot every single time and restocked the wrong sections

@@burnin8able I think the idea is that you buy items in large bulks so that you only get a single fee of 2 dollars.
Not that 2 dollars per order is particularly responsible for Arin's (mostly imagined) financial woes.
@@resileaf9501 ah, yeah that makes more sense
@burnin8able shipping cost is $2 for 1 to 3 items, $4 for 4 to 6, and $8 for 6 to 10. This works out to .66 cents a box for 3 or 6 items, up to $2 a box for one item. It seems a small price difference, but paying 2x to 3x for shipping adds up. Especially when you are also selling things below market price, when you can actually sell them for 5% to 10% above with little downside.

Oh my god you're right
My only exposure to Cheers was during high school. There was an Albanian foreign-exchange student in our class, and our math teacher would occasionally sing "🎶Albania, Albania, you border on the Adriatic🎶" throughout the school year. On the last day, he finally explains the reference and comes in with a box set of Cheers. He plays a part of an episode where one guy is explaining how to memorize facts by turning them into songs, so for Albania, he sings "🎶Albania, Albania, you border on the Adriatic🎶".
Now that that memory is unlocked, the Albania song is stuck in my head.
May this series never end

“We used to make so much money, what happened?!” (paraphrasing). You left the store open past 9pm lmao STOP CLOSING THE STORE. ROY DOESN’T GET PAID OVERTIME.
The daddy drinking pasta bit was my favorite part
"What is that, mold?"
"It's black mold!"
how topical considering the JKR discourse LMAO
okay ive never played the game BUT I am so incredibly convinced that customers path finding starts before they enter the store, meaning where they go to checkout depends on what registers are open at the point they spawn. when Arin closes the register every time he leaves, the game responds by changing the path finding of any customers who were going to come to his register back to the first available one (Roy). The customer's path finding only changes if something changes with it, but it does not make in the moment choices (go to other checkout that just opened because there is a line). this is also a wild guess because I don't code
Arin "I CAN'T RUN a BUSSINESS!"
Arin irl runs a business.
Multiple businesses.
I wish simulator games had an online option ! Imagine you and like 3 of your friends just running a grocery store 😂
Cheers theme song made a small resurgence because of Adventure Time (but tbh it's just a really catchy song)
And How it Should Have Ended uses a similar theme for The Villain Pub.
I Imagine Roy sweating while the two owners of the store talk about firing him.
You can sell the freezer. Arin, sell the freezer. ARIN YOU CAN SELL THE FREEZER!!!!
Is he going to sell it full price or is it going to give him less than what he paid for it? If less, might as well keep it.
@@resileaf9501 less, but he's like half a lifetime away from buying freezer products.
Hey Arin I thought I should warn you about a free money glitch that you should definitely not do. It's the one where you box up all your cash registers then save and exit the game. When you reload, a new one will spawn for Roy which you can box up and sell for $250. This can be repeated indefinitely and would fix all your money problems, so you should definitely not do this!
legitimately don't, it would ruin the series
miu iruma talks about drinking pasta for 5 minutes is my favorite game grumps bit
Turns out this is the long series we always wanted
