Sanderson fans are so passionate not just because of the stories but for how transparent and engaged with the audience he is. Nobody would expect an author so busy to do weekly updates and certainly not post college lectures for free. An author of the people.
@ I think this last one is really broke the camels back. know he wants to write this 10 book epic saga of his own and I support that but it is just not a good book on any level. Must also admit I'm not a super fan and read everything he writes but after I've read wind and truth really wanted to test myself and re read Misborn and like wow it's so much better. That's why I compared it to music because feeling I have. Think he needs to trim it down because if this series continue like this I'm out. gave it 3 stars on goodreads but it's probably lover.
Thank you Brandon and the Dragonsteel team for listening to the community about the Story Deck cards. We're all passionate about this and really appreciate you taking the extra time to help us finish our stories!
Storydeck was a blast - all things considered. I really think you’ve got a winning idea and really hope you can do more with it. Heck - I think you can do a Chasm Friends web series/Tv show.
Thank goodness theyre working on solving the storydeck issue. I was SO CLOSE to completing my collection at the con but those higher number cards were so hard to find for everyone
I think that if you attended Nexus, then you should be able to add a note to your next order from Dragonsteel saying 1 or 2 story cards that you are missing and they can throw those in with your next order.
That wouldn't work; they aren't selling the cards individually, they're coming from the manufacturer in those packs. At best they might sell packs that are more likely to contain them than not.
@@Nexol13 they don't have to sell the packs with these newly printed sheets. They can open them and divvy them up. There is nothing forcing Dragonsteel to sell these packs.
Hi! Congrats on the very creative effort you have put together as "story cards" 🎉 My first impression on it, having viewed most of your lectures available online, was that it was this sort of card collection that could creatively be used to help writers get practice on writing exercises, like providing a theme, a small prologue idea, a plot hook, and other items that may be present in a story, or to provide small writing challenges to writers to practice on, in order to help make a fun, out of the box experience to enrich or even expand upon one's writing style and use of writing tools. Just a concept I'd like to leave for you, in case the idea sticks and can help in your engagement/educational projects.
The story deck trading at Dragonsteel last year was super intense. I thought it would take me like an hour to find three full stories in standard print. But I'm still waiting on two of them...Hopefully will have money for the ends of Lopen and Chasmfiends.
Thanks to you, your team and to BYU for sharing your lectures again. I have no interest/drive to write, but love the ability to virtually "audit" the class.
StoryDeck is a fantastic idea for conventions, but I think you also have a great product on your hands; story trading cards could be the next evolution after TCGs since baseball cards. I really, really appreciate you working to keep secondary market costs down, too! I couldn't make it to dragonsteel, but I'd like to pick up a box of cards if they remain available! As for the accidental rares, I think if you released them as promo blisters that would be really natural! Sell them bundled with a booster pack or two, then anyone who is missing them can just buy them from you at a reasonable price. However you do it, I'm so glad to see how the community has enjoyed this project!
Regarding story deck, I was lucky to finish the stories, just not the hearlds or the alternate story cards. Would love to complete the collection one day.
Thank you for recognizing the rarity issue and for doing something about it. Here's a thought: - create 'rare card' packs with only the cards that have been unintentionally rare. - send a 3 pack of them to everyone who attended Nexus or bought a full box of cards. Put the rest for sale in the store.
Thank you! If there's a way you could bundle all of the cards that ended up on these rare sheets together that would be great. Thank you for following up on the situation. It was our first con and we definitely got a bit hung up on finding the cards so missed out on some other programming.
He spent the winter he'd set aside for it prioritizing a brand new thing instead, so there could be a new short story collection this year. He got pre-writing done but is going to focus on Mistborn now, and will probably work on it gradually when he needs a break from that.
Looking forward to jumping into StoryDeck, it's such a cool idea! Couldn't make it to DSN this year but hopefully next year, and can do some trading then 🙏
I have a box of Storydeck coming in the mail, since geography doesn't let me attend Cons, so I'm real curious to see how I do rarity wise. I'm thrilled you're gonna be keeping a hold on the seconary market though, the worst part of being a card collector is finding out there's card(s) you realistically will never get, and it sounds like you're gonna try and stop that happening which is great.
Cards are overvalued being printed to decrease their value and then distributed to the players. I wish other card games did that!!!! Thank you. This is awesome.
The heralds in particular should probably be reprinted specifically and just sold as a set outside of the booster packs... Heralds 7, 8 and 9 simply do not exist. Bought 2 full displays and not a single copy in sight. Got some of the others upwards of a dozen times.
On the StoryDeck front, I received my box today and have sorted through them this evening (my cats were NOT impressed at the lack of attention they got) and one thing I found particularly annoying was finding duplicate cards *within the individual packs*. There was one pack where I got 3 of the same card (not shinies, not nonsense cards, just 3 of the same number of the same story with no variation) and several with 2 of the same card or two sets of two cards, which felt like it was taking the piss a little. I was expecting that from a full box I'd come up a few cards short, and I came up 10 cards short in total (not counting nonsense cards and shinies) so those intra-pack duplicates stung a *lot*. Now to try to find people on the same continent as me to trade with so that postage costs don't get extortionate (ideally the same island as me, but I'm not holding my breath on that front).
Thanks Brandon + Team for helping vs the rare cards market. Anything that can be done for people who already paid 100$ of a box recently after having 80-90% from con and still do not have multiple rare cards?
Suggestion: If it were me, I'd correct the rarity disparity (hey, that rhymes!) by first making sure the cards are being printed correctly now, with no rare sheets. Then, I would calculate how many of each card is "missing" by doing the math on the number of runs so far with the rare sheet in and have those printed so I could offer a "rare pack" on the Dragonsteel store, which would be one of each "rare" card with potential to be foil or non-foil (of course, keeping the ratios of the original print in mind). I'd also limit it to say, 5 per customer at most? That way everyone can get theirs and people who want all foil can have a chance at that. This would also ensure that the cards aren't shuffled around and you get two of Lopan 50 and none of Jasnah 51, for example. All three missing heralds and the last, what was it, 6 cards of each story? Those would all be in each pack, with foil versions sprinkled in randomly.
So they aren't actually producing more cards rn. They did a single run for Nexus and have a limited (but so far not exhausted) amount of extra boxes up for sale.
@dustinhiatt3835 makes it easy then. Have enough printed that it equals the other cards and sell them as a single set so no matter which ones a person was missing they can finish. They'll be common enough on the market then that you can trade them 1 for 1 with any other.
well for sure part of it is due to poor mixing of the cards at packaging. in three packs i received multiple sequential doubles. (i.e lopen 3,4 & 5 in order twice in the same pack). Not sure what happened there. i was not thinking i would get a whole story in 3 packs, but i was surprised by how many dupes i got.
I really hope this includes the high harolds as someone with none of the 7-9. I'm a bit worried though worried, though, because Brandon seems a lot more concerned about the stories. I highly doubt they'll inject more foils and nonsense in, especially considering the packs have a set ratio of (intentionally) rare cards printed on them.

Yeah the cards are available to purchase off the dragonsteel website, just wondering if they'll be accessible outside the deck.
