NOTE: This is a re-upload from last year. The first video had copyright issues, so I had to replace a music track from the movie with an in-game track. I hope you'll enjoy the video nontheless.
I used to laugh while my mom yelled and raged at this game! I even showed this video too her and she said that just watching it was making her angry and giving her PTSD! 😂
Thank you for bringing back this childhood trauma. 😅 I totally remember the elephant swinging, the waterfall and the stampede... That game was a nightmare. 😵
What can I say? You’ve once-again described my childhood. I could never defeat Scar and yes it wasn’t until my 30s when I played the game on Xbox when it was released with Aladdin that I did. No TH-cam or easily accessible walkthroughs back in the day haha. Thanks Ax for another fantastic video
Haha, at least you got to Scar! That's pretty damn impressive. I never made it beyond the second level back then 😅 Thanks Danny, I really appreciate it!
I never got to play as adult Simba. NEVER. One of the most frustrating games ever! If my parents only knew they would’ve let me play Mortal Kombat instead (which I did anyway in secret because I was so pissed at the Lion King I just wanted to play something easier 😂).
Neither did I 😫 Only many years later, when I was an adult, did I get to see something else than the first two levels in this game. Hahaha, somehow Mortal Kombat is more appropriate for children than The Lion King and it's hellish difficulty! 😂
I grew up with the DOS version in my childhood. I found out that you don't need to grab the rhino tails after the first ostrich section, you can just grab the hippo's ear and skip that section of the level. The waterfall in Hakuna Matata was indeed notorious. I did manage to get up the waterfall by easily by memorising the log patterns, but jumping on the logs that sank at the bottom was impossible for me to overcome. Kifo Mtego would have been a more appropriate name for the jungle level, which translates to Death Trap. I could never finish the final because like you I didn't have a manual that would tell me the throwing combo, so I was stuck hitting Scar infinitely.
What, really!? You can skip the rhinos!? I had no idea 😂 I'll check that out later. And yes! Kifo Mtego would have been a lot more suitable name. Imagine Timon and Pumba singing that to Simba instead 😂
I grew up playing games in the 80's, those were hard times!. Arcades were brutal and home computer games were equally as hard, 3 lives, 3 continues, if you were lucky and usually no saves.
Oh yes!!! Rayman is without question one of the hardest games I ever played as a kid. It's similar to The Lion King in the sense that it looks kid friendly, but isn't. I remember the music-themed levels being particularly evil.
OMG, that video made me laugh. 😂 Me & my childhood friend had a love-hate-relationship with this game...I didn't count how many hours...days we spent on trying to complete it and how many times we dropped the gamepad in rage. My boyfriend and I started playing it again lately for nostalgic reasons and we completely freaked out, before we even made it to the final level. 😅This game is one of the most cruel and unfair games ever made...and yes...THAT WATERFALL!😂👿 Thanks for this video.❣
I loved what you said about the 2 things that marked your childhood, the Disney renaissance movies and video games. Because that's exactly what it was for me! Lara Croft and the 90's Disney movies were my childhood. The first VHS tapes I got were The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, on my 3rd birthday in 1993. And I met Lara Croft in 1996, a 6-year-old kid. And that was it! It starts... (to quote Timon)
Haha, cheers! And thank you for sharing! I guess a lot of us kids who grew up in the 90's have similar stories. Those were amazing years to be a kid in, am I right?
Bro The Lion King game was so good. I don't remember if I ever beat it but the Simba cub waterfall level + blasting Blues Traveler in 1995 was the vibe.
Disney specifically ordered the developers to make the game difficult to prevent people from renting it and beating it. The developers later apologized for the difficulty, since it wasn't their decision.
This damn game. It and Tiny Toons: Buster's Hidden Treasure drove me up the wall with their difficulty. Lion King ramps it up faster which is immediately frustrating while Tiny Toon does it more slowly, but with the latter you think you're doing well and then suddenly it's like the game laughs at you for ever even thinking that. If you haven't played it, I recommend giving it a try. You'll probably beat it easily with your talents, but just imagine a seven-year-old trying to do the same. It was such a pain!
I have been recommended to check out this game before (was it you?) and it indeed looks crazy! What was it with games that seemed kid friendly on the outside, but then were just evil on the inside??
Buster Busts Loose and Animaniacs were also a nightmare! It's so weird how hand-holdy games are now. We used to just keep at it and at it and at it until we beat it. Kinda want to go back and play them with years more gaming under my belt and see if they're any easier :D
The only good thing about having played this game as a child is that this game created a brotherhood of bitter and broken adult men and women that all share the same childhood trauma. It's a sacred bond.
As a child I loved this game. I didn’t recall all of these nightmarish moments before watching this video. I only remembered that the volcano level was extremely hard. Traumas are instantly reactivated by watching this! 😆
Nice video, I was fascinated by this game as a kid, even though I didn't own it - we rented it a few times. I never understood why my parents didn't/wouldn't buy it... but then I realized it was because it was too damn hard! Weirdly I don't remember them spending too long on I Just Can't Wait to Be King, but I do remember my dad being up late into the night trying to beat the stampede. The only other thing I remember is my mom struggling for an eternity with the cave maze in Simba's Return. I think that was the day before we had to take the game back? Either way, my parents never met Scar. I went on to really play the game for myself as an adult and really enjoyed it for the most part, but I was also cheating my ass off using save states on an emulator. But to be fair, even then it was damn hard. I especially remember the boulders in Simba's Exile kicking my ass. Tomb Raider III looks at this game and says "Hey, I think you should ease up on the difficulty a little".
What an awesome memory of your parents playing the game. I wish my parents were into video games back then. If you Mom got all the way to the maze level, she must've been pretty damn good at the game! And yes, the game is really enjoyable, in spite of the difficulty. I still think it's one of the most beautiful video games ever. Hahaha, that last part is so true! 😂
This video game.. 😫 I never got past the second level as a kid. Even now as an adult, I know I still wouldn't be able to do it! Will always love the movie, but may never touch that game again! 😂
@@AxMania I can see having watched your video that it was the same game just worse graphics, no colour, and screen that you couldn't see during the day :D I also remember the stampede section was a bird's-eye view, and the monkeys that throw you didnt have a feature to change direction. Probably some more minor differences but otherwise like-for-like.
As a kid in the '90s, I never thought of games being too difficult. I just thought I was a total n00b, and I frankly was, heh. It never let it frustrate me enough to ditch the game; I thought I just needed to git gud or get help so I could enjoy more of the game. I remember spending half of my summer on beating TR3's Nevada demo on the PS1. It was a good first impression for the series, tho, and the complete TR3 became one of my coveted games.
Yeah, I didn't get this perspective on The Lion King until adulthood, because ad a kid, I didn't understand the concept of "unfair game design" or whatever. I just loved the graphics and all that.
Along with Aladdin (Megadrive) and Mickey Mania, for some reason Disney games were just pushed the max in terms of difficulty. Weirdly it only seems to be the Western developed games. The Capcom games were usually quite breezy.

I never played a Lion King video game, but I did watch the 3 classics from Disney. If I had to choose between this game and Simba's Mighty Adventure, I'll choose the later, it's less hard and there are several parts of the 2 films as cutscenes

Crash Bandicoot 4 was HELL. But it was... fun hell? It was really addicting and satisfying to conquer. The waterfall in The Lion King is just misery. That's awesome, btw!
I have this on Sega Mega Drive and Sega Master System. The former is the same game but with an oversight that makes the second level easier, and the latter has more appropriate game design in the context of its target audience. The NES version is hilariously awful. 😂
I genuinely think Lion King is more frustrating than games like Demon's Souls and Bloodborne 😅 FromSoftware games are very hard, but as long as you play carefully and well, you'll advance. Lion King is HELL if you don't use cheat codes.

Crash Bandicoot 4 was HELL. But it was... fun hell? It was really addicting and satisfying to conquer. The waterfall in The Lion King is just misery. That's awesome, btw!

I really need to get to actually completing Crash 4 maybe not until middle of 2025 but it's not anytime soon.
the only way I was able to beat this game as a kid was with the cheat code B-A-R-R-Y to give max lives
Haha, I didn't even know that. Why BARRY, I wonder? 🤔
@@AxMania idk either lol, that's just the button sequence
I have this on Sega Mega Drive and Sega Master System. The former is the same game but with an oversight that makes the second level easier, and the latter has more appropriate game design in the context of its target audience.
The NES version is hilariously awful. 😂
Yeah, it's funny how different each port is. The NES version is indeed terrible 😂 It's crazy they still made ports for the NES in 1994!!!

@@fictionalmediabully9830 Even crazier! 😂
I beat that game as a kid!
Impressive! 👏 I got to the second level... 😂
No tomb raider then
Soon, I promise.
Dark souls got nothing on this game
Fact!
Not easy but not soulslike level too. Alladin probably slightly harder. Pocahontas. It's not even Dysney's hardest game on Sega.
I genuinely think Lion King is more frustrating than games like Demon's Souls and Bloodborne 😅 FromSoftware games are very hard, but as long as you play carefully and well, you'll advance. Lion King is HELL if you don't use cheat codes.
Crazy😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hey this is not the Tomb Raider 3 platinum video 🤨
It's coming, I promise, but it'll take a while. Sorry.
