I watched in Sydney. Great theme and a great voice the guy had. Perfect fit. I cried at the end of each show. I'm getting a little misty watching again now.
I watched The Littlest Hobo in afternoon reruns as a kid, and although nearly 50 years have passed, I STILL consider this my favorite TV show of all time.
Great episode. Rediscovering this show is like running back into an old friend. The theme song lyric "A-drifting, the world is my friend" and London walking down the railroad track have stuck with me for years.
I find adventure everywhere, and friends with whom I like to share. This is my stop along the way. Don't really know how long I'll stay. Stop over . . . might make a new friend . . . Stop over . . . along the road . . . without end . . . Travellin' around from town to town . . . Sometimes I think I'll settle down. But I know I'd hunger to be free; Roving's the only life for me. A driftin' . . . the world is my friend . . . I'm travellin' . . . along the road . . . without end.
I used to watch this as a kid in Australia in the mid to late 60s. I remember really enjoying it, and finding the end credits (the theme song, and the dog moving on) very poignant.
Cagey, It was broadcast each week day afternoon on Channel 9 around 4:30 or 5pm in 1968. We only had black n white tv reception back then so it was welcomed to see this episode in color. Brings back good chilshood memories near on 50 years ago. Thanks for this.
Thanks Pat. You have a good memory! That would fit in with when I would have watched it as a 9 year old. I wonder if it was repeats, or it took that long to get to Australia from Canada.
Yes i do recall it was on repeat for several years. I was always fascinated with the good deeds and perception of this dog. If only a series like this was made for today's youth. Thanks for responding mate.
A few observations about this "Littlest Hobo" episode: Note the TTC streetcar (indicating this was filmed in Toronto) in the background as Sam is having his accident ticket written out by the cop. And lastly, I wonder if that's a Canadian styled Pontiac convertible that Sam's driving.
so many memories love to see this again.came on local tv in columbus on thurs nites.omg what a great flash back thanks r ickey mcchargue.ps think i am one of a few who remember the original series.so sad folks nowadays missed seeing so many good shows of the 60's.
I had never heard of this show until yesterday, even though I grew up in a city with the CBC.. All I remember of Canadian TV was a game show or two and something called the BeachCombers. Oh, and i guess there was one about a high school too, tho I forgot the name. This hobo seems to have been a good show. Thanks for posting it.
Wow. I didn't realize that the Littlest Hobo in the early 1860s. Between those episodes from the 60s and late 70s early 80s they are most enjoyable to watch!
Thank you so much for posting this. I had been looking for a recording of the theme song for years, so I was blown away to get to watch a full episode. This was my favorite show back when I was nine or ten, so it's great to see it again after more than 50 years!
+ahitchcox ............100% AGREE with all you say! cheers!........I've been looking for original 1960's episodes like this "Blind Witness" for many decades even before the WWW, not only because the acting seems to be better than newer episodes, but only the originals like this have the nicest theme song tune, and lyrics...........wish they didn't change it
+BEE VEE ..........today is the FIRST time in over 50 years that I've managed to see an "original" series(1963) as on the IMBD site, even tho I see the the 1958 listing, I spent hours trying to view an episode with no luck. In desperation, I tried YOU TUBE and got "Silent Witness" and I'm fully "stoked" as fell in love with "London" again ! My highest respect goes to London and his Trainer..........My favourite Canine show of all time........ Rin Tin Tin is a very close second!...(was the young boy in RTT called Masters or was it his guardian?)
+BEE VEE The young boy was called Rusty B, the dog Rin Tin Tin was called Master Rinny :) I remember Rusty would call out Yo ! Rinny when he wanted the dog to go ahead of the troupe during the episode.
The dog-actor in the 60's serial - THE LITTLEST HOBO" - was named London by his owner. Whereas the second dog-actor who starred in the 70's and 80's - "THE NEW LITTLEST HOBO" - was in fact London's grandson, also named London.
They toured the states in the mid 60's doing promotional shows at shopping centers. Did a few stunts and short tricks ! I still have my 8x10 glossy :-)
I only remember the early episodes. Maybe the ones made in the 70s weren't shown on british tv. but it's so good to see it again and to hear the original theme tune and song sung by the guy with the rich voice. Happy days!
Thanks for posting this :) I loved The original Littlest Hobo used to watch it when I was young :) It was screened on ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission) Government TV Station in Melbourne Victoria Australia in the 1960s. This was a much better show than the 1980's remake !
+dinomate01 I'm also from Melbourne Australia and I also remember watching this show on ABC. If I remember correctly it was on before school. Just love humble shows. It was something only of that era. When I see the young ones today and see the nonsensical violence packed with CGI and no heart or depth. I think no wonder people don't watch TV. Big Brother and other reality shows. What's happened to the world.
+reticulan5 I think I remember seeing this broadcast on the ABC at possibly 5.00 or 5.30 pm Saturdays or Sundays. My mother didn't allow us to watch TV before school. I think it was in the afternoon as we used to also watch The Banana Splits & My Favourite Martian around those times :)
dinomate01 Hi Dino you maybe right or I saw the repeats. The ABC was funny that way. With me it was the other way. Weren't allowed to watch TV till homework was finished. But okay to eat brekky watching tV. Yes remember Banana Splits (Ta Lal i Boom te yeah LOL). Same with My favourite Martian. When I watched that one. I remember Uncle Martin's anteena's going out from his head and i would hide behind the couch for those shots. Today of course small kids watch slashers, people dismembered and are not phased one bit. Growing up then was fun hey. Tell me since we seem to grow up in the same era. Do you remember a series on the ABC I think it was British. These kids went under their house and there was this doorway cave like entrance under their house where these small beachball like creatures lived. Every episode had the kids go to this other world dimension and escape back. I have been racking my brain to find it. No one else remembers it. Even the kids who watched it we'd talk about it at lunchtime at school the next day. But a year or 2 after no one remembered it. I guess I grew old but never grew up.
+reticulan5 I don't remember seeing the show you are talking about, was it shown in the morning or afternoon ? I will do some research :) It may have been British, Australian, or Scandinavian. Do you own the two volumes of The Littlest Hobo that are available on DVD from Amazon (Is that where this episode came from ?) I liked Catweazle too that was also on the ABC.
dinomate01 The series I mentioned was British for sure. it was made at a time when the trend was to make paranormal, multi dimensional like shows for kids. Just remember these creatures that were in another world and around the entrance underneath these kids house. I'm going on 42-45 year old memories of the show. But the creatures were kind of like the Horta from Star Trek only much smaller. I suspect the BBC had covered latex and growth over a beachball or something like that and may have just pulled it along to simulate chasing the kids. As I mentioned it scared the hell out of me as a little kid. Never forgot about the show. Yes remember Catweazle John Pertree alias Dr Who. There was 1 episode where a boy brought him bread and cheese and Catweazle was so delighted. I had a craving and I went to mum and asked could I have bread and cheese. I'll be getting Littlest hobo on DVD. Just ordered the full 3 seasons of Lost In Space on Blu ray. My email is rickidaksgrips@gmail.com
Same story, different details but who cares. There is nothing like the eyes of a dog to take you apart and put you together again. They can make you feel more guilty than sin itself. Gotta love um. Thanks!!!!!!!

Kerry Elliott Amazon has a DVD collection but it seems to only be 12 episodes from this 1963 series. That's all that's out there so far. There's a volume 1 and 2 with red covers, and a separate volume 1 with a blue cover. Some comments on Amazon say that the blue cover version has all the episodes from both vol. 1 and 2 with red covers. So just get the version with the blue cover.
Mason Meomartini I checked the running time on the set with the blue cover because I was going to order this too. It says 300 minutes. And each volume with the red covers say 150 minutes. So it does seem that the version with the blue cover has all the episodes from vol. 1 and 2.
+cruiseylee He's a sprit dog. I never saw any of them until now and I'm 67. He surely had a great human and trainer. Can you just imagine how wonderful his life was to play such a role? I loves da dawgs!
This particular episode was filmed at least partly in South Etobicoke - Mimico, specifically. The bad guy’s house is right around the corner from mine :-)
I like Hobo. Please post more episodes. Please accept Jesus as your personal savior by repenting from your own sins, converting into His name, and being saved by grace, as a God's free gift to you my friend. Be a newborn Christian (2 Corinthians 5:17). Read also John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-10, and 1 Timothy 2:5. God bless you
Great show, watched as a kid in Melbourne Aus.. Best theme song...they don't write them like that anymore.
I watched in Sydney. Great theme and a great voice the guy had. Perfect fit. I cried at the end of each show. I'm getting a little misty watching again now.
Yeah before school, loved it as well.
I remember watching this series in 1963 with my grandmother. She was a real animal lover and it was her favourite show.
+philip hughes God Bless you sir.
I watched The Littlest Hobo in afternoon reruns as a kid, and although nearly 50 years have passed, I STILL consider this my favorite TV show of all time.
ME TOO! ...............if it wasnt for nice people posting on UTube, we'd never see our old faves. Prob thousands out here like us !
One of the BEST programmes from the 1960's.
This is the music i remember to this show, not that other theme.
I used to watch the original series as a kid, I thought it was better than the later ones in the 70s.
My favourite part is when the dude has a nervous breakdown screaming "You Keep Away From Me!!!" all the way down the elevator.
always loved this show , London was such an amazing dog
wow! i feel old! i watched this show in the late 60's eary 70's then the canadien version in the 80's still running today!
Fantastic - thank you. Finally found the song I remember - still sing it.
My mom and I would enjoy watching this every time it came on. Much joy and memories. We need more shows like this!!
This was awesome I missed that theme song too
A very haunting theme, it stuck in my head since 1963 (and I was six). Delighted this episode is up. (and yes there is /sigh/ the remake)
Yup a great old show they really do not make them like this anymore
Good stories, some simple lessons learned all by a great actor!
Brings back such wonderful memories
Great episode. Rediscovering this show is like running back into an old friend. The theme song lyric "A-drifting, the world is my friend" and London walking down the railroad track have stuck with me for years.

Sometimes I think I'll settle down.
But I know I'd hunger to be free;
Roving's the only life for me.
A driftin' . . . the world is my friend . . .
I'm travellin' . . . along the road . . . without end.
I thought this version was much better than the later version. Great show!
We had a GS named Hobo - after this show - when I was a toddler. I was born in "65 and never got to watch this. Thanks for posting.

It's never been broadcast on CBC. The original was syndicated and the one from the 70s was on CTV.
One of my favourites of all time.
So cool, I watched the 1979-85 version as a kid and still watch the reruns but this is the first time I saw the 60s version.

Good on ya! Thanks. Loved this show as a kid. And one of the very best theme songs, that has never left me!
I grew up with the one from the 80's. thanks for posting these. I am gonna watch them all.
Great show. Reminds me of Lassie here in the states. Lassie also had different series runs in the 50's thru the 80's

thanks for that information, because I always wondered why they put on the title
MEIKEN LONDON when broadcasted in japan.
Thanks for posting, really enjoyed the original series back then.

I didn't know that this show was aired that long.
There were at least 2 if not 3 "Hobo's", but only the Original series of the 60's was memorable to me as the BEST.
A terrible crime is committed. The only witness, a dog. But what a dog. WHAT A DOG!
London was by far the best actor in this episode :)
i remember watching the show in the early 60s. don't remember any later version.
Nothing cooler than putting on a business suit and going bowling til dawn.
London lived a long time...
He was in the 70's version
Super smart doggie
He was super young here
London was like a year old
What a great dog
I'm from Canada and this show is definitely Canadian. The owner says it's the same dog all the way through the 80's
What you saw in the 80's was not the same Dog as in original series of the 60's unftntly......60's was the best by far
My love of GS dogs started here
Wow the Canadian littlest hobo tv show from the 70’s & 80’s redid this episode starring Vic Morrow.
Same story, different details but who cares. There is nothing like the eyes of a dog to take you apart and put you together again. They can make you feel more guilty than sin itself. Gotta love um. Thanks!!!!!!!
The music is great throughout this episode,,Somehow thios earlier version surpasses the later Hobo series in quality and writing
ROAD WITHOUT END
Theme from the Canadian TV Series "The Littlest Hobo" (1963-1965)
(Ronald Stein)
Randy Sparks - 1963
I find adventure everywhere
And friends with whom I'd like to share
This is my stop along the way
Don't really know how long I'll stay
Stop over. The world is my friend
Stop over along the road without end
Traveling around from town to town
Sometimes I think I'll settle down
But I know I'd hunger to be free
Rovin's the only life for me
A-driftin'. The world is my friend
I'm travelin' along the road without end
Looks like it was filmed in Scarborough, Ontario.
That dog was cool
How come movies/shows from the 60's in America have this certain hard accent when they talk and is different in present America?
It’s true, I’ve noticed that people sounded different in old movies. However, this is a Canadian show with a mix of Canadian and American actors, so that might explain it.
This was a Canadian TV show? It's excellent! It addressed themes absent from US television. In those days a lot of US TV were sponsored by advertisers and they didn't want any controversial programs. Ah! "The Littlest Hobo" on FILM! The newer series on videotape looks comical by comparison, IMO. This has kind of a film noir feel to it, and it is similar to a "Twilight Zone" episode called "You Drive" from the final season, 1963-64. Check that out if you like "Silent Witness".
Okay, I felt like I saw Don Draper hit an old woman. LOL. all kidding aside, the show made me wonder what Canada was like in the 60's. The US was embroiled in the civil rights movement and I never had a grasp where Canada was on issues like this at this time. +vistaprime I have to agree. I know Canadian films are far better than those of the USA. Wish I could visit there.
Go to Google Newspaper Archives and check out the Canadian newspapers. It seems the news articles were sympathetic to the Civil Rights protesters but critical of the US involvement in Vietnam.
Hahaha that dog has Sam scared 💩less 😂
hello all you veiwers of the littlest hobo, does anyone know if all the origional 1960s show are available on dvd yet? thiswas a favorite show of mine way back then. much better than lassie, had some interested subject matter and down to earth stories. london was a great dog actor!

Was this ever shown in Color? So many shows were filmed in color with future syndication in mind, then the color versions just stayed on the shelf.
Since there is no existing colour version of the opening and closing credits, I think the chances are that it was never broadcast in colour.
me too
With Antenna TV, Cozi, Me Tv you would think someone would put these back on the air. Highway Patrol is on.. this one's newer LOL
Now there's a real dog.
"mrs. pickens" hahaha.
All that was missing was the sponsered by Dixie Crystals, or around here it was anyway.
Does anyone know why London also features in the 70/80s version of the show, cant be same dog? did they name the next one the same as this one?
+Daxwes Yes I have looked this up recently. But still dont know if they have many dogs called London or just 1 at a time?
+cruiseylee The dog in the 1963-65 series was the grandfather of the dog in the 8os series.
+cruiseylee He's a sprit dog. I never saw any of them until now and I'm 67. He surely had a great human and trainer. Can you just imagine how wonderful his life was to play such a role? I loves da dawgs!
Yep, they did. London Jr.
what city was this filmed in... tried to identify landmarks but no luck
I read somewhere Kitchener but that may apply to the 79-85 version.
This particular episode was filmed at least partly in South Etobicoke - Mimico, specifically. The bad guy’s house is right around the corner from mine :-)
The remade version is here:

I'm honestly tempted to call this "Doggie Manos" for a number of reasons, but it'd be a little cruel on the actors' part.
is this dean martin
Episode written by Edgar Allan Poe.
this shit is hilarious.
Trailer park boys anyone else?
I like Hobo. Please post more episodes. Please accept Jesus as your personal savior by repenting from your own sins, converting into His name, and being saved by grace, as a God's free gift to you my friend. Be a newborn Christian (2 Corinthians 5:17). Read also John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-10, and 1 Timothy 2:5. God bless you
