    Thank you so much for this video!! It helped me a lot. I had tried the other Thunderbolt 3 Gen 2 (40AN0135US) docking station and I had several issues, it was not charging my Thinkpad X380 (even after I made the drivers update), the audio was not working (but it was fixed after the update), and I had to use a DisplayPort/Thunderbolt adapter for the MacBookPro to extend to 3 screens (laptop+2 external screens). With the Lenovo Hybrid USB-C(40AF0135US) with DisplayLink technology, it’s been a breeze: both the Thinkpad and the MacBook Pro are powered by the dock, they both extend to 3 screens without the need of additional adapter (DisplayLink is installed on the MBP), the audio works great. This one is a keeper!

      Is one USB C cable sufficient to drive 2 X 4K60hz monitors on the hybrid model? I have a 2021 MBPRO and was looking at these units so I can dock with a single USB C cable. Thanks

    Struggled connecting a 49 inch monitor and 34 inch monitor to my macbook. I had a ThinkPad dock but one screen was mirroring itself on the other. DisplayLink app did not work. I checked this video and realized I got the lesser generation of the Thinkpad Hub. I purchased this one and now it works like a charm.
    Subbed!

      just a little note here: "The ThinkPad USB-C and Hybrid Docks are the new generations of universal docking solutions based on the latest USB-C and DisplayLink technology" So even the gen 2 should support it. But same issue for me. I'm just setting up the return and ordering the hybrid.

    this is great -- I have nearly identical hardware. M1 macbook pro, this exact Lenovo dock, one dell and one Acer monitor. When I try to ask people about an issue I'm having, they all say that this hardware setup makes no sense and won't work. Here's you showing it working, which is great.
    The issue I'm having is that I want one of the monitors to be in portrait mode. I cannot make it work. The problem is that I can't even get to "how do I make portrait mode work" because everyone is telling me that the entire setup is not supported. Now I have a video I can show them to get past them trying to solve a problem I'm not having.
    The one thing that would make this better -- suggestion, not a criticism -- would be if you run through the process of setting one of the monitors into portrait mode. Or help provide guidance why it won't work.
    (I'm hearing that my problem might be an issue with the M1 silicon and that it's been fixed but then reintroduced again.)

    2024 update: I'm using this dock. with an 2024 M3 16" MacBook Pro model. Using two monitors, an LG 32" ultrawide and an UPERFECT 2560 x 1600 px portable monitor. It does a perfect job. However (I'm probably being too ambitious here) I'm also hooking a Native Instruments Komplete 6 Audio Interface, and here's where I'm getting connectivity problems. I works sometimes with all being connected, other times it doesn't.
    Another thing I found is that the Dock heats up quite a lot, I bet I could iron my shirts with that and that doesn't seem to be a good sign. Maybe I'll just buy a couple heat dissipators and carry on, it works great!

    I have the exact same dock I use for work, however, when I plug in my MacBook Air, the monitors aren't being recognized by the laptop. What is weird is that the dock lights up when I plug it in, and my MacBook recognizes both the dock's audio output as well as a pair of headphones I have plugged in. Both work, so I believe it is only a display problem.
    I have installed the DisplayLink driver (and allowed recording access) and it seems fine, the only thing is that nothing shows up on either of my Dell monitors.
    Anyone has encountered a similar problem?

    I echo the comments, this review was really helpful and will use one of the links to purchase it in the UK!
    One question, have you found that the screens flicker every so often, or not at all? I’m
    Using a dock at the moment, but they turn off every 30 mins or so, only for a few seconds, but it’s HIGHLY Annoying.

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kwesi Afful, thank you for the nice feedback and helping me out with the support on purchasing via the link. I haven't found the screens flicker every so often, if you do one first thing I would try is different video cable, that is usually the first sign of bad cable or bad connection since its digital cable its losing packet of data (in this case display information) and so it will black out and in. If it was VGA it will go quirky colours instead being analog cable. I hope that helps.

I just received mine last week I had small issue that my MacBook does not charge while it is connected to the docking station, I had 90w charger. The question is if I got the 135w charger will it charger my MacBook or I have to connect a charger along with docking station

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since you have a 90W charger for the macbook I am guessing you have a 14 inch M1 Max or 15-16 Inch Macbook Pro, this hybrid dock is only able to charge up to 65W and so it will put a slow charge on your macbook pro. If you aren't putting much workload or intense work then it should be able to have very slow battery drain or no battery drain at all and it might even charge the MBP while idling. If you find your workflow is draining the battery then you will just need to plug in the 90W power adapter too. Since you have received it you be able to tell from your experience with this dock and your workflow. Love to hear your experience @Ahmad Shaker.

      The using the USB-A will not charge your laptop at all, so you will need to still connect your supplied AC power adapter to your laptop. If you had a USB-C port, more than likely your laptop will require at least 100W and this dock is only able to provide up to 65W so you will still need to connect your supplied AC power adapter anyway. You can still run the dual or triple monitor setup, USB ports, network and audio through the dock just not the power thats all.

    Hi! Thank you for the video! I recently got one, everything works except the charging. Tried TB3 and 3.2 Gen 2 cable with an M1 Air and XPS 13. Weirdly, it charges a Galaxy S21 besides all functionality, the phone recognizes everything and charging as well. Got a 90W PSU with it (45N0500). Can it be that this PSU is not the original and it doesn't work properly? What is the model number of the original 90W PSU? I was able to find the 135W one but not the 90W. Thanks in advance! :D

      @martinterhes4852 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@on2a The power supply was the problem for me. With the 90W one, it does not charge my Mac. (Side note, the Galaxy S21 did indicate that it's charging, however, it did not. The % dropped only, it would probably charge with the bigger PSU) I got the 135W PSU and it works perfectly. If you tried it with the bigger one and still not working, maybe check the Type-C cable. It should be rated 3.2 Gen 2 and proper power delivery. Hope it helps :D

    • @BsianTech

      To charge a laptop it has to be via the USB-C port, most laptops won't change via the USB-A port as it wasn't designed to deliver high enough Wattage that would charge up laptops.

    Hi, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2 connected to my 2017 MacBook Pro and a Dell U2719D Monitor. I have installed the Display Link Manager but my MacBook is currently not connected with my external monitor. Does it matter whether I plug into a HDMI port or DP port from the monitor to the dock?

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn't matter which port you plugged into the dock, two things to check that in system preferences then security that DisplayLink is authorised. Secondly also make sure displaylink manager is running you should be able to find it in the applications folder in finder to start it up. It lives as an icon near where it displays the time on top right in the menu bar.

    Can you plug a 300w power brick into this to power a Lenovo Legion 5 while gaming?

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can but it won't pass through the 300W to the laptop via the dock because that USB-C is limited to 90W. So a powerful laptop needs to be still connected by the power brick directly to the laptop. Hope that makes sense.

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you use this for the P15 you will still need to plug in the supplied 230W power adapter that comes with your P15. This dock isn't able to supply enough power but it can do the ports and dual monitors. I would advise the thunderbolt 3/4 docks would be better than this universal dock. You will get better performance and higher resolutions on the display outputs from the thunderbolt docks compare to this dock.

      If you driving two monitors go with this, if you driving three monitors go with the D6000.
