    I slept in a vw estate with a builders bag above me in Cumbria, Junction 38, and the idea kept me warm.

    Great video, and very concise and accurate with weight. I would love to know where the stuff sack / inflator bag came from and who makes them. Thank you.

      Hi - it’s a Thermarest Neo air pump sack, 40 litres. But looking on the internet just now suggests that the manufacturer has replaced it with another product. Thanks for watching and hope that helps. Regards…

    Sorry for late comment, only just watched the video. Excellently set out in such a logical way and some great gear choices. I’d be really be interested to hear your view on viability of using trail runners for the cape wrath trail and your views on waterproof socks? By the way I love the no nonsense, get on with it style of your walking videos, your love of walking comes across so strong. Cheers stewart

      Hi Stewart - I would consider trail runners especially at this time of year. I have found they dry quicker and are light and comfortable. I wore Salomon GTX boots on the Cape Wrath trail which were ok but took ages to dry and actually leaked despite being gore tex lined. For me, having trekking poles is the greatest asset as they take the strain off my legs a bit and help keep me steady over rougher ground. Perhaps have a trial in the local hills to get a feel for them before you commit? Thanks so much for your comment and watching…

      PS - I found that the gore tex socks eventually leak but some report that even when damp/wet they keep your feet warmer. I tend to wear regular walking socks, not too thick and put lots of Vaseline on my feet each morning which helps keep blisters at bay - in my experience.

      @@solway17carlisle thanks for the advice, I’ve just switched to trail runners and wish I had done it years ago. I’m going to try the trekking poles, as I do most of my hiking on Dartmoor and I find I don’t usually need them, but I’ve got more walks planned further afield so think they will be useful. Can I just ask what your thoughts are on waterproof socks?

    • @solway17carlisle
      @solway17carlisle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stewartgregson8479 Hi Stewart - I’ve tried them but am a bit on the fence about them. They seem to get wet eventually, seem to lose their waterproofing qualities etc. However, I have read that some find them more comfortable/warm when wet than standard socks. They might be worth a try on the Cape Wrath trail as there are plenty of water crossings/ boggy ground there. In combination with trail runners, could be the way to go,but take ‘standard’ socks as well. Hope that helps - all the best with your plans. Regards

    The Windmaster stove has its own igniter, but it only works if you turn the gas up high before pressing the button. Also, try the Soto Thermostack cookset, it's brilliant

    Hi I've just watched 3 of your vids and enjoyed them very much. Just a thought when you asked if anything different in my pack I always carry some emodium tablets as if your drinking from streams in Wales where there's more sheep than people a dose of the ships is no fun in a tent ha just a thought. Good luck with ur hikes

      Hi Dave - I think the sleeping bag was a daft mistake on my part - ok for double digit temps but not for Scotland in the Spring..I got the mat from Ultralight Outdoor Gear
