Whenever I try and replay this game I can only make it 5 minutes in because I just can't progress beyond this Mole Cricket fight. There are no guides that explain how to beat him either--it's as if noone else has this problem! 😆
If you are underleveled the jealous bass fight is really tough because he can just keep attacking and attacking and you just don't have the stats to tank his combos I always grind the bats in that area for that reason
I think you forgot the one with the mecha gorilla. This one's a special case because when entering the house after losing the battle, Lydia is nowhere to be found.
I wanted to focus solely on the additional dialogue this time, though I do plan on making another video for the other unique instances like you mentioned! I did test the gorilla boss but I didn't put that Lydia was absent in my notes, so thank you for reminding me 😅 Another cool one is in chapter 2 when you fight the Clayman as Duster & Wess. Normally, when you walk into the castle it'll trigger an automatic cutscene and the battle starts--but if you lose, you'll have more freedom to walk around and you can go into either of the side rooms first. You still have to beat the Clayman to progress, but it's kind of neat!
@@GarryDumblowski no not really they COULD get out through the cricket hole in theory if they want to but it's implied the only way out of snowcap mountain is by the fridge.
The Zombies are interesting because they deliberately ambush you the next time around due to you slipping through their fingers. Very intelligent for undead monsters.
It's really astonishing how much attention to detail, adoration and love that was poured into this simplistic-looking game. The characters actually feel like real people and the world they reside in feels like a living breathing one that have different dialogue each time you go back and talk to them after every little event, no matter how small, rather than repeating the same line of dialogue over and over. There is no other RPG or game like this one in my opinion. It truly is a special gem. I thought I discovered everything about this game and there's still so much I don't know about! I had no idea the enemies had special dialogue if you lost to them!
It’s thanks to this game that I go out of my way to play other RPGs “incorrectly” first to see if anything happens, and I now pay a great deal of attention to how many NPCs have repeat dialogue! The original Paper Mario games (especially the first three) are generally pretty good about this, though not nearly to the extent of MOTHER 3. In Paper Mario, lots of the hub world’s townsfolk have different lines with every chapter-but in MOTHER 3, they’ll all say something new even after the tiniest bit of story development within that chapter like you mentioned. They also might say something unique just by interacting with them repeatedly…this game really is different from any other in its obsession with the smallest details! I have never replayed a game as much as MOTHER 3 and still always find new things about it
@@ThaneGaming I enjoy the Paper Mario series as well, even though the newer Paper Mario games are considered to be a downgrade compared to the first three, Color Splash had really amazing writing with the characters saying different dialogue when you spoke to them. The Paper Mario and Earthbound series are my favorite RPGs. Another thing I notice that I really appreciate about the Mother series is that it is the only RPG I know where you can go up to an object and get a description on it's history and or appearance whether it's a stove, a desk, etc. I never saw a game that told so much description about a simple object that would mostly just been seen as a part of the background, almost as if they have some sort of importance worth having a text written out about said object. Its worth checking. Not every object has a description which brings up the "no problem here" prompt but the ones that do are always worth checking You know what else describes background objects in detailed description? Books do. It's also the only game I know where signs have snarky dialogue and appreciate you taking the time to read them so much they love you!
earthbound also has dialogue like this, i got really surprised when belch said a line of dialogue i had never seen before after losing in his factory and entering again not only that, he invites you to come in directly, skipping the 3 minute wait
It’s possible if you go with the mr saturn before you enter the chimera lab (it will be a lot harder so i recommed to get some bombs to defeat the pigmasks)
@@knack7147 I've played the game more than i remember, i tried that, and it worked Here's a trick if you want a challenge: name yourself "HARD MODE" at the prayer sanctuary (chapter 1) and every enemy and bosses will have double HP (health points) this option was added on the english fan translation
man i would never have known this if it wasn't for this video i think the only two times i would have seen a special dialogue i think it would be more on the jealous bass and mr passion but I never stopped to say a "yes to him"
Agreed, and that’s saying a lot. The GBA had no shortage of fantastic games but this one’s the pinnacle in terms of writing, sound design, and sprite work!
Yep, it certainly takes a long time! Nobody can actually unintentionally lose the prologue fight (unless they’ve never played a video game before & REALLY don’t know what they’re doing, trying to continuously run away haha) so it’s awesome they put in dialogue simply for those who wanted to see what would happen. You have to purposely lose the chapter 7 Mole Cricket encounter too, unless you enter the battle with 1HP and are poisoned or something 😆
I recommend getting the Horseantulas to beat you up beforehand, they are super close to the Mole Cricket Hole & can poison 😅 Oh! I also made myself lose to Negative Man, so that’s possible haha. He’ll sometimes attack for 1 damage…nothing special happens but it’s a funny thought
What is your favorite special bit of dialogue? I like that you can get on Lord Passion’s good side by complimenting his new curls, and how the Fierce Pork Trooper (in his combat suit) gives you a hint about his weakness. The Zombies ambushing Duster in a different spot caught me off guard as well--I thought I had skipped them since I could enter the graveyard after losing, so it was a genuine surprise! It’s a little weird how a lot of the late game bosses don’t offer any special comments, but maybe that’s because there’s so many of them...how do you think Porky would’ve taunted Lucas and co. on retries?
Porky would likely mention that he has a lifetime to continuously deal with Lucas, and then some; or he’d express his gratitude towards Lucas for killing his boredom, and he’d say it along the lines of “Thanks for playing this game with me!!”
one of my favorites is the pigmask that gives you the pork bean. If you try to talk to him after crashing, you find out he just fainted standing up, lol

Right? I didn’t die to too many of these bosses my first time around, besides Mr. Passion & Lord Passion. Some of chapter 7’s bosses are super tough though, like New Fassad-few late games bosses had their dialogue changed though 😅

I had also only ever seen those two before making this video! 😅 The other bosses I lost to in my first playthrough either didn’t have special dialogue, or I reloaded the last save (to get my items back) so it acted like I was facing them for the first time
I unequiped everything, then poisoned myself by letting the Horseantula bite me, and started the Mole Cricket fight with super low HP. Then I just kept hitting "run" until he defeated me 😅
As someone who in Earthbound tried ALL dialogue who could change (in my though) depending party member and event (Ness Alone, Paula and Ness, Ness with Paula unconscious, vice versa, Ness Paula and Jeff, Ness Jeff and Paula unconscious, Jeff and Paula with Ness unconscious (Dinn't do Jeff unconscious with Ness and Paula though) Ness and Jeff unconscious, Jeff and Ness unconscious (i found a lot of very intersting dialogue especially with the treehouse kids lmao) and Poo alone (wich most of Time were same as Jeff) I love this video so much and im glad people like me still exist in Mother fandom lmao
It’s super cool you sought out all of those lines! I haven’t done it yet so I’m curious to see how NPCs treat certain party members differently. EarthBound’s script is the game’s biggest appeal to me, so the fact that there’s still dialogue I’ve never seen even after all these years as a fan excites me! The other fascinating thing is that a very low percentage of players likely even saw this text or noticed it was a thing the developers considered-I actually didn’t realize either until I read Mato’s book! @@ThaneGaming haha glad to see im not the only one there ! for the small discoveries i made, one of my favs are the ones with the treehouse kids, if you go see them with Jeff and Ness and talk to the one who asked Ness to see him if he meet the cute girl he saw with him in his Dreams he just Say "love !" And same if you do it with Paula ! There is also that old lady in twoson where if you talk to her with Ness and Paula OR with Ness and Jeff she Say : "Just as i though you 2 make such a nice couple !" Its small little detail i love not just beceause they though about us doing it with Jeff but also letting it to player's interpretation about Ness being possibly bisexual (honnestly its a real possibility but by how Ness himself react (or not most of time) to all those i like to think he's asexual and aromantic but both are possible via different interpretation one based on NPC'S says and another one based on Ness himself) but also so we can identify to him more by searching some kind of validation from the game if we prefer seing us or Ness (depending of implication and identification of people to Ness) unlock those dialogue with a a boy instead of a girl ! As bi myself i just felt so happy when i discover this, Tony and another dialogue from another treehouse kid : "Youve grown since i last saw you, you begin to look like a man ! You're so cool ! I.. i think i really like you.... Well you know what i mean." I just love this serie so much ! And Ness beceause of those is probably still my favorite Mother protagonist.

If you do it with Jeff (or Poo) he do it too !! Its adorable detail and reason why i love Mother and Pikmin they did'nt put LGBT just for money even Itoi explained that he put Tony in it beceause i quote him "gay kids exist in our world so i through that putting one or two in the game could be nice and more accurate to reality" I love this man so much !! Also thank you i'm glad you do like them ! I love them a lot too beceause it's based on canon in a way and i love HC who are credible !

Same here, I like to use a lot of items in battle so if I did lose I would usually always reload my save--I never saw a lot of these exchanges!
