- Thomas and Friends All Engines Go has a new line of toys, this ALL AGES review looks at James No5 motorised engine. James is very similar to Gordon No 4 but this time I can compare James AEG Trackmaster 3 to the previous James of Trackmaster 2, 1 and Classic TOMY James. This look at the toy history reveals just how radically different AEG James is in design, size and details. Sadly the Motorised engines are showing issues of poor quality control related to the black line work of James. The plastic is unusually dull in finish and the number 5 requited a black 'stroke' to separate the number from the core red colour.
All Engines Go toy trains have brought a totally new fresh look to the Thomas & Friends franchise. Maybe this new look has worked better in the 'push along' Metal Engines Vs the Motorised toys. I find the Trackmaster 3 All Engines Go toys to be a tad too big and too tall, the engines rear coupler is way too long. And maybe the strangest detail is little bits of plastic to represent wheels that are parts of larger steam locomotives.
I also have a deep chat about problems developing on TH-cam and how TH-cam now ignore a 'general audience' category for a video that's made to be enjoyed by all ages.
I look at the Thomas & Friends toy stock 6 weeks out from Christmas and how the shoplifting at my local Kmart is getting wildly out of control. And found in a broken toys box is the broken up TOMY Gordon.

Here's one for you, Leo. What are your thoughts on videos which get marked as made for kids by TH-cam, yet also end up getting age-gated? How exactly is that supposed to work and why does it happen? If a video is age-gated, then you have to be logged in and at least 18 years old to watch it, yet if it's marked as made for kids, then it's getting recommended alongside other kid content... or is it? How do we know that the video doesn't just fall off the network at that point? Furthermore, I've lost count the number of times I've seen Simpsons or Family Guy videos which are marked as made for kids, despite the fact they are rated TV-14. Nothing about any of this makes sense and I too do not understand why TH-cam does nothing to fix the issue. If you create family friendly content, then TH-cam says you're producing content made for kids. If you produce adult content, then TH-cam deems you non-advertiser friendly. Where exactly is the common playing field in all this? It honestly seems more like these days TH-cam wants you here as consumer and not a producer. It certainly wasn't this way prior to 2011...
This type of double flagging seems fairly common. And it purely exposes how dumb the AI system is at determining what a video is and who it's created for. And yes cartoons with adult elements and language get flagged as 'made of kids' because the bot is seeing an animation, hearing weird voices and that ticks. the boxes it's a kids show. I don't look at TH-cam kids app but I can see the top TH-cam kids creators are basically pumping out content aimed at 5 years and younger. Basically pre school & baby videos. Anything else that swims in that arena seems to be crushed and ignored. This is why my videos basically die as soon as they get slapped as TH-cam Kids. General audience videos don't work in the made for kids side of TH-cam, that I am certain of. The whole environment is a train wreck and Google don't give a hoot how destructive the dumb AI is to creators or audience. It's there purely as a legal requirement to quell COPPA
This is the kind of other problems that I have seen that have been addressed.
Luigikid Gaming looked at a series of videos called Wanner Bros Splatter and it was taking the Looney Tunes characters and the Tom and Jerry characters and creating very gory animations, the problem was that those videos were actually showing up on TH-cam kids and those videos are definitely not safe for children.
The follow up video was that TH-cam saw the video that Luigikid put out, and as the result of that, the Warner Bros. splatter videos were taken off of TH-cam kids and their comments were turned off.
And also the video that Luigikid made was marked as advertiser unfriendly, but he stated in the follow-up video that he was willing to take that if it was to make TH-cam a lot safer for kids.
I remember watching this channel back in 2012, I was 4 back then. There was no such thing as youtube kids, I was just watching thomas and friends videos and I enjoyed the content a lot on this channel, whether it was the destruction, or the trackmaster vs tomy, or the ripoffs, collecting, etc. Now I've come back to watch videos on this channel because I had notifications on for a while. The youtube kids situation was already getting bad the moment it released. I check one of the popular videos (rip sort by oldest) and then its marked as MADE FOR KIDS. It's really sad to see what youtube has become now, but I have no where else to go (like who's gonna go watch videos on vimeo or something else lol). I hope youtube just straight up removes youtube kids, it's such a stupid thing and it shouldn't exist.

It's sad to see the state of TH-cam, I remember watching your old ho conversions as a kid and the filming technique vids and now in high school I am part of my school's av programs and have a full ho layout.
I think your videos struck a good balance where it has topics to keep a kid entertained while teaching them (and adults) the history of these toys and just things you are knowledgeable about. It's important to allow kids to see general audience content to show them more aspects than they would in "kids" content
I wish you the best Leo, you taught me a lot and it's just criminal what TH-cam has done to you over the years.
It's so difficult to make a video on this site now without the threat of the system finding fault in whats uploaded.

Just thought I’d tell you, I believe the feature of the talking James stopping when the tender is lifted up is a safety feature to let the toy know it’s not on the ground so the user can’t get their hair tangled in the driving axle! Sounds strange but it does happen! Your a real trooper for sticking around this crazy site.

@@twistedaxles9126 Curious you bring up dailymotion. I clearly remember around 6 years ago when a lot of TH-cam producers were being heavily shafted by the 2016 adpocalypse (first of a series). Dailymotion were sending out invitation emails explaining they were keen for already established TH-cam creators to also upload to their sight without the fear and drama that was enveloping TH-cam. If I was smart I should have taken up the offer.
Like I say in the video I'm waiting for some form of turn around or something positive to happen on TH-cam. I honestly don't trust a word the CEO has said since she was installed in 2014. If anything all thats happened is multiple layers of changes that have had huge negative effects on many styles of producers. It's almost like Google is driving TH-cam into the ground and trying to crash it. No one ever asked for a pretty effect when pressing a 'thumbs up' yet this is what we get. All many people want is a clean, lean interface and an environment that's inducive to growing a channel. Not much to ask for🤔

The yellowing of the plastic could've likely caused it to be brittle, also the TrackMaster Classic talking engines have a feature where the train only moves when the wheels of the tender/freight car behind the engine are on a flat surface (including on the tracks), also the Tomy/TrackMaster classic James likely has a cracked gear
It's not technically when the tender is flat, just when the rear wheels of it have pressure applied to them; pessure such as the tracks.
This video was certainly something. Teddy was adorable to see. Idk why but it gave me those finale vibes. Poor James and Gordon. I have a similar James as well and I think the reason why yours died was simply because of age. Those were early production engines from Plarail. They made Thomas, Henry, and James first. To identify those guys, you need to look at the face. If there is a white ring instead of the small black ring on the front of the face, then it is an early production model. Those guys were made in 1994 so they eventually die at some point. Too bad Gordon with dead. Brittle plastic is a killer. My HIT Toys Gordon is like super sunfaded and the tender screws gave out a couple months ago, so now he is held together by hobby glue. It's sad how things have to be like this.
I was very lucky to get enough video of the TOMY James before it died. It was sounding so happy to be given a run after being ignored for so long. It was just too much for his heart. RIP James.

I’m glade u brang back some of the older stuff, the newer stuff is TERRIBLE, and even small TH-cams have problems with “Not for Kids” settings on TH-cam. Because TH-cam is just stupid now
I’ve been a constant viewer since I was little (I’m 18 now). I think I first discovered your channel thanks to Mad Bomber and from your toy reviews and modification videos in the late/early 2000-2010s. I’ve been on TH-cam for most of my life, before the site became designated as “for kids”. I love your content Leo and you’ve taught me a lot about toys, about consumerism, business, and appraisal. You also taught me a lot about art and the value of things. As much as I would love to see you make videos like that again, I understand why you don’t and won’t.
TH-cam sucks now. Even though I was on TH-cam for most of my life, it shouldn’t be “for kids”. And I don’t personally think that a company like Google should decide what’s “kid friendly” or not. Whether something should be classified as “for kids” or “not for kids” should really be up to the parents, not a corporation that treats its source of product and lifeline like untalented morons. There’s a lot of talent and non-talent on youtube and it’s sad to see real genuine talent being oppressed. I’m happy that you’ve carried on as long as you have, Leo. You’re such a staple of the Thomas fandom that I can’t imagine the internet without you.
I love your toy reviews. I love your toy modifications. I love your Dark Side, I love Mad Bomber, I love your old film school videos, I like your analysis videos, and it’s honestly been cool to watch a family grow up through the lenses and screens of filmmaking.
I’ll be honest; if Fred videos are “kid friendly”, then your channel is pulled straight from Nickelodeon. As much as I love the original Fred from the late 2000s; his stuff isn’t really “kid friendly” in my opinion. More geared towards teenagers with a sense of humor. So just because a video features toys it’s suddenly a “kids video”? I can’t imagine how many adult toy collectors take offense or issue with that. I myself think that the designation is idiotic. I understand that youtube is a business and that it has a quota to keep and lobbyists/irate groups to submit to, but without content creators like you there is no youtube. There’s a lot of internal crumbling in constructs around the world, (a lot in America too but I won’t bring that up), and it just makes me disappointed to see a once lovely video sight just become mediocre. TH-cam isn’t TikTok and I don’t want it to be. TH-cam isn’t Cartoon Network and it shouldn’t be. It shouldn’t be an AMC article talking about business ethics or consumer advice. It should be a little of everything, not just trying to pander to parents who willingly place screens in front of their young children and calling it “parenting”. I grew up on TH-cam by choice, but because of lazy parenting TH-cam is trying to profit off of naive and inexperienced parents. It’s sad that that’s what they’re doing and that it’s hurting good people like you.

On the topic of plastic, it just seems like whenever toys are exposed to odd temperatures then they start to lose their color or become brittle and weak. This is especially true with old toys because their plastic ages and as things age, they deteriorate. Since your pool tracks trains have been exposed to a lot of moisture, sunlight, and battery corrosion; they’ll fall apart more quickly than they would if they were just played with inside of the house. I’m not a plastics expert either but that’s how it works. What also helps to deteriorate plastic is it’s quality, depending on how good the plastic is made. What I’ve noticed is that the less “eco-friendly” a plastic is, the longer that it’ll take to fall apart regardless of its conditions. And the more “eco-friendly” that plastic is, the time that it takes to deteriorate is faster than it would be if it wasn’t “eco-friendly”. This makes sense, given that eco-friendly things have a higher rate of deterioration than non eco-friendly things. The way that plastic is made and shaped in factories also contributes to its overall deterioration.
Even after it’s gone, I still think that TrackMaster 2 is garbage. The toys were all the same, no diversity and their bodies were ugly. TrackMaster 3 is hideous as well, I think. I’m a stickler for the 2000s toys so that’s why I’m so harsh on modern toys. I still think that the Tomy-TrackMaster Classic era, the 1990s-2010s TWR era, and the ERTL and Take Along eras are the best eras of Thomas toys. They had character, they were fun and versatile, and they were quality. Mattel has always been an inept company and their method of “fixing things” is to replace it with something far crappier. Kind of like Google’s handling with TH-cam over the years 😂.

The real crown jewel James in my opinion is the early flip face one that came with the mountain, I'm so glad I managed to get one for cheap
I have a flip face Thomas and it was very tricky to find. It was part of a garage sale that had stupid high prices set on stuff and I had to buy the lot as a whole. I remember to this day how I was ripped off by that sale to get just one special Thomas
The fact you made so may people's childhoods better with your charm and interesting videos yet treated like rubbish and as if you make content nobody watches yet you're a literal king another platform really grinds my gears and pulls on my heart strings to a level I can't physically show or explain. On the topic about content made for a general audience, I discovered this channel little over 10 years ago, and I still come here to watch the content as even as a young adult now, your content is still really interesting.
What I notice about the 'made for kids' area on TH-cam is the producers making the really 'baby sitter' videos are the only ones pulling a audience. Older kids obviously avoid the app like the plague.
I’ve got one of those Talking James’s, it’s a very nice engine, though my version has a different voice from the US dubs of the show from that era. Basically the same voice lines, though. It is just called a Talking James, those just had a feature to stop for, likely when they’d derail. I got it from a set with a loop and a lighthouse piece that would spin around when an engine stopped at it, a simple set but a nice one. Thinking about it, I believe you got a small pack with that same lighthouse stand alone with a Victor a while back.

My 2 cents on the yellowed plastics on the pool tracks toys is that long exposure to the pool chlorine has damaged the plastic.
To comment on your shooting star gordon issue;
My mother works with transporting and storing artwork for museums, so she knows what is good and bad about storing certain things. She once told me that storing plastic items in certain plastic bins causes the chemicals to leak from one to the other, especially if stored for a long time. so from this, I think it could have been something from the blank bin itself that then caused the yellowing

Sorry to hear about your troubles Leo. Also the reason why Turtles is no longer around, and why so many people no longer like him, all has to do with a ton of a drama, that transpired on Twitter, where most of the discussion/ drama in the fanbase takes place. YT marking his channel as "made for kids" had little to do with why he left. If you really want to know one of the reasons as to why a majority of the fanbase says the the stuff they say about him, I highly recommend watching a YT live stream titled: Anniversary Live Stream | Magic Railroad Parody | Thomas & Friends, which was a live commentary of the producers of a parody of 'Thomas and the Magic Railroad', a parody that Turtles helped to make, skip too 2:40:02 of the stream, that's when they start talking about Turtles. Anyways nice video, and sorry to hear about your troubles, hope things get better.
I’ve seen many people get screwed over by TH-cam kids, whom of which are Thomas fans, they had 2 ways of getting around it. Inserting swear words in the beginning, or insert stronger profanities in the video description. I personally use this method, so far it has worked for me.
Adding stronger language won't work. The system is seeing a video that has a main focus of a children's toy and popular character so that equals TH-cam Kids. Once it's set as that it will be flagged because of the language and the video will be in a void where it will die. It's that simple. TH-cam systems see it as black / white now. There is no argument for anything else.
I have an old Beast Wars Megatron that was stored in a tub and I discovered that he has yellowed last time I picked him up. The tub is well away from the sunlight and it was the face-down side that yellowed, same as your Gordon.

Leo, even as you go through bad times in the system, I and many others have stuck with ya’ for the past decade and hope things get better for you as time continues to go on. Keep going, and hopefully someday, you’ll start winning appeals again, or better, not have to make appeals at all!
That unexpected ending scene of Elf on the shelf destroying a 1995 Gordon really made me sad.
Hey, Leo you've always been a big inspiration to me and i'm really sad to hear about whats happening with all the TH-cam kids and COPPA non sense something I usually do on my video is I mark it as not for kids and I enable the comments but don't worry the video will not get age restricted unless you actually do it on purpose all the not for kids thing does is basically nothing But there's always DailyMotion and lots of early TH-cam revivals but no matter what happens I will do what I can to support you Thanks.
From what i've seen in some other videos that is not made for kids is they have swearing in the first 30 seconds of the video and by that they usually say enjoying the FWord video, but from what I can see over the years of watching your videos you dont like swearing and I respect that.

The shooting star gordon is yellow like that because it was stored is a cold dark environment yellowing can be caused by sun or being in a really cold environment. It also depends on the type of plastic that's used. I had a toy that was stored in a really cold environment and it yellowed and broke into dust.

Hi Leo, this does not relate to anything from this video, but i was wondering if you had the super fast Tomy streamlined Thomas or the Trackmaster 2 custom made super fast Thomas you made many years back. If you still have both of them, I suggest a video idea. Make a race track with obstacles and make the both of them race. I have been thinking of this idea for a while, and I think you and your son will have loads of fun. I believe bringing back this type of video will grab more attention to newer viewers.

LEGO has a problem with brittleness and yellowing with certain colors especially. Blue, reddish - brown, and dark red are main culprits. I have heard that different color dyes react differently with the plastics
One I have seen problems with is Gold plastic. And I always think of the Golden Thomas and how it's literally a time bomb waiting to self destruct
@@leokimvideo ah, gold plastic syndrome. That's plagued Transformers stuff for a large amount of its earlier years. Another plastic you want to be careful with is the transparent stuff, that stuff is the bane of a Transformers fan's existence, so brittle, especially when used in a joint of moving part often put under stress it may not be much of an issue for your stuff though. From what I've seen some stuff has been having a yellowing problem as well. I'm no expert with plastics, but I definitely know these aren't new or rare issues. I do also know that some yellow more than others and some do it faster than others. Although I have never seen the yellowing make it brittle and crumble like what you've shown before
I absolutely love your videos man. I first found you through your Thomas Dark Side videos. I would suggest you move to another website like Dailymotion as they aren't as annoying to deal with as TH-cam.
One of my old 2006 Gordon Trackmaster models almost looked like the one in this video, missing face, yellowing paint, yellow face, scratches all over the place, and mud all over the buffers.
And i am so so sorry to see how bad TH-cam has screwed you over, i watched some of your old videos and it truly looks like they have sent you off the deep end, i grew up with your channel watching all of your Thomas Collection videos, Dark Side toys, i even remember when you made Mr. Hammer his own channel, everything was so nice and calming to watch, i really enjoyed your toy modifications and your videos about filmmaking, i hope that you can get past this and perhaps go back to your old style of videos, i wish you the best Leo.

For a I idea for a next videos is buy the maintenance loop yard set and use you super fast thomas to jump the bridge like the great race
It makes me angry too thinking about how TH-cam tried to get me also to promote their kids app and I even sat through one of their brainwashing sessions with other creators telling us we needed to make our videos appeal more to kids. The irony is on one hand they mark a video for kids and on the other they mark it as not suitable for all advertisers.
The Thomas stuff is virtually non existent in stores here in my area of the USA. I agree the metal brings stuff looks better than the plastic motorized stuff.

It's getting really close to the time for me to tell the full story of how Google was seeking out creators to push the TH-cam KIDS app. Thank God I refused to do as I was asked and i'm on record for doing that. I follow the staff I knew at Google on LinkedIn and I do laugh they lost their jobs once the KIDS environment collapsed. One became a 'Life Coach' 🤣. His previous job before Google was working for Warner Bros. It was the time when Google were employing film & TV media staff and there were dedicated 'TH-cam managers'. I'm not a 'YES' person to absolutely stupid ideas. I hate anything that sets divisions within the TH-cam environment. The development of the TH-cam Kids app is at the core of the problems with Coppa / FTC. It just set up a honey pot to focus on an audience who is very affected by 'screen' entertainment and evil advertising aimed at children. It attracted some really toxic TH-cam creators as they quickly worked out how to make very edgy and dangerous child focused videos. The fact that Google was busted for collecting data related to children has destroyed so many creators on TH-cam it's not funny.
I mostly blame these kids stupid parents because they should be sending their kids to TH-cam kids.
Because parents should be monitoring what their kids watch at all times and right now it seems that they’re being very negligent in doing that, so TH-cam is doing their stupid job for them. TH-cam you’re not a stupid nanny, you are a website made to entertain people and educate
Your Gordon seems to have the same issue that a lot of people I see have on twitter with their Japanese counter parts of the Tomy toys as that plastic seems to have yellow very easily especially on the faces

51:40 the motor gear inside the motor assembly probably broke apart thus is why motor is good but no drive is happening ,simple fix just install a new gear on it after that should work as if nothing went wrong

I remember watching your videos since around 2012, and I absolutely feel bad for you, seriously I've enjoyed every since videos you've made, from your thomas videos, modifications, and even the dark side videos, you make such amazing content, and seeing TH-cam just treating you like that, is just well, Disgraceful, Disgusting, and Despicable.
The biggest issue with this is that they mark videos for kids when it’s only just a video with thomas the tank. Or something like a kid’s toy. Because that is targeted for kids and they go and mark any video they see with trains like that because they think it’s safe. It’s such a stupid site.
From what I see related to the top ranking TH-cam Kids channel is the content is aimed at babies to 4 year olds. It's almost like a 'pre school' focused environment. And honestly no child under 3 should be entertained by a iPad or iPhone or any 'screen' device. The huge problem is 'screen addiction' 😳. You see very young children in prams looking at screens like zombies. They stop looking at the world around them and this is the beginning of a much bigger childhood development issue.
@@leokimvideo a child should be focused more on their own world instead of the internet. Maybe I’m a hypocrite when I’ve been watching your content since I was 6 or 7 and still take a school lunch or 2 to watch your videos but at the age of 4, children should not have a smart device.

i had the talking james its pretty beaten up. the tomy james is the first edition one, its well rare in a way and the talking james is really called talking james.
I was remembering the time you got the Tomy James and it was from episode 12 of you collecting toys and you describing it as ''it's okay'' and you saying it was in good condition sad to see it like this now but it remindes me of a channel called Custom trackmasters where he fixes old Trackmaster toys and makes them new again. I remember when you put Gordan on the "world's longest train" and now it in a state of disrepair and it makes me remember when you had a care free channel. When you did one of your early pool tracks videos you had a green Salty on the track which I have never seen ever since that video. For Chistmas I'm getting a second Percy 6 in one set. I hope one day your channel gets better and TH-cam stops treating you like garbage.

As a lawyer (although I don't do IP/media law), I agree that the guidance provided makes no sense, and I genuinely don't understand it. These definitions are so messy, and I'm not convinced the review process is anything more than an AI that spits out an answer. YT like to brag that it's the only creator site that directly rewards its members, but the way it does so is not without its trauma/difficulty.
I only just picked up on the gloss thing - I know they talk a lot about it for model trains, but I've never really considered it regarding Thomas toys - but it definitely makes them more premium and maybe less 'toy' like.
So many stories have been hinted at in your videos, it would be fascinating to hear them one day...
Now that YT Kids has settled in of sorts the website Social Blade has a listing of the top 'YTKids" channels. Basically these channels make content for very young children. This seems to be the target audience. I class this content as 'baby sitting / pre school' videos. If TH-cam used an age gate (log in to watch TH-cam videos) this would work far better Vs committing suicide to a video that has a wide audience appeal and it totally hidden once it's a YTKids videos. The Social Media lawyer talks about this option that Google refused to use and in the end it always comes back to money. The 'age gate' would work, and if a child is accessing the full TH-cam via a logged in parent account the responsibility of what the child is watching then falls on the parent. And this has been the argument from day one of of the YT Kids nightmare
Once Target Oz collapses the shoplifting story can be brought forward. Then I can read the letter I wrote to Target and explain their response. The staff person who did me over is the Union rep so they have a shield of being unsackable no matter how strong the complaint made against them is. Nothing like being suspected of shoplifting when your a customer who was spending between $10K to $14K a year in your store.
Re Google wanting us mugs to promote the 'Kids App' I was never ever going to agree with that. The silly little gifts they give you is still unopened at my place. I am always totally against anything that divides the audience on TH-cam. Maybe the biggest damage to my content was when the Gaming segment of TH-cam kicked in. I use to have a lot of Gamers looking at my videos, now they are all gone locked in their 'bubble' on TH-cam. Another very damaging event was the introduction of blasted Google Plus. Born in 2011, died in 2019. That was from the start a totally dumbass idea to play catch up with Facebook. The introduction split my Google account and I lost the connection between my core TH-cam channel and it's associated Gmail. I did a video about the trouble and a very kind Google staffer did reach out and assisted in attempting to make a fix. My account was changed to a 'Business account' which gave it more features but it's stuff I never use. Unfortunately my TH-cam channel & it's original Gmail could never be linked again. It's still a mess and not even the collapse of Google Plus helped fix the problem. I know quite a few other TH-camrs who had this split account issue. Aussie50 (now passed away) had the exact same split account and I know he spoke about it online. And then there's the inability to be Verified...wow that's a very long story for another day. Here is a company who knows ALL my personal details, private phone number, sole bank account, taxation info, personal address and who have spoken to me in person on multiple occasions yet I can't get verified because the system is driven by AI and is not human. Gotta love tech 🤬

It is a shame you are being buggered over by the site, there's so much I could see you doing. Its strange that some channels end up not getting as bashed by the YT Kids nonsense as others but don't give up bud, keep on chugging 👍
I won't lie, I would like to see more videos about your model railway bits again or even repair videos, that could probably snuff out the YT kids nonsense. Just really do something *you* enjoy and enjoy making, don't worry too much about how Google is buggering your videos because I'd like to see you truely happy, not stressed.
