    I learned so much about the rules and tactics listening to Tony Kubeck. Tony was able to point important situations of the game within the game.

      @@AmericasChoiceWell Tony wasn't stupid at all. Pretty easy to say those 1976Reds were one of the best teams assembled. Doesn't take a very high IQ the figure that out.

    By looking at the great Catfish Hunter you could never tell if he was winning or losing on the mound. Consistently even keeled and focused. One of my favorite pitchers of all time. Miss him. This Big Red Machine was hitting on all cylinders this post season. Frustrating for me then as a Yankee fan, appreciate them now for their greatness and the opportunity to see them live back then,

    “Look at em mob Perez at first base!” The camera stays on Griffey, then cuts to the crowd. You never see Tony again lmao

      Sadly, a lot of them are out there. They also tend to attract non-baseball and casual fans. Gee, I wonder why ? Biggest city ? 27 titles ?

    One thing Sparky Anderson knew after this game: This World Series wasn't coming back to Cincinnati. He said, "It's over in four."

    Rose Morgan Bench Perez it's just staggering first four batters , it's amazing the Reds only won 2 WS in the 70's

      Their everyday lineup was great hitting and fielding. Their pitching was a notch below, good but not great. MLB Network ranked the '75 Reds as the 2nd greatest team of the expansion era behind the '98 Yankees. The '76 Reds were picked at # 7.

      They were not fully formed in 1970 when they played the Orioles and in 72 they ran into an awesome A's team that won 3 in a row. The Reds pitching was decent, but they also had to beat LA just to win the division. Those 2 teams were solid and deep.

    • @Wixom2200
      @Wixom2200 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      70 Orioles better team. Proven by blowout . Reds super great team, they just ran into better teams. Case in point, they probably won't win the 1975 series if Rice is not out with an injury. You see. Good pitching USUALLY beats good to great hitting. See the 69 world series Mets had quietly great pitching AND combine that with average players ie Agee etc playing over their heads they SHOCKED the O's. Don't put stock in what people SAY and not the facts.

      You must remember the Reds 1970 starting was depleted , no Merritt who won 20 games , No Wayne Simpson who was 14 -2

    Only exciting game of the’76 series. The Yankees did not put their hits together in this series. Fred Stanley had a big hit in this game but also made a costly error. Bucky Dent’s arrival next year demoted Stanley to a backup infielder. He played more 2B than SS over the next 3 seasons. He saw some action in ‘78 post season as Willie Randolph was injured. However, Brian Doyle had a great World Series and many forget that Stanley was there at all. Stanley played with the Yanks from ‘73-‘80.

    Well, I should be a baseball analyst.
    Figured out why the world-famous Yankees choked in the Game 2 WS game---and lost it.
    The NY infielder who was able to pick up a Ken Griffey grounder in the bottom of the 9th SHOULD HAVE HELD THE BALL and let Griffey scored an infield hit.
    The infielder paid a heavy price trying to rush the throw to the first baseman to get Griffey out - but the ball blasts through that infielder into the dugout. The umpire then awarded Griffey 2nd base unchallenged.
    Another mistake - the Reds should not have walked George Bench, if Griffey was not at 2nd and instead at 1st. I know Tony Perez was a very dangerous hitter for Cincinnati's Big Red Machine in the mid-1970s. (I remember that slump that he had in the 1975 World Series that was broken by a homer at Riverfront in Game 4 or Game 5 probably). If I were a manager, I would let Catfish face Johnny Bench, even though he was just as dangerous as Perez. So if Bench does hit a basehit deep into the outfield, the outfielders for Cincy could do a good relay to gun down Bench to significantly thwart the Reds rally.
    That's my two bits. If Billy Martin would have done that, and if the infielder kept the ball and sacrifice that infield hit w/o an error to Griffey, the Yanks would have a bit of a better chance to win the ballgame in extra innings.

    Martin was not a good manager. He treated his starters like it was still the 1950s. The Yankees had one of baseball's best bullpens in 1976. Yet in Game 1, with the team losing, Martin uses his closer Sparky Lyle for 2.1 innings presumably leaving him unavailable in Game 2. But regardless no manager today would have been sending Hunter out there for the ninth inning with all those fresh arms in the pen.

  • @theswingmechanic

    Why didn’t Martin pinch hit gamble for Willie Randolph in the last inning wtf.

    People say this '76 squad needed Reggie to win WS. The '77 Yankees had Jackson, granted. But I don't think the '77 Yankees could have beat the '76 Reds. I don't think anyone from that era could. If '77 Yanks beat '76 Reds it would be in 7 games. However, realistically, I think '76 Reds beats '77 Yankees, albeit in 6 games maybe even in 5.

      @rafaelramirez1507 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SpottedSharks 123 639 1 0 01 Don Gullett in the 1976 world series was 1-0 with an era of 1.23 in 1 game v.s. New York Yankees, also want to mention that the Cincinnati Reds were loaded with starting pitching in '76 , even Jack Billingham didn't get to Start any of the WSG against yanks (eventhough he got victory v.s. N.Y. but that was in relief, he got to only pitch 3 innings in two games but did excellent in series) where in 1977 Don Gullett with the N.Y. Yankees started 2 games , was 0-1 with a horrible era of 6.39 ... so I'd take '76 Reds (without Gullett) versus '77 yanks with Gullett and Jackson , The Big Red Machine was that good 👍

    • @rafaelramirez1507
      @rafaelramirez1507 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jonathan , the 1976 Yankees to me was a much better team than the '77 Yankees , remember that in '76 they went against the best of the American league and got 97 wins where as in '77 (eventhough they won 100 games) they got it much easier with the Toronto Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners joining in the fray in the A.L. ... true that the Yankees had Torrez, Figueroa and Catfish but only Figgy won over 15 games with 19 victories , after that it was only Torrez with 14 wins where as in '76 the Yankees had three 17 game winners 😮 wow! ... so in a more detail phrase, in my opinion The 1976 Big Red Machine would of beaten the 1977 New York Yankees ,even with Reggie Jackson on their side 👍
