Twitch memes aside, the way you praised Narfman in the interview was awesome. That's really just a testament to your character and the vibe of the SMB3 community overall.
"to get all 4 off screen wand grabs... it just won't happen" - Mitch 2024. Putting this here for when Mitch gets them in the new WR run a year down the road haha.
Damn, Narfman has his mind right. Always glad to hear from someone who gets it. There's a lot of ways to live life right and it's cool hearing from someone in this kind of hobby that's doing so.
9:31 I really appreciate this mindset of turning mutually shared struggles among SMB3 runners into an "absurd joke". There's a sense of comradery within the community when we take specific mistakes or RNG outcomes and give them nicknames and memes because they're things everyone invested in the grind can relate to. All of which goes to show that the journey is just as much meaningful as the goals we're aiming for. Congratulations, Narfman.
This was a really awesome video, and as someone who is older and working when I can on creating a youtube channel, it was also really encouraging. Thanks for taking the time to put this together
I really enjoyed this. Mitch youre such a great interviewer. I think itd be cool to see you do a weekly or semi weekly series of interviews with speedrunners. Youre also an amazing ambassador for speed running. Keep up the great content bro.
@@Mitchflowerpower should I just ban myself now or? JK we all know you’ll be back on top as soon as you decide you want to be. For now I’m loving the more laid back content my guy.
That was exactly the level of wholesome I would expect from you, Mitch. Narfman seems like the kind of dude that speedrunning communities everywhere love to have representing them.
NGL, I didn't expect to see this in my feed. Mind you, I don't closely follow SMB3, but I guess that's the power of SummoningSalt. Anyway, I figured there was still a few seconds to shave off despite how popular (and old) SMB3 is, but I figured you'd just be shaving off those seconds whenever you felt like it. I didn't expect to see someone else get it, but I'm not surprised it's a Kaizo player (given how absolutely ABSURD Kaizo hacks are). Anyway, congratulations to Narfman for the new record, and good luck to you getting the record back!
Mitch you warm my heart with your very Canadian response to someone breaking such a personal milestone. Makes me proud as a fellow Canuck. Great discussion too, super encouraging to any new speedrunners. Wholesome AF. Keep up the good work bud.
That mentality of joking about the struggle would be so good to have in life in general as well, instead of focusing on how difficult it is, and failing even more because of it
Great video Mitch - Narfman's streams are always a fun time, it's been awesome watching his growth over the years. His early hammer grind has been fun to follow along with!
I heard there's a job opening at a doctor's office by you. Doctor Vinnie Boombatz is looking for someone to help out in the office and also help the kids with their Mario 3 runs.
I really liked watching this. You're still going down in history as the most important contributor to the history of Super Mario Bros 3. Not just speedrunning, but period, mate. Also, you could take ten years off, see where the record goes, and come back and it would be just like riding a bike. Maybe someone will discover a new trick that will change how the game plays... you never know! But don't ever fully, "retire!"
I have to check out some SMB3 Kaizo streams, for the longest time i feel like this game / engine was overlooked compared to SMW / SMM, but i'm very glad people are finally making it!
Awesome video! I'm really burned out by how toxic twitch and live youtube chat is these days so I haven't been around in the chat but still wanna send my support! Love what you do sir this interview eas just awesome.
7:20 "To encourage you I think that anyone out there, old, young, blind, can pick up this game and speedrun it and at least beat mitches world record, just like I did~" just kidding Great interview, great content, and motivation to see some new tech 😂
While practicing 7-7 pipe clip I did a red pipe glitch instead. I went to the targeted location of the pipe but there was no animation of entering. Mario disappeared instantly upon hitting the pipe and for about 2-3frames it started outlining red but as in the wrong warp glitch and then I was on the other side. It saved about 1 second compared to entering the pipe normal and i saved p speed. Unfortunately I'm new to speedrunning and as it was just practice I wasnt recording. Im waiting on a new harddrive to come in the mail so I'm practicing on the NES console right bros. Does anyone know whay happened? Maybe i havent watched enough videos, but if you could do it every pipe it would significantly change at least the TAS record.
What I've learned watching speedrunning, if it's humanly possible, it will be done at one point, no matter how slim the odds are Someone will be crazy enough to grind the absolute perfect run if that's the only way to save a few frames
I have (unofficial) WR’s for Crazy Taxi Catch A Ride on GBA. Not website verified because they only offer Crazy Box and I do long runs and 10 Crazy Minutes. If anyone can get past the super high quality realistic graphics and mega high frame rate I’d love to have some challengers 😂 10 Crazy Minutes record is $101K. Long Play record is $183K. I’ve mapped 42/68 customers which will make learning much easier.
I don't try to speed run. I just play the entire game but typically it takes 3 hours but sometimes I get done in two and I'm like shit because sometimes I'm doing it purposely to pass that amount of time lol
Gives you something to aim for getting the record back. Just look at SM1 back and forth records for a longtime. Course now there so good its hard to improve on it talking about the under 5m record.
Sitting here w my gf who obviously knows nothing about smb3 speed running and she said "what the frick are these dudes even saying"? Kinda crazy to think about but yea, someone from the outside this seems like a foreign language 😂
Time to give up the Wendy's dream and get back to the grind. Any chance on trying to get this record back? Maybe adding a counter to your gauntlet runs? Ypur still the goat MFP!

@@Airlord3670 seriously... they said it was impossible to beat mike tysons punch out blind folded... but here we are lol
What a gracious interview. I just recently watched the Summoning Salt video about the history of the SMB3 speedrun, so this is especially fun to see.
Not gonna lie one bit, but narfman getting this record while being 37 really encouraged me in general
Time to retake the record then.
sad to see the record go but this was awesome! you're a truly great interviewer, really good questions and you listen well.

Not really stolen, you embraced his victory and congratulated him.
Wow what a W for smb3 speed run history! Gg Narfman!
I'm so excited to watch Mitch take it back again!

I understood that reference.

Great interview, Mitch!

Sick vid thanks for the shoutout Narfman 😂 I am reset king 😉
Real cool to see this interview!
You held the record for 6 years which is still amazing!
You are still a legend to me :D
Thanks!
Sadly holding a record for a certain time means nothing.

Pure class interview for Mitch.

6 years a long time but u can beat it again!
It's ok, Mitch. You're still the preeminent 100% SMB3 speed runner.
It’s incredible how you can start off a video with a South Park reference but still end up looking like a class act.
Well, on a positive note, at least the video title wasn't clickbait.
That mentality of joking about the struggle would be so good to have in life in general as well, instead of focusing on how difficult it is, and failing even more because of it

Couldn't agree more!
@14:20 That feeling is called "accomplishment." =p
*calls Tompa* We got a problem.
😂
I bet it wont be long until Mitch takes the record back.
Where I download practice rom for super mario bros 3 (for experimenting)
I love his Nelson laugh when you say thanks for stealing my record lmao
Could you put the info from narfman in the description?
What rhymes with Mitch? Ditch, which is what you arent about to do with this record, youve got this!
I heard there's a job opening at a doctor's office by you. Doctor Vinnie Boombatz is looking for someone to help out in the office and also help the kids with their Mario 3 runs.
I went to him one time and he said i was overweight... I said i want a second opinion he said you're ugly too
Great interview and video. Definitely was motivational and is making me want to pick up a controller snd give another shot at speedrunning
You're still a huge contributing factor to the ongoing history of the game. There is more to come, whatever you choose.

Since the SMB3 WR is so tough right now, have you considered going back to Ghostbusters (NES) glitchless %?
I'm very sorry for your loss; I know you're taking it hard. No Diddy.
