Ah, the Sony TC-40 - the recorder used by Carl Kolchak, reporter and reluctant monster hunter in my favorite ABC TV movie of the Week, "The Nightstalker" (1972). I stopped by for some repair tips to bring my 50th anniversary Halloween costume up to snuff. Thanks! 😃👍
I was working on an NEC PC-8300 recently which had a similar black foam stuck to an RF shield that transferred to the main board once the foam went soft. I found, much to my surprise, that alcohol dissolved the foam. This would be trickier to do on a mechanism without getting liquified foam leaking everywhere but perhaps a qtip slightly moistened with alcohol would do the trick?
I rarely have any luck with IPA when removing sticky adhesive ... WD-40 produce a "Fast-Drying Contact Cleaner" in their Specialist range, it instantly dissolves the sticky, usually a couple of applications as it flashes off quite quickly but you'll never struggle with IPA again
@@HutchCA I've used this to get rid of sticky labels on new plastic boxes without problems. It does say for use on plastics and rubber, so you should be okay. It's mostly C6 and C7 alkanes. It does mention cyclics but as always test on a small spot before-hand. I'm happy to try it out on your behalf if you have a particular plastic you're concerned about.

Looks like a simplified version of the TC-45 mechanism (with a few minor differences) so this video would be pretty useful for owners of those too.
Yeah. I have a TC45 also and they are similar but different enough.
The choice of "Blue Danube" always makes me think I'm docking with a Space Station in Elite.
How much are these?

where can i find that kind of foam anti-vibration tape? do you know what it's called?
The old tape that I removed? No idea. It's much thinner than any weather striping tape I've seen.
