Some of you wanted to see the glass smash, and so did I. So I actually went to the desert and damage tested these things to the point of breaking. Epic! Editing that video today, and will have it up next week. (The purpose of this experiment was to see if it would implode on its own under normal working conditions)
GRANT. How does liquid nitrogen react in a vacuum chamber. Let's see. I mean, if water boils down because of such low pressure, how will nitrogen react? LIKE if you'd see it!
Umbra Games that's a bad idea. It evaporates and thus will raise the pressure inside the jar. You'll just get it to evaporate away quicker and freeze his air pump as it pumps super cooled nitrogen
If your worried about shrapnel and such. just cut a peice of that acryllic tube and have it around the glass incase it does go boom it will be contained.
Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" Yup A buddy bought them for me in florida. O only have two of the four left but i also make a lot of things like knives, swords, ninja stars, and so on. Amateur blacksmith.
The bottle popped because atmospheric pressure is actually around 15psi, which counteracts the 50psi in the bottle. Remove the atmospheric pressure and the pressure inside the bottle will have less force holding it in technically, along with the water within the bottle boiling raising the interior pressure. Love the videos man!
I recently made a vacuum chamber using an identical cookie jar. Was very concerned that it would implode. Now that I've seen your videos, I'm more confident that it will not. Nevertheless, I built a Plexiglas cover to surround it because I'll be doing demos for small kids. Thanks for the videos! ! !
You should wrap a layer or two of clear tape around the outside. Press it down neatly so no air bubbles get in to make a clear almost invisible layer. That way if it implodes there is a little bit of structure left (obviously the tape wont shatter) to hold it together and not send glass flying everywhere. Kind of like how car windshields work. Obviously you would lose the airtight seal but I figure it would reduce the amount of glass that flies around the room.
Grant no matter what anyone tells you about if your channel is crappy keep doing what you're doing you bring a smile to my face with the constant uploads l love you
Hello Mr.Grant Tompson i have a request can you do ''Touch Powder'' in vaccum chamer please because you said is very sensitive that even a feather can iginte it what about preassure
I think it would be neat to add small tidbits like "the reason the bottle expands is because of Boyle's law, which is an inverse relationship between volume and pressure". Although I knew this, some of your subscribers may not and I don't feel that it would take away from the entertainment aspect of the video as long as the explanation portion was short and sweet. thanks for all of the awesome videos!
+mohammed albawardi The king of random did a video before, but it was very unprofessional, so I want to see him do it again, this time with a vacuum chamber.
Justin Advils the on,y thing would happen is that it would barely crack. If you ever put a frozen dinner inside of the microwave, that is what's going to happen.
+Micah Boarts It won't feel hot or even burn tho. You'll probably feel some kind of pressure or lack of pressure and suffocate. Also blood will boil so imagine what that would do to your heart and brain.
Zach Coleman it's not showing me any of your replies, I only see them in the email notification. but anyway, I never said the sugar rocket would burn, I don't know the chemistry of it. but anything reaction that is self-oxidizing, meaning it generates oxygen, should work under a vacuum. heat black powder with, say, a light to the point of ignition, and it should burn.

If you want a taller chamber that has straight sides, look in the vase section, i have one that is about 7 1/2" dia, 19 1/2" high, and has about 1/4" walls. See if you can pick up a needle valve (used for gas) to regulate the amount of air you let in, should be able to control the rise of media under test, i would mount an extra TEE so you still have the big valve for emergencies and depressurising
you should keep drawing a vacuum with water in an open dish and a thermometer in the water in the chamber. after it starts boiling you'll see it's temperature start dropping followed by it freezing. this demonstrates the principle used in refrigeration.
The difference between atmospheric pressure and a perfect vacuum is 14.7PSI. Pulling a vacuum around the bottle only increases the pressure inside the bottle by 14.7 PSI.
Grant, do you think a M-80 firecracker would work in the vacuum chamber? Provided it had a long enough fuse giving you time to seal and vacuum before it exploded. The reason I thought of a M-80 was because they use a Visco fuse. I wonder if such a fuse would still continue to work in a vacuum.
Hi, You should try freezing water in the vacuum chamber. If you keep the pressure low enough for enough time all the high energy level H2O particles will boil away so it should become solid ice on room temperature after boiling in room temperature
I think that you should make an another channel where you explains what's happening i the video like, why that bottle gets bigger when you put it in the vaccum chamber. That would be awsome!

so cool idea
Umbra Games as my opinion maybe the vacuum chamber will keep on sucking the gas of liquid nitrogen which is boiled and vaporized.
Umbra Games I think cody's lab did that, but I'm don't know for sure.

Put a wireless mic in the vaccum chamber and maybe it makes some kind of a sound because of the different atmosfere level.
MarkoTheGamer sound doesn't travel through a vacuum
It does travel though solids though.. the mic will probably be touching some surface inside the chamber.
M3TR01DFANBOY I knew that but for some reason I thought it would work, maybe it might because the pressure is getting lower slowly?
M3TR01DFANBOY sound doesn't but some stuff that makes a sound would, like an explosion.

was the fluid realy boiling? can you make pasta in it?
David Stedile for pasta you need heat. boiling just a changing state of matter from liquid to air.
Yeah, the boiling doesn't cook things, the heat does. That's why you have to use a pressure cooker if you're climbing on a high mountains.
it is literally getting colder look up codey's video
as pressure decreases the boiling point does also so if your pressure gets low enough the water can boil but be cold as ice. so no cooking noodles.
+travis yeah man exactly grant actually said that in the video so if david payed more attention he would knew
Interesting video that actually pertains well to something I wanted to test. Thanks for the video.

Yes. There's oxidizer so it will burn just fine.

Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" can you put dry ice in vacum chamber to maybe make dry water?
cool
actually cold
Abdullah Arif *Dry Water*?
... How would that work water is wet

It would be possible - CO2 sublimes. This means it turns directly from a solid to a gas and visa versa. There is no in between.
Imagine what that can do to a human body 💀💀🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊
Basically ur head will grow bigger, ur blood will boil and then usually ur head pops.

your head wont grow bigger, your blood would bubble and you would suffocate.
Omar the spit will boil off your tongue and the water from your eyes, imagine how that feels

can you burn a sugar rocket in that vacuum

My anxiety rises as the bottle rises
you should keep drawing a vacuum with water in an open dish and a thermometer in the water in the chamber. after it starts boiling you'll see it's temperature start dropping followed by it freezing. this demonstrates the principle used in refrigeration.
Imagine a vacuum chamber running inside a vacuum chamber.
You should wrap see-through tape around the glas jar. It would provide some protection from the glas in the case that it were to explode
Rest in peace , King
The difference between atmospheric pressure and a perfect vacuum is 14.7PSI. Pulling a vacuum around the bottle only increases the pressure inside the bottle by 14.7 PSI.
Hey Grant, try adding to this experiment by using the water that was "boiling" in the vacuum chamber to cook something.
"Thanks for watching?" Thanks for sharing!
2million views in 10 minutes your obviously doing the right thing
Hi Grant, I am loving your vacuum videos, you need to put an ice cube inside the vacuum to see how it reacts, I am curious to see if it sublimes.
Okay, so we have seen you make a vacuum chamber. Now lets see you make a high pressure chamber!
Love you Grant
Grant, you really need to do some experiments that involve the Slow Mo Guys!
You can put clear tape(or something like this) on the jars, that way if it burst you are probably won't get hurt by shrapnels.

What will gummy bears do in a vacuum chamber
You need a cold trap for that pump because the moisture will hurt the pump overtime. Plus they are pretty cool too.
Hi,
You should try freezing water in the vacuum chamber. If you keep the pressure low enough for enough time all the high energy level H2O particles will boil away so it should become solid ice on room temperature after boiling in room temperature
I feel like the number of vacuum chamber videos is about to increase. :)
Ever try using your vacuum for making coffee? I hear the lower boiling point makes for some really nice brew.
I think that you should make an another channel where you explains what's happening i the video like, why that bottle gets bigger when you put it in the vaccum chamber. That would be awsome!
