Great video! Probably best emo video on youtube. If I chose my top 10 it would probably be 10. Christie Front Drive - Christie Front Drive 9. Swing Kids - Swing Kids 8. The Van Pelt - Sultans of Sentiment 7. Evergreen - Seven Songs 6. Mineral - EndSerenading. 5 boys Life - Departures and Landfalls 4. Don Martin 3 - Don Martin 3 3. Cap’n Jazz - “Shmap’n Shmazz” 2. Rainer Maria - Look Now Look Again 1. Indian Summer - Science
Dear you was the worst Jawbreaker album next to bivouac. 24hr revenge therapy and unfun are far better exampls, even for this video. I will admit dear you is objectively good, but for Jawbreaker; its shit
Great list! Here are some overlooked albums not mentioned above. Piebald - When Life Hand You Lemons (1997) Seam - The Problem With Me (1993) Split Lip (Chamberlain) - Fate's Got a Driver (1995) By a Thread - Last of the Daydreams (1999) Vitreous Humor - ST EP (1996) Planes Mistaken For Stars - St (1999) Grade - Under the Radar (1999) No Knife - Fire in the City of Automatons (1999) Garrison - Bend Before the Break EP (1999) Mock Orange - Nines and Sixes (1998)
I rediscovered Clarity from Jimmy Eat World recently. It’s an absolute gem and a near perfect album. It’s definitely an essential 90’s Emo album for me.
Nice! Indian Summer, Breakwater and Strictly Ballroom. Some More Essential 90s Recs: Evergreen - Seven Songs Anything from The Hated Lync - These Are Not Fall Colors Yaphet Kotto - Syncopated Synthetic Laments for Love
Bravo man. This is one of the first EMO lists I've seen that mentions bands that desperately needed to be mentioned.. Braid gets slept on all the time. Breakwater, Strictly Ballroom, Policy Of 3...🔥 Best list I've seen so far on YT.
Still Life's "From Angry Heads with Skyward Eyes" is essential to me. One of the best, but often overlooked emo bands, but in the mid-90s they were considered one of the more influential bands on the sound.
24hr Revenge Therapy-Jawbreaker, this conversation Is ending starting right now-Knapsack, Our Own Wars-Small Brown Bike, and Clarity-Jimmy Eat World all deserved to be on this list in my opinion.
The Power of Failing is my favourite album ever. My neurodivergent brain feels emotions so strongly that Chris Simpson’s vocal and guitar tone just bring me catharsis so selflessly.
Oof, so many good albums. Shout out to Hour of the Star and Broken Hearts are Blue for music that will stick with you for a long time as well. If you'd ever like to check out the result of these influences outside of the US, a band from my hometown in Brazil called Festina Lente (2004-2006) has me revisiting their only existing recordings from time to time. th-cam.com/video/tYXvuTYSZ6U/w-d-xo.html
There’s unfortunately not a lot to find. Just the demo I talked about (which is on TH-cam) and their 7” single with Five and Seven. The band also did another 7” with the band Closure and their song Eleven is featured on there. Not much else. There’s apparently unreleased stuff out there but we’ll probably never hear it.
we all have our own interpretations of what emo is, but from a strictly historical standpoint, emo stemmed off the dc hardcore scene... so its not really punk.
@@poppunktwinkledork hardcore's full name is hardcore-punk - it's punk rock with the speed heaviness & shoutiness taken to the extreme - so hardcore is actually a subgenre of punk - it's widely acceptable to call hardcore 'punk' as it does fall under that umbrella ✌️

I would maybe have included Promise Ring’s 30 Degrees Everywhere album (1996). It’s an overlooked midwest emo gem. Or maybe Jawbreaker’s Dear You?

Hey, thanks for the album recommendations. It is nice hearing of more obscure albums!
Still Life's "From Angry Heads with Skyward Eyes" is essential to me. One of the best, but often overlooked emo bands, but in the mid-90s they were considered one of the more influential bands on the sound.
Diary is one of my personal favorites of all time. Its kind of understated just how influential it was on me.
24hr Revenge Therapy-Jawbreaker, this conversation Is ending starting right now-Knapsack, Our Own Wars-Small Brown Bike, and Clarity-Jimmy Eat World all deserved to be on this list in my opinion.

If OoA 90mph and Cap N' Jazz are not the top 2!?!... I'm stoked to see what you come up with!
Also, as an Midwest, Ohio kid that was there, I hope you'll cover the west coast heartattack and Colorado scene just as heavy. TY!
Shout out to Richmond and Gainesville scenes as well!
Wait did you mention Lincoln scene, Mineral and what was Bernie's label?...sorry, memory lane...
Shout out to PA. Samuel album was big with me...
Sensefield(Reason to Believe) of course! cornerstone!
We are back!
I’m tardy!
Breakwater: “Downtrodden and hopeful.”
You’re speaking my language.

Water and solutions
Underrated album here. This should be talked about more.
To be honest with you I haven't heard this one. Definitely gonna give it a listen.
Water & Solutions is a stone cold classic
Stoked!
Let's fuckin go!
sensefield building, Chamberlain fates got a driver
Clarity
I knew American Snoozeball would be on the list, but no Cap'n Jazz or Promise Ring?? I'm personally offended lol
yeah cap'n jazz should've been on this list, at least. they were super influential to the genre and were the reason american football exists.
Hey man love your videos.
Thanks man. I appreciate it!
where's Mineral?
Mineral starts at 10:55
Mineral and Sunny Day Real Estate need to be on here. I’d even put Van Pelts’ “Sultans of Sentiment” up there
where can i find more breakwater?

Handsome ! not sure if it's emo or post hard-core or even a 90s album but well good anyway
Emo to me is punk transitioning into indie rock - while still maintaining it's honesty & emotional intensity 🤟 🎶
