Jaden is the protagonist I've related to the most he's the one who made me fall in love with duel monsters and his Elemental HEROs still have an impact to me
great video! we JUST watched GX for the first time through these past 2 months. we did seasons 1-2 dub, seasons 3-4 subbed. jaden's character progression is truly a beautiful, if sad, display of what is lost during the transition from childhood to adulthood. he goes from a carefree boy who only cares about his favorite game and hanging out with his friends, to becoming somewhat of a recluse, burdened by trauma, loss, and responsibility. it is bittersweet but incredibly relatable to anybody who has had to overcome traumas in their own lives. Jaden is a reminder that we are who we are *because* of the path we have walked; our actions and choices, but also the things that have happened to us, all make us who we are. we can't turn backwards, we can only ever keep moving forward in this life. old things lost but new things gained. for all of the chaotic, other-worldly, fantasy situations he falls into throughout the back half of that series, he feels like the most relatable protagonist of yu-gi-oh to me.
I couldnt have said it better myself! Jaden represents the transition of kid to adult and its sad to see your childhood self die. But Jaden was able to rediscover his old self and carry that with him as he grows older. I think that is a beautiful message for kids transitioning to adulthood.
In the first 2 seasons, Jaden was always smiling, to the point it was a shock whenever he didn't In season 4, he fakes smiles so people stop worrying. Also in the season 4 tag duel, I realized the reason he enjoys dueling AGAINST Alexis more than WITH her trauma. The last person he teamed up with was Jesse, who pretty much sacrificed himself. So when its someone he cares for that much, he fears a repeat, feeling the need to do everything in his power to protect them But when fighting said person, his brain just registers it as a duel between friends
Jaden is the greatest protagonist because, unlike any other protagonist he actually had to go through so much trauma without anyone helping him. His parents left him home alone all the time because of their jobs and since the people in his neighborhood were to afraid of him because of what Yubel did he didn’t have any friends either. So when he came to DA he was looking for a new start, with a happy-go-lucky personality and as the years in DA went and with all the threats he had to face and the way he handled the situations, no bat him a eye or thought about how he took all of this mentally. Season 3-4 and the best examples for that since it actually shows how much it did to his mental health and how little the friends he made really cared about how he took all of this. So yea Jaden is the best Yu-Gi-Oh protagonist, because of more than one reason, he went through more than any other protagonist, I mean he IS the only protagonist with NO loving parental figure. He is my fav😊😊😊😊💜💜💜
I agree with you everything except 2 things. His friends really did care about him and his mentality. Thats why they sacrificed themselves to save jaden from the supreme king. Also yusei had no parental figure. His dad died and idk where his mom was
@@LateNightStrawhat1 Yusei had Martha who was and still is like a mother to him and the only friends that really cared about his mantle health were Jesse, Axel, Jim, Zane and even Aster. Don‘t get me wrong he has friends that really care for him but the ones that did weren’t really part of the main group like Alexis, Chazz, Hasselbarry and Syrise( is this how you spell it I don’t really know?), not to mention Syrise needed to be convinced by Zane to basically forgive Jaden after he abandoned him. But this is just my opinion and it’s fine if you don’t agree😊😊💜💜
one thing i did sorta like about season 4 is that jaden just starts otking people because it feels like he's just fully out of patience and it honestly makes him feel like an actual threat rather than the sorta mary sue he felt like in the earlier seasons. the tag duel between tyranno/blair and jaden/alexis even shows this because he's with friends but ends up completely ignoring alexis outside of using her monster to help him otk tyranno and blair because that shows how done he is with it since season 1/2 jaden would never do that to his friends and it shows the effect that constantly being in life threatening situations would do to someone especially when they're just supposed to be a school kid
@@pn2294 because at first he was basically winning by using a deck that belonged to a pro and magically getting new cards like the philosophers stone whereas his neo spacian deck was actually made by him. A pros deck would make winning easy but making your own deck is a lot more difficult plus compared to the first episode where he beats crowlers ancient gear deck, season 4 jaden has a lot more experience so him obliterating people makes sense compared to how much he was winning at first since in the first couple of seasons he only lost a couple times
Jaden growth was suppose to mirror the growth that their audience would have also lightly been goring thru in their lives. when you are young u r happy go lucky you know what's going on but not really. Season 3 showed that his actions had consequences and that he couldn't stubble his way thru life. also tackling depression. Season 4 shows a more mature jaden that understands he's responsibility to the world and and to stop the evils that only he can stop. He became a character he needed to be to save everyone. But part of being an adult is after you become the person you need to be then you can enjoy yourself and have fun again. But that fun comes after business. Jaden's journey parallels the experiences that all teenagers must go thru when learning to grow up.
YES EXACTLY!!! Growing up is honestly one of the most stressful times and navigating that is beyond difficult. But Jaden gave us a road map of how to deal with adolescence.
Jaden is the reason I use Elemental Hero decks. They felt the most fun and diverse. Plus the character himself felt amazing to watch. This whole video summarized it and I appreciate the Jaden Yuki love
6:17 Actually during Duelist Kingdom, Yugi is briefly scared to duel after Kaiba's mid-duel suicide ploy on the balcony, and Atem attempting to follow through with an attack that would kill him.
Jadens experiences in season 3 are highly skimmed over here. I understand length of time and all, but it also undermines how being IN the other dimension affected him, causing his decisions to be more erratic. Also the factor that yubel had taken jessie to said world and jaden felt responsible hence him desperatly trying to find him, at any cost. Those two things alone factor in jadens decisions and how the king ended up gaining control of him. Let alone the fact that you are wrong about yubel starting said war. This war had already been going on before she got there. No one even knew about her, she was on the sidelines just watching jaden suffer to find jessie, who she was jelouse of and possesing. She knew the kings spirit was incharge of the worlds war, and said spirit was connected to jaden. So him being in the same place as said persona would eventually lead to jaden falling to the spirits influence. Which happened without her needing to even lift a finger. She was originally his protector, so she always knew about his powers as a child and who he was. His parents knew too, hence why his father gave him her card. This is also why they used science to block his powers as a child when yubel became too much for him and was causing him pain and trouble. Yugi woke those powers back up in episode 1. But jadens supreme king spirit was still partially bound to the other world, so we never fully see its interactions in the first two seasons. Plus with his memory block his parents made, he didnt remember yubel or why he was given her. So he was unaware of his powers of darkness and his being a reincarnation of a king from another world. Honestly his parents should have talked to him more about it, seeing as they knew about it. But alas, its yugioh the only adults allowed are teaching figures and villians. Sometimes teaching villians even. But not just to be there to help on the sidelines. Sigh. Anyhow, thank you for supporting jaden. He deserves all the support for how awesome he is. And for being such a great representative of adhd brains. ❤
Gx was one of the most underrated shows Jaden character development to carefree to a serious teenage that has no fun in duels Chazz spoiled child to mature adult Syrus from a coward to brave
Happy lated birthday and you're not the only one who loves Jaden as your favorite Yugioh Protagonist cuz Jaden is my all time #1 favorite Yugioh protagonist and character throughout the entire Yugioh franchise series. When I first saw him he reminded me of Sonic and Goku cuz of their nature and personality in the beginning but Kyo from the kof series because jaden had no interest in his studies like kyo who didn't had any interest in his studies. Fun fact Jaden's japanese voice actor KENN voiced Kronhen from KOF15. All honestly I love EVERYTHING about Jaden as a whole especially him developing in season 4 but it does hurts my hurt to see him suffer which he doesn't deserve it Jaden deserves happiness and love especially how he was in the beginning so I'm glad Yugi helped Jaden regain his love for dueling back and his purpose from the beginning I love him so much especially how hot handsome and attractive he is. I enjoy listening to Jaden and see him duel and all of these reasons why Jaden will forever be my all time #1 top favorite Yugioh protagonist and character

It took a "passionate duel" to restore his passion for dueling, I find this really iconic with Yugi despite his lack of screen time as the voice of reason to help those who reject their past or have conflict with it, it wouldn't surprise me if little Yugi, took up on archeology and came across artifacts that could aide in mending those who face difficulties with their past. Since his best friend, Atem was all about that, along with everyone he emcountered during his journey. Be they enemies to overcome or friends to win over. The match with Seto really highlighted this in battle city finals. As in Yugi's words he could have been better, but his constant neglect of his past holds him back.
im not sure if the dub goes into this cus i only watched the sub, but jaden and yubel's relationship actually stretches back tens of thousands of years to his earlier life as the young supreme king, yubel's form is the result of a mutated armor she had to don to become his guardian and protect the supreme king, jaden promised her eternal love as gratitude but eventually died and the two were separated for thousands of years until pegasus found her soul and placed it into the card, but this reincarnated judai could not see or talk to her which pained her, but she still sought to protect him but ended up causing harm to everyone around him who she percieved as a threat, jaden was placed in a mental hospital and made subject to many examinations by doctors and scientists which depressed him, when jaden won a contest by kaiba that was a celebration of duel monsters and his satellite technology, jaden sent his cards to space which pained yubel, who misunderstood this pain as jaden's love, and so she would inflict this pain upon jaden and everyone he cared for - for that is what she thinks love is.

I'm sorry for rambling but yeah. He's got a really nice voice, especially when he sings. (see season 2 ed song for the sub. bothkennandjudaiarealsocutebutpretendyoudidntreadthat) GX was a huge part of my childhood and the only YGO anime i actually rewatch from time to time no matter how long it was. and thank you for making this video! Im glad a lot of people appreciate Judai's character as much as i do.
I think it is really interesting and fascinating how Jaden is more or less the complete opposite of Yugi in almost every way - at the start of DM Yugi is an introverted and shy kid who is getting bullied with only one friend, Anzu. Jaden on the other hand is an extroverted kid who finds many friends easily (Yes, he was alone as a kid due to Yubel, but he was able to make friends before the demon started putting them in comas). DM was a lot about the power of friendship - we see this several times during the show. GX on the other hand shows how friends can sometimes be detrimental to your health when they keep relying on you to solve all their problems - Jaden feels like he needs to save everyone and handle everything, which of course causes him massive amounts of stress and anxiety. Whereas Yugi is a regular kid, Jaden is a reincarnation of someone else. Where Yugi befriends the spirit of Atem and works together with him, Yubel is the antagonist for Jaden and the Supreme king is an obstacle he has to overcome. Finally, the end of their respective shows are different as well; Yugi has parted with Atem and is surrounded by his friends. In contrast, Jaden has fused with Yubel and left his friends behind to go on his own adventure. (Except the ghost of his teacher and his cat haha)
I feel one thing that goes overlooked about GX was it was what the franchise needed. The original duel monsters changed it rules like 3 to 5 times. That constant rule changing made it really had to learn the rules from the anime. The concept of GX was solid and one where you could properly learn the rules of Yu GI Oh as they at the time.

To be fair, Yugi did want to quit dueling in Duelist Kingdom because Atem almost killed Kaiba, but this is only explicitly stated in the sub. In the sub, Yugi and Atem were not both in control like they are in the Dub,Yugi basically 'blacked out' when Atem took control.
I agree but i feel like this is very hard to understand this point of GX just by having only the english dub. Even some comments here, show they dont either get gx or understand jaden. The sub without all the stupid jokes during the first 2 seasons make it very strong story wise. You can ask anyone and they will always say gx was only good during season 3, maybe 4, and season 1 and 2 are campy comedy trash. Season 1 is full of nonsense but it did carry some good moments like chazz proving himself to be jaden's rival, the message of how you can believe you have free will but no matter what if something is set by a higher power you cant run away from that outcome(something we actually challenged properly in season 2), which is why banner is sort of a failed version of jaden, they were both "alchemists" who could make miracles but he saw it in twisted way and after ruining himself he wanted to see if jaden would fall too. Thats why he tested him. And why after dying he stayed with him and he is sort of the deadbeat dad and jaden resents him but keeps him around. Season 2 also gets bad treatment but there is some great stuff, Jaden takes a back seat but everyone gets moments to grow, Syrus stands up to his brother which is wild considering he would crap himself thinking about talking to him, Phoenix also gets great moments from being the top guy to being nothing and trying to save his friend, and Chazz going from being the rebel clown to being the genex champ. Yes season 3 is goated and the best, but the duels and arguments of ideals i feel were better portrayed in the sub like the teacher with scar knight vs judai or amon vs edo(lowkey one of the best duels), and of course kaiser vs dark johan. But your analysis of Jaden was spot on, dont let the GX haters bring you down. Good stuff. You get a sub from me.
Honestly I loved it all. Seasons 1-2 were so much fun and episodic. Season 4 is the weakest plot wise but i definitely enjoy season 1 and 2 a lot. And its thanks to the dub that it was so much fun
Whoa, does the dub treat The Supreme King as a diffwrent person than Jaden?? It's like, quite important that they're the same person, just diffsremt aapects. The Supreme King is the part of Jaden that sees the world in black and white, who is cold to everyone, as a way to shield himself. It's either O'brien or Jim who directly states (in the sub anyway) that he neefs to break through the Supreme King emotional shield to get throufh to Jaden. There are a few characters who talk as if they're different, but doing so upsets Jaden because they're *wrong*. What did the dub have Cyrus say in the final Yubel fight i have to wonder? Cause in Japanese, he says to Jaden that he needs to embracs both The Supreme King *and* his old self to become strong enough to beat Yubel!
You didn’t really mention that yubel does all this because that’s how she/he/them shows their love to jaden. She is obsessed with jaden. On another note Jaden was so infectious and greatly impacted me as a teenager. He was so cool

@LateNightStrawhat1 This character was magic. Magic, I don't think Konami can replicate. They truly created a character that grew up along with the audience. And his character is proof of that. His struggles felt so real and the bond he has with his Elemental Heroes.....Jaden truly became friends with the cards he plays, and I love that about him. It's an attitude that we can learn from. This character is truly something special.

My second favourite duel is jaden vs zane . Its kinda like yugi vs jaden first jaden trying to use his brain instead of his heart to duel also he was thinking so much that zane got upset and told him he is not himself then Jaden ate food and dueled with his heart and both had fun.🎉🎉 First favourite duel is yugi vs jaden at series finale the fact that Jaden bumbed into him at he got his winged kuriboh and after three years see if he is worthy of it not only that it was also regain what he lost in these years the joy of dueling . Jaden has been up against world ending forces and not so fun duels also he lost his friend to yubel and tried to retrieve him only to lose his friends that have come along with him then to become the supreme king and do terrible things and fuse with yubel and think he was the cause of the unnatural activities so giving a resignation letter to Sheppard only to find evil. And batting with embodiment of darkness.also he was all alone at slifer red. So yeah Jaden has been through a lot hence he lost joy of dueling. Hence the duel with yugi was symbolic and needed. To go up against the king of games and not having pressure to win this duel or someone will die and have fun was something Jaden desperately wanted and he got it especially when Pharaoh came out and summoned slifer the sky dragon. Jaden going against the Egyptian god his dorm was based of on and yugi saying that Jaden was a duelist worthy of having a god as his opponent is just symbolic and beautiful. And jaden thanking yugi for helping him get back what he lost and final freeze frame of neos vs slifer is amazing. (Not to mention he excaped a falling building and threw the motorcycle into the ocean in season 4 jaden was a badass)
Haha yes! I couldnt agree more, to me my favorite duel is zane vs jaden graduation match. I will never forget the end how jaden screamed “ITS TIME TO MAN UP” when he used emergency provision. That shit was hype af. And then how he got a tie with the best duelist was so cool

@@rex2g4 He was scared after kaiba threatened suicide but after that yugi went back to dueling. Jaden was actually scared to duel again and that was for a lot of season 3 and 4.

@@rex2g4 Yugi was not afraid of dueling he was scared to kill kaiba and he was afraid of the pharaoh. But he kept dueling on duelist kingdom. He didnt refuse a duel or have it haunt him. He went back to normal after it happened

Jaden is great and probably the best protagonist but if we just cut out the middle arc of vrains and just count the first arc and final arc I think yusaku gives him a mean run for his money.

But the first and final arc are the two best arcs yugioh has seen and I easily has the best final villain of any yugioh show.

Thank you whenever I hear people talk about the dubbed version of Jaden or GX in general it’s always just with a negative connotation attached to it. And I get the dubbed isn’t the best cause they did censor a lot and tone down or change quit a bit not to mention they never even finished dubbing the season but. The character development was there and it wasn’t bad. I feel like people often just disregard anything a dub does good because it’s not the subbed or it’s not the original so it’s therefore bad. But I love the dub for GX and I love Jaden it’s the version of the character I fell in love with and I’ve watched the sub and the differences people often point out are just so small and not picky.
I couldnt agree more. The dub's script was hilarious, like watching it as an adult is shocking. I didnt notice all the jokes and adult humor when I was a kid. Its also 4th wall breaking which I think adds to the charm. I just think GX was the first yugioh series adults edited to be more appealing to adults and I love it.
I think I relate to Jaden the most out of any protagonist because I too was a fun loving, easy going kid when I was younger but later on life got hard and I went through a lot of stuff which traumatized me as a result my demeanor and my view on life changed. I suffered from depression a lot and still do to an extent and didn't feel the same enjoyment out of life as I used to. Jaden also went through all of that and the arc of him trying to find himself again was quite inspirational for me, that maybe I too can get the same joy out of life as I used to. I also liked that even though Jaden got his love of dueling back he didn't completely revert back to his old self because there are some things in life you never heal from which is why he left his friends without saying goodbye, didn't even attend the ceremony. I feel Jaden as a character and GX as a series are often overlooked and it deserves a lot more attention and praise. Thank you for making a video on my favorite protagonist.
Of course! I am sorry you had to go through that, but im really glad there is anime that can relate to so many people. Especially as a kid you dont know how to express the emotions you are feeling so seeing someone go through the same things you go through helps you heal!
I agree with you before even watching the video lol Jaden has always been my favorite and it’s literally because he’s chill at first and then the story turns dark at the end and he just becomes a total serious badass 😂👌 to the point of overdoing it so much that Yugi had to come back at the end and remind him to have a little fun again
also in the duelist kingdom arc after the pharaoh almost kills kaiba yugi was actually scared to let the pharaoh duel so jaden isn't the only one that had to deal with that
I didnt mention it in the video because yugi was only scared for that episode. He got back to dueling fast without much remorse. But jaden went through it
@@LateNightStrawhat1yeah yugi did get over it sorta quick but it makes sense since he was able to talk to the pharaoh to sort it out whereas jaden had to recover on his own which would be a lot more difficult especially since yugi basically just had to go “murder isn’t cool” but jaden had to work through PTSD
Haven’t watched yet but preemptively saying that yes, he is. For a multitude of reasons like having fucking super powers? Like he literally just made Neos “real” lmao that’s so crazy. Plus from Konami’s POV they must be somewhat grateful for the whole incredible popularity of the Heroes. Ok watching now lol
I wish they would but is has been almost 20 years and the cards in season 4 arent what they are printing now. So it wouldnt inceentivize people to buy cards which is why they have the anime in the first place. I am afraid it will never happen unfortunately.
@LateNightStrawhat1 they have released remastered version HD on the yugioh pyramid of light movie. The snyder cut happened also😅. They should atleast do a continuation just like they did for digimon adventure tri. Or There should be a new anime where a new protagonist has a new type of hero deck (not elemental hero, destiny etc). Then after a while you realised that Jaden kept it for him/her
@@LateNightStrawhat1 I do recommend reading it (the anime just never finished and cut some stuff) while most people prefer the sinbad spin off cause it feels more like a conventional shounen I prefer magi I actually think it takes something from each of the big 3 blends it together and spins it on its head World building akin to op, power system and coolness of bleach, and the deuteragonist/rivalry of Naruto. Alibaba and alladdin basically fill every niche you could want from a protagonist. I could talk about its intricacies, character work and philosophy for hours but I’ll just say there’s a reason it managed to outsell one piece for a bit
Yusei is the goat and honestly really good; but I prefer my main characters to be light hearted and fun with the occasional seriousness. Yusei was a little too serious for my liking. But still one of my favorite protagonists.

Season 4 was the most disappointing Jaden character arc for me soo much missed potential and plot threads that went no where it's really sad except for the duel with Yugi that was the highlight and the best part of season 4
@@LateNightStrawhat1 I was disappointed with how after Jaden and Yubel fused they never interact once until Jaden's final duel with darkness like they could have established some trust issues with each other and they learn to form a powerful bond like Yuma and Astral it was a really big missed opportunity, not to mention Yusuke should have been the main villain and not darkness and we should have had a duel with Fubuke and Kaiser against him and Kaiser could have used his new deck that he said he would make they would still lose but it would be great to see and I wish they made the Jesse and Jaden tag duel a real team-up rather than Jesse doing everything for Jaden, plus I wish we knew who Truman was he could have been like Yusuke but desired the strongest deck through darkness would also explain why he uses his opponents decks in duels soo much missed potential in the main storyline however I loved the character send-offs of Chazz/Manjome, Alexis/Asuka and Syrus/Cho it was wholesome to see but yeah I wanted so much off of season 4's main storyline and sadly it wasn't done properly

Btw i don't get why you say DM is dark when you basically talk about the dub version. Dub is cut out all the mature thing from the series. Dub really rewrite lot of stuff base of what you said. great video! we JUST watched GX for the first time through these past 2 months. we did seasons 1-2 dub, seasons 3-4 subbed.
jaden's character progression is truly a beautiful, if sad, display of what is lost during the transition from childhood to adulthood. he goes from a carefree boy who only cares about his favorite game and hanging out with his friends, to becoming somewhat of a recluse, burdened by trauma, loss, and responsibility. it is bittersweet but incredibly relatable to anybody who has had to overcome traumas in their own lives.
Jaden is a reminder that we are who we are *because* of the path we have walked; our actions and choices, but also the things that have happened to us, all make us who we are. we can't turn backwards, we can only ever keep moving forward in this life. old things lost but new things gained.
for all of the chaotic, other-worldly, fantasy situations he falls into throughout the back half of that series, he feels like the most relatable protagonist of yu-gi-oh to me.
I couldnt have said it better myself! Jaden represents the transition of kid to adult and its sad to see your childhood self die. But Jaden was able to rediscover his old self and carry that with him as he grows older. I think that is a beautiful message for kids transitioning to adulthood.
You should watch the full series Japanese. Cuz it like watch 2 different series.
If the GX anime (loved the manga though) didn't felt like a mess, I would've viewed its conveyed message about growing up in a humbled demeanor.

In the first 2 seasons, Jaden was always smiling, to the point it was a shock whenever he didn't
In season 4, he fakes smiles so people stop worrying.
Also in the season 4 tag duel, I realized the reason he enjoys dueling AGAINST Alexis more than WITH her
trauma.
The last person he teamed up with was Jesse, who pretty much sacrificed himself.
So when its someone he cares for that much, he fears a repeat, feeling the need to do everything in his power to protect them
But when fighting said person, his brain just registers it as a duel between friends
That is a great take that I overlooked. That makes sense as to why he wanted to end it fast. He is still in fight mode after the yubel incident

Jaden is the greatest protagonist because, unlike any other protagonist he actually had to go through so much trauma without anyone helping him.
His parents left him home alone all the time because of their jobs and since the people in his neighborhood were to afraid of him because of what Yubel did he didn’t have any friends either.
So when he came to DA he was looking for a new start, with a happy-go-lucky personality and as the years in DA went and with all the threats he had to face and the way he handled the situations, no bat him a eye or thought about how he took all of this mentally.
Season 3-4 and the best examples for that since it actually shows how much it did to his mental health and how little the friends he made really cared about how he took all of this.
So yea Jaden is the best Yu-Gi-Oh protagonist, because of more than one reason, he went through more than any other protagonist, I mean he IS the only protagonist with NO loving parental figure.

I agree with you everything except 2 things. His friends really did care about him and his mentality. Thats why they sacrificed themselves to save jaden from the supreme king. Also yusei had no parental figure. His dad died and idk where his mom was

Don‘t get me wrong he has friends that really care for him but the ones that did weren’t really part of the main group like Alexis, Chazz, Hasselbarry and Syrise( is this how you spell it I don’t really know?), not to mention Syrise needed to be convinced by Zane to basically forgive Jaden after he abandoned him.
But this is just my opinion and it’s fine if you don’t agree😊😊💜💜

one thing i did sorta like about season 4 is that jaden just starts otking people because it feels like he's just fully out of patience and it honestly makes him feel like an actual threat rather than the sorta mary sue he felt like in the earlier seasons. the tag duel between tyranno/blair and jaden/alexis even shows this because he's with friends but ends up completely ignoring alexis outside of using her monster to help him otk tyranno and blair because that shows how done he is with it since season 1/2 jaden would never do that to his friends and it shows the effect that constantly being in life threatening situations would do to someone especially when they're just supposed to be a school kid

@@pn2294 because at first he was basically winning by using a deck that belonged to a pro and magically getting new cards like the philosophers stone whereas his neo spacian deck was actually made by him. A pros deck would make winning easy but making your own deck is a lot more difficult plus compared to the first episode where he beats crowlers ancient gear deck, season 4 jaden has a lot more experience so him obliterating people makes sense compared to how much he was winning at first since in the first couple of seasons he only lost a couple times

Jaden growth was suppose to mirror the growth that their audience would have also lightly been goring thru in their lives. when you are young u r happy go lucky you know what's going on but not really. Season 3 showed that his actions had consequences and that he couldn't stubble his way thru life. also tackling depression. Season 4 shows a more mature jaden that understands he's responsibility to the world and and to stop the evils that only he can stop. He became a character he needed to be to save everyone. But part of being an adult is after you become the person you need to be then you can enjoy yourself and have fun again. But that fun comes after business. Jaden's journey parallels the experiences that all teenagers must go thru when learning to grow up.
YES EXACTLY!!! Growing up is honestly one of the most stressful times and navigating that is beyond difficult. But Jaden gave us a road map of how to deal with adolescence.
Jaden is the reason I use Elemental Hero decks. They felt the most fun and diverse. Plus the character himself felt amazing to watch. This whole video summarized it and I appreciate the Jaden Yuki love

Jadens experiences in season 3 are highly skimmed over here. I understand length of time and all, but it also undermines how being IN the other dimension affected him, causing his decisions to be more erratic. Also the factor that yubel had taken jessie to said world and jaden felt responsible hence him desperatly trying to find him, at any cost. Those two things alone factor in jadens decisions and how the king ended up gaining control of him. Let alone the fact that you are wrong about yubel starting said war. This war had already been going on before she got there. No one even knew about her, she was on the sidelines just watching jaden suffer to find jessie, who she was jelouse of and possesing. She knew the kings spirit was incharge of the worlds war, and said spirit was connected to jaden. So him being in the same place as said persona would eventually lead to jaden falling to the spirits influence. Which happened without her needing to even lift a finger. She was originally his protector, so she always knew about his powers as a child and who he was. His parents knew too, hence why his father gave him her card. This is also why they used science to block his powers as a child when yubel became too much for him and was causing him pain and trouble. Yugi woke those powers back up in episode 1. But jadens supreme king spirit was still partially bound to the other world, so we never fully see its interactions in the first two seasons. Plus with his memory block his parents made, he didnt remember yubel or why he was given her. So he was unaware of his powers of darkness and his being a reincarnation of a king from another world.
Honestly his parents should have talked to him more about it, seeing as they knew about it. But alas, its yugioh the only adults allowed are teaching figures and villians. Sometimes teaching villians even. But not just to be there to help on the sidelines. Sigh.
Anyhow, thank you for supporting jaden. He deserves all the support for how awesome he is. And for being such a great representative of adhd brains. ❤

Happy lated birthday and you're not the only one who loves Jaden as your favorite Yugioh Protagonist cuz Jaden is my all time #1 favorite Yugioh protagonist and character throughout the entire Yugioh franchise series. When I first saw him he reminded me of Sonic and Goku cuz of their nature and personality in the beginning but Kyo from the kof series because jaden had no interest in his studies like kyo who didn't had any interest in his studies. Fun fact Jaden's japanese voice actor KENN voiced Kronhen from KOF15. All honestly I love EVERYTHING about Jaden as a whole especially him developing in season 4 but it does hurts my hurt to see him suffer which he doesn't deserve it Jaden deserves happiness and love especially how he was in the beginning so I'm glad Yugi helped Jaden regain his love for dueling back and his purpose from the beginning I love him so much especially how hot handsome and attractive he is. It took a "passionate duel" to restore his passion for dueling, I find this really iconic with Yugi despite his lack of screen time as the voice of reason to help those who reject their past or have conflict with it, it wouldn't surprise me if little Yugi, took up on archeology and came across artifacts that could aide in mending those who face difficulties with their past. Since his best friend, Atem was all about that, along with everyone he emcountered during his journey. Be they enemies to overcome or friends to win over.
The match with Seto really highlighted this in battle city finals. As in Yugi's words he could have been better, but his constant neglect of his past holds him back.

im not sure if the dub goes into this cus i only watched the sub, but jaden and yubel's relationship actually stretches back tens of thousands of years to his earlier life as the young supreme king, yubel's form is the result of a mutated armor she had to don to become his guardian and protect the supreme king, jaden promised her eternal love as gratitude but eventually died and the two were separated for thousands of years until pegasus found her soul and placed it into the card, but this reincarnated judai could not see or talk to her which pained her, but she still sought to protect him but ended up causing harm to everyone around him who she percieved as a threat, jaden was placed in a mental hospital and made subject to many examinations by doctors and scientists which depressed him, when jaden won a contest by kaiba that was a celebration of duel monsters and his satellite technology, jaden sent his cards to space which pained yubel, who misunderstood this pain as jaden's love, and so she would inflict this pain upon jaden and everyone he cared for - for that is what she thinks love is.
Judai is the reason why I like KENN as much as I do now. The way he can switch between the bright boy and that Supreme King persona oh god.

I think it is really interesting and fascinating how Jaden is more or less the complete opposite of Yugi in almost every way - at the start of DM Yugi is an introverted and shy kid who is getting bullied with only one friend, Anzu. Jaden on the other hand is an extroverted kid who finds many friends easily (Yes, he was alone as a kid due to Yubel, but he was able to make friends before the demon started putting them in comas).
DM was a lot about the power of friendship - we see this several times during the show. GX on the other hand shows how friends can sometimes be detrimental to your health when they keep relying on you to solve all their problems - Jaden feels like he needs to save everyone and handle everything, which of course causes him massive amounts of stress and anxiety.
Whereas Yugi is a regular kid, Jaden is a reincarnation of someone else. Where Yugi befriends the spirit of Atem and works together with him, Yubel is the antagonist for Jaden and the Supreme king is an obstacle he has to overcome.
Finally, the end of their respective shows are different as well; Yugi has parted with Atem and is surrounded by his friends. In contrast, Jaden has fused with Yubel and left his friends behind to go on his own adventure. (Except the ghost of his teacher and his cat haha)
I feel one thing that goes overlooked about GX was it was what the franchise needed. The original duel monsters changed it rules like 3 to 5 times. That constant rule changing made it really had to learn the rules from the anime. The concept of GX was solid and one where you could properly learn the rules of Yu GI Oh as they at the time.

To be fair, Yugi did want to quit dueling in Duelist Kingdom because Atem almost killed Kaiba, but this is only explicitly stated in the sub. In the sub, Yugi and Atem were not both in control like they are in the Dub,Yugi basically 'blacked out' when Atem took control.

I agree but i feel like this is very hard to understand this point of GX just by having only the english dub. Even some comments here, show they dont either get gx or understand jaden. The sub without all the stupid jokes during the first 2 seasons make it very strong story wise. You can ask anyone and they will always say gx was only good during season 3, maybe 4, and season 1 and 2 are campy comedy trash. Season 1 is full of nonsense but it did carry some good moments like chazz proving himself to be jaden's rival, the message of how you can believe you have free will but no matter what if something is set by a higher power you cant run away from that outcome(something we actually challenged properly in season 2), which is why banner is sort of a failed version of jaden, they were both "alchemists" who could make miracles but he saw it in twisted way and after ruining himself he wanted to see if jaden would fall too. Thats why he tested him. And why after dying he stayed with him and he is sort of the deadbeat dad and jaden resents him but keeps him around. Season 2 also gets bad treatment but there is some great stuff, Jaden takes a back seat but everyone gets moments to grow, Syrus stands up to his brother which is wild considering he would crap himself thinking about talking to him, Phoenix also gets great moments from being the top guy to being nothing and trying to save his friend, and Chazz going from being the rebel clown to being the genex champ. Yes season 3 is goated and the best, but the duels and arguments of ideals i feel were better portrayed in the sub like the teacher with scar knight vs judai or amon vs edo(lowkey one of the best duels), and of course kaiser vs dark johan. But your analysis of Jaden was spot on, dont let the GX haters bring you down. Good stuff. You get a sub from me.
Honestly I loved it all. Seasons 1-2 were so much fun and episodic. Season 4 is the weakest plot wise but i definitely enjoy season 1 and 2 a lot. And its thanks to the dub that it was so much fun
Whoa, does the dub treat The Supreme King as a diffwrent person than Jaden?? It's like, quite important that they're the same person, just diffsremt aapects. The Supreme King is the part of Jaden that sees the world in black and white, who is cold to everyone, as a way to shield himself. It's either O'brien or Jim who directly states (in the sub anyway) that he neefs to break through the Supreme King emotional shield to get throufh to Jaden.
There are a few characters who talk as if they're different, but doing so upsets Jaden because they're *wrong*. What did the dub have Cyrus say in the final Yubel fight i have to wonder? Cause in Japanese, he says to Jaden that he needs to embracs both The Supreme King *and* his old self to become strong enough to beat Yubel!
They did it the same in the dub. Jaden was scared of the supreme king but realized he needed his power

His struggles felt so real and the bond he has with his Elemental Heroes.....Jaden truly became friends with the cards he plays, and I love that about him. It's an attitude that we can learn from. This character is truly something special.

My second favourite duel is jaden vs zane . Its kinda like yugi vs jaden first jaden trying to use his brain instead of his heart to duel also he was thinking so much that zane got upset and told him he is not himself then Jaden ate food and dueled with his heart and both had fun.🎉🎉
First favourite duel is yugi vs jaden at series finale the fact that Jaden bumbed into him at he got his winged kuriboh and after three years see if he is worthy of it not only that it was also regain what he lost in these years the joy of dueling .
Jaden has been up against world ending forces and not so fun duels also he lost his friend to yubel and tried to retrieve him only to lose his friends that have come along with him then to become the supreme king and do terrible things and fuse with yubel and think he was the cause of the unnatural activities so giving a resignation letter to Sheppard only to find evil. And batting with embodiment of darkness.also he was all alone at slifer red.
So yeah Jaden has been through a lot hence he lost joy of dueling.
Hence the duel with yugi was symbolic and needed. To go up against the king of games and not having pressure to win this duel or someone will die and have fun was something Jaden desperately wanted and he got it especially when Pharaoh came out and summoned slifer the sky dragon.
Jaden going against the Egyptian god his dorm was based of on and yugi saying that Jaden was a duelist worthy of having a god as his opponent is just symbolic and beautiful. And jaden thanking yugi for helping him get back what he lost and final freeze frame of neos vs slifer is amazing.
(Not to mention he excaped a falling building and threw the motorcycle into the ocean in season 4 jaden was a badass)

Jaden is great and probably the best protagonist but if we just cut out the middle arc of vrains and just count the first arc and final arc I think yusaku gives him a mean run for his money.

@@LateNightStrawhat1 it genuinely one of my favorite shows ever and like I’ve seen a lot of actual but the middle arc of the show dragon on for way to long shit is like 70 sum episodes I think for no fucking reason. But the first and final arc are the two best arcs yugioh has seen and I easily has the best final villain of any yugioh show.

Thank you whenever I hear people talk about the dubbed version of Jaden or GX in general it’s always just with a negative connotation attached to it. And I get the dubbed isn’t the best cause they did censor a lot and tone down or change quit a bit not to mention they never even finished dubbing the season but. The character development was there and it wasn’t bad. I feel like people often just disregard anything a dub does good because it’s not the subbed or it’s not the original so it’s therefore bad. But I love the dub for GX and I love Jaden it’s the version of the character I fell in love with and I’ve watched the sub and the differences people often point out are just so small and not picky.
I couldnt agree more. The dub's script was hilarious, like watching it as an adult is shocking. I didnt notice all the jokes and adult humor when I was a kid. Its also 4th wall breaking which I think adds to the charm. I just think GX was the first yugioh series adults edited to be more appealing to adults and I love it.

I think I relate to Jaden the most out of any protagonist because I too was a fun loving, easy going kid when I was younger but later on life got hard and I went through a lot of stuff which traumatized me as a result my demeanor and my view on life changed. I suffered from depression a lot and still do to an extent and didn't feel the same enjoyment out of life as I used to.
Jaden also went through all of that and the arc of him trying to find himself again was quite inspirational for me, that maybe I too can get the same joy out of life as I used to.
I also liked that even though Jaden got his love of dueling back he didn't completely revert back to his old self because there are some things in life you never heal from which is why he left his friends without saying goodbye, didn't even attend the ceremony.
I feel Jaden as a character and GX as a series are often overlooked and it deserves a lot more attention and praise. Thank you for making a video on my favorite protagonist.
Of course! I am sorry you had to go through that, but im really glad there is anime that can relate to so many people. Especially as a kid you dont know how to express the emotions you are feeling so seeing someone go through the same things you go through helps you heal!

I agree with you before even watching the video lol Jaden has always been my favorite and it’s literally because he’s chill at first and then the story turns dark at the end and he just becomes a total serious badass 😂👌 to the point of overdoing it so much that Yugi had to come back at the end and remind him to have a little fun again

also in the duelist kingdom arc after the pharaoh almost kills kaiba yugi was actually scared to let the pharaoh duel so jaden isn't the only one that had to deal with that
I didnt mention it in the video because yugi was only scared for that episode. He got back to dueling fast without much remorse. But jaden went through it
@@LateNightStrawhat1yeah yugi did get over it sorta quick but it makes sense since he was able to talk to the pharaoh to sort it out whereas jaden had to recover on his own which would be a lot more difficult especially since yugi basically just had to go “murder isn’t cool” but jaden had to work through PTSD

I wish they would but is has been almost 20 years and the cards in season 4 arent what they are printing now. So it wouldnt inceentivize people to buy cards which is why they have the anime in the first place. I am afraid it will never happen unfortunately.

Jaden is probably number 2 imo it's sooooo hard to beat Yusei.
Yusei is the goat and honestly really good; but I prefer my main characters to be light hearted and fun with the occasional seriousness. Yusei was a little too serious for my liking. But still one of my favorite protagonists.

Season 4 was the most disappointing Jaden character arc for me soo much missed potential and plot threads that went no where it's really sad except for the duel with Yugi that was the highlight and the best part of season 4
For real the story of season 4 was the weakest and they didnt explore a lot of the characters especially during their last year
@@LateNightStrawhat1 I was disappointed with how after Jaden and Yubel fused they never interact once until Jaden's final duel with darkness like they could have established some trust issues with each other and they learn to form a powerful bond like Yuma and Astral it was a really big missed opportunity, not to mention Yusuke should have been the main villain and not darkness and we should have had a duel with Fubuke and Kaiser against him and Kaiser could have used his new deck that he said he would make they would still lose but it would be great to see and I wish they made the Jesse and Jaden tag duel a real team-up rather than Jesse doing everything for Jaden, plus I wish we knew who Truman was he could have been like Yusuke but desired the strongest deck through darkness would also explain why he uses his opponents decks in duels soo much missed potential in the main storyline however I loved the character send-offs of Chazz/Manjome, Alexis/Asuka and Syrus/Cho it was wholesome to see but yeah I wanted so much off of season 4's main storyline and sadly it wasn't done properly
