- This video explains which HVAC load calculation software you need to learn first if you have never used a load calculation software. Arman talks about his experience with three of the most commonly used HVAC load calculation software programs which are IESVE, Trace 3D and HAP.

Arman, the video creator, is a Licensed Mechanical Engineer (HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Engineer). He holds Professional Engineering (PE) license in multiple states in the USA, and is a long time ASHRAE and ASME member. Arman also serves in multiple technical committees (TC) of ASHRAE.
I learnt HAP in less than 3 days. I would say it’s the easiest software to learn for beginners.
I agree with IES. It takes awhile to learn however once you learn it you will understand why the other 2 softwares can't come close to the capabilities of IES. I use this software almost every day.
Do you have a streamlined workflow for IES that integrates with Revit? I am a BIM Manager that is transitioning our company from TRACE 700 to IES, but I have heard complaints and was curious if you know of any really good resources to streamline the process. I know that you can do some Python scripting to make things faster, but any info on your approach would be greatly appreciated.
IESVE
Industry Usage: Low
User Friendliness: Low
Workflow: Complex
Ease Of Learning: Difficult
Recommended For: Experienced users with complex projects
Trace 3D
Industry Usage: Medium
User Friendliness: High
workflow: Intuitive
Ease Of Learning: Moderate
Recommended For: Beginners to intermediate users
HAP
Industry Usage: High
User Friendliness: High
Workflow: Simple
Ease Of Learning: Easy
Recommended For: Beginners and simple to moderately complex projects
I experienced HAP, Tracer and Elite apps for many years, however I decided to go with IES due to its flexibility for high performance and highly customisable HVAC applications where the other three static heat load apps cannot come closer.
Thanks!
How to get HAP v6 Software, contacting Carrier didn't work with me
I'm not sure if HAP 6.0 should be in the running at this point. I've been using HAP 3.x, 4.x, and 5.x for about 25 years now, and just tried to hop to HAP 6.0 (took the 2-day Carrier webcast course and everything) - and I feel like it's just not ready for primetime. If a building is really simple it's maybe okay - but I was trying to use it on a building with different wall heights from one side to the other, gable ends, etc., and it doesn't want to model that sort of complex geometry. HAP 6.0 wants a constant wall height, etc., for each zone. Bottom line, in HAP 5.x I can specifically input how much wall/window/roof I want for each space - and that's just not an option in 6.0. Maybe they'll fix it up for 6.1 though, hopefully.
They might have fixed that issue already in the latest updates. Try it and let us know if the issue is fixed.
I have a question where can I find a suitable course that explains HAP from beginning to advance?
AEC Learn’s HVAC FUNDAMENTALS AND HVAC SYSTEM DESIGN Course has a module (module 4) for HAP. It explains HAP from the beginning to intermediate (not advanced) with examples. Checkout the course here:

From where we can download Trace 3D
You can download trial version of Trace 3D from here:
