  • In this video we look at the attack in the 4222 formation. This formation is unique because it has 4 midfielders which make it dominant in the middle as most teams play with either 2 or 3 midfielders in the center of the pitch.

    i play this formation on PES, is a very good formation, and i use a second striker to help to build the attack

      Yeah thats a great idea. I like having the two strikers because one can always drop down and support while still keeping a threat on top.

    Interesting video coach. Who would you ask to help defend out wide with the 3 or 2?

      Great question! Defensively, it would be important to have a balance. I would like to have at least three players defending at any given point (during the attack). So, that would be either a defensive midfielder, both DM, or one of the fullbacks. During the attack, I would like to use the fullbacks to take part but to have them go up and down the pitch would be very demanding. That being said, in an ideal world they would be alternating, when one defends, other attacks and vice versa. Unfortunately for that, you would need to have fullbacks equal in ability both defensively and offensively. However, even that would be an issue as we exclude the opponents. Naturally, if you have someone like Mbappé on the left wing, you would probably have your right fullback be a bit more cautious and conserve a bit more energy to try and better manage against a player like that.
      Thank you for your question and your support! ⚽️ 🤙🏽

    With the numbers advantage in the center, wouldnt it make more sense to try to build up through the center rather than the wings? If the opposition's press wants to cut off the pass to the fullback the cdm can check to the ball and the cam can drop to be available.. Or the gk can play the ball directly to one of the cdms since the opposition cm is overloaded. It seems counterproductive to shift all those central players to the wings when the advantage of the 4222 is numbers in the center.

      Hi and thank you for your question. First of all, I apologize for such a late response. Now, the advantage of the 4222 is of course having all those players in the center but just because you have the players there, doesn't mean that there are openings. In a possession game with no objective other than to hold the ball, yes you would take advantage of the numerical advantage there. The opponents however will also try and compress the center as a result of the players all being in the center. Ultimately, the build should be wherever the free space is.
      So, your idea is logical, let's play in the center, get the opponents to close in, but then the ball needs to go out again in order to spread the opponents again to later have the center open again. Its difficult to simply attack through the middle from our half to the opposing half. We need both the outside and the inside. I hope this clarifies what my intention was in getting the ball to the outsides. Thank you for your support! If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
      Cheers! Coach Luis

    ive recently become a coach of a team, i was thinking of using a 433,3421 or 4222 but my friends tell me the 442 is the most effective, do u think the 442 is still viable

    • @LaVidaFutbol
      @LaVidaFutbol  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 442 still works and can still be successful but the 2 man midfield is a bit of weakness that gets exploited easily as many teams play with 3 players in the center of the pitch. So, I would take a look at the roster and identify what type of players you have. The formation that offers a good deal of balance on both offense and defense is the 4-2-3-1. The 2 defensive midfielders offers security defensively and offers a 5th or even a 6th player on offense. Either they themselves help with the attack or they stay back to allow the fullbacks to push up. I suppose the 433 can offer some of those characteristics as well but that formation is simply more offensive by design. I hope this helps you out. If have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    I keep hearing this formation doesn’t work in the premier league, but would you say the man utd players are just underperforming and not utilising the formation properly?

    • @LaVidaFutbol
      @LaVidaFutbol  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm so sorry for not responding. I must have lost sight of this message. To answer your question, the formation itself can be used and can be successful but it does require an appropriate plan and of course the players for it. Man United definitely have the players for it but its more about a team understanding. The premier league is one of the best if not the best league in the world so naturally it will be difficult to employ a new formation and expect it to be successful right away. Every game the team learns more about how to play in this formation and with time correct the mistakes so that the team maintains a level of success.
