Hi. Need your help please. I collected data and when i download, the Excel databse doesn't show me "repeatable question". How can i solve it

Hi there, thanks for the question!
1)the repeatable data should show up in a separate tab or worksheet from your main data. Can you confirm there is no second tab of data?
      2) in order for the second worksheet to show up, you need to have collected data using the repeatable question. Can you confirm data was collected using that repeat question?
      3) can you confirm you've downloaded the data (by going to Data - > Downloads ) rather than exporting the excel version of the XLSForm?
If none of the above are the case, how many questions are in your main questionnaire, how many are in the repeatable section? How many rows of data (submissions) have you collected? What format did you download the data in?. Xls? Csv? Using xml as headers? Or not? Have you checked what happens if you try to use a different format to download the data?
Hopefully this helps as you start to troubleshoot!

How can I extract this processed data into excel
    Any tips on this
    Thank you for wonderful video.

Hi! A couple ways to do this: You can use Power Query directly in Excel (so no need to copy/paste from Power BI to Excel - just do the data transformation directly in Excel). Or, here is a simple explanation of how to copy/paste from PBI to Excel: www.datacamp.com/blog/how-to-export-power-bi-data-to-excel

Thank you for the tutorial you helped me a lot!!! I just have a question is it possible to use together with data pulling to keep data updated?

Hi Janna thanks for the insightful information. Quick Question can this work in a situation where we have Repeat Data and using the API link instead of downloading the excel file.

    • @HumanitarianDataSolutions
      @HumanitarianDataSolutions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes it can!! I have a video recorded showing how to do this and just have to edit it so you can see. But yes, it is possible!!

@@HumanitarianDataSolutions Hi Janna, I am wondering if you created the video for that situation? and share the video here, pls.

This was a wonderful tutorial, thank you. Can you provide any advice on how to unpivot repeated questions from a "flat file" where the repeat groups are downloaded as successive columns (as opposed to a separate related table)?

Sorry I missed this when you first messaged, thanks for your question!

Can I ask a bit more specifically what you're trying to do? What format is the data export in? Is it directly from Kobo, or a different server?

@@HumanitarianDataSolutions Thank you for the reply. That is very nice of you. I am supporting projects using ONA and Survey CTO (both ODK-based systems) and was finding that all automatic connections to Power BI send data as one large file where repeated groups are shown as new columns (instead of separate sheets in a workbook as your tutorial shows). I figured out that if I use a bit of DAX code, I can dynamically separate those columns out (no matter how many there are) and create a new table that is formatted just as your tutorial ends up showing it. TLDR: I figured it out and am happy to share the solution if anyone DMs me.

That's awesome Christopher, thanks for that! I've just posted a new video this week showing how to make an Api connection between Kobo Toolbox and Power BI, and next week's video is about how to import repeat data through the API. I bet the end results are similar, although the routes to get there may be a bit different. If there's interest from you and others, could be an idea to do a screenshare video together and post it, so that others can also see how it works with Ona and Survey CTO? Let me know if you'd be up for it!

This was very good and useful, however for KoBo linkage with Power BI we need more videos and practice that how we can make do the analysis through Power BI for report writing
