Slick roads in Kansas! Job interview tomorrow. Hopefully, I'll be able to start buying some items to stock up on. It's been a long 10 months of unemployment. Pray for me please!
One here also☝️ I usually prepare a family meal and divide it into 4 servings and refrigerator or freeze them. Especially for when I work 4 days in a row.
Love split pea soup! I am blessed to have a sister and brother-in-law who love to cook. I love being the recipient of their delicious soups and other food!
Butternut squash was on sale so I bought 2. With one I made for the first time butternut squash soup. Wow, that was delicious. Larry, my husband loves split pea soup too.
It's snowing here in Wisconsin right now. Thank- you for the Teryaki Rice recipe. Congratulations for staying in budget for week four! I would love to hear some tips for storage of bulk items for one. Thanks!
Thanks to watching your videos (ok binge re-watching them a 1000 times) I have stopped getting take-away and treats when I'm out. I have been cooking and making the food I do like eating out at home. I did my food shop yesterday and for the last couple of weeks, I have stopped buying food that is not really needed like vegan pies, vegan lollies, etc. I do however buy muesli bars and keep one in my bag at all times in case I am out and get hungry. I notice if I am out and hungry I will make bad choices. I am so thankful for you two and the amazing videos you give out weekly.
Good morning from Barcelona Spain guys! Love your channel so much. I would really enjoy that rapid fire grocery saving video Hope, that’s a yes please from me. To reassure other viewers, I’ve found loads of great information on saving within this channel even though I’m a British girl living outside the US so there’s really something for everyone here. Bless you both, gracias y abrazos!
I love the aldi salsa! I usually get the organic chunky mild. Really been enjoying your videos! I’ve been vegetarian for years so it’s nice to see videos that have a similar menu!
I'm loving the series but I was getting very confused about the budget until I had a light bulb moment. It is really two budgets. One budget for buying the groceries and a different budget for the actual cost of meals. I also found it helped me to think of pantry/freezer items as a sinking fund so they were not paid for twice.
My kids oddly love love split pea soup and any lentil soup.... Started from when I was a very low income single mom I got a food box with dried peas and lentils... I had never cooked them before I but I found some recipes online and over a decade later they still live for both of these soups
Yes one video with a big list. It's nice having the info in one place incase ou need to refresh memory I could save it and go back and watch. I love your videos by the way.
Hi guys, I have been sticking around with you for quite some time and I must say that your tips and suggestions work even on my side of the pond (I am in the UK). I loved your .50c school lunches, I loved most of your recipes just adjust them to our taste and guess what… following your advice I am already a +£1200 in savings on food which will go to some other purpose. So thank you ever so much for being an inspiration and for your practical and down to earth advice. I would love your video with 50 or 60 tips how to save on grocery, but I also enjoy your videos on how to save in all other areas. Please make more of these too. Keep up the good work and thank you once again.
We're so glad to hear that our strategies translate to countries other than the US. Congrats on your savings. That is fantastic and we're excited for you.
I'll tell Larry that you are in the "no green peppers" camp with him. He'll appreciate that. Poor guy. He hates to even smell them when I'm cutting them up.
Great video series! Hope , your food looks scrumptious ~ could you please do a some actual cooking on your show? I loved to watch your recipes come to life!
I love your videos! The attention to detail, the cost breakdowns 🙌 so much helpful information and I love learning new tips and tricks! God bless you and thank you!
Thank you so much for posting this x It's such a worry, I'm here in the Uk and have recommended this to friends x We could all do with the help and advice to cope with the rising costs ❤️🇬🇧🏴❤️
Yes the video comments on saving would be very helpful. I can no longer drive because of my eyes. Do you have any specific comments on saving when you order online as always, thank you for sharing❤
Thank you for your encouraging videos! I would like the rapid-fire numerous ideas to save money at the grocery store! Also some organic gardening tips!
Video master list, yes please. Planned leftovers from taste of home are my favorite recipes and Family Circle magazine used to publish a one month menu that was super easy and economical.
All these budget mindful tips are awesome. Curious to know if you would do a video or comment on what a “splurge” special meal would look like for you. Thank you.
Johnna may want to use Raboto to see what is on sell in nearby towns. My hometown when I was growing up was the same with lack of competition. Almost everything my parents bought - not just groceries - came from a city anout 50 miles away but about 12 times or more the size of my hometown. Get 2, 3, or 4 or more friends and family to share the cost of gas on a monthly or bi-weekly grocery run to somewhere else
I love watching any content you share! We currently do a lot of the same techniques you share. Kroger “woohoo” brand and their markdown produce are our first go to. Hope my husband and you would have a cooking blast together. We joke that he can take a lettuce leaf and a bread heel and feed the family something exotic and delicious. Anything can become soup, be added to potatoes, rice or pasta and become a meal in our house. Larry, no peppers and onions? I’m just shocked! 😝
It's icy here, too. We didn't realize how much the roads were icing over until our kids just all left to head home. Now we wait for all of them to text to tell us that they made it home okay.
This is my first time one my life o have to start budgeting,we just got a new hose so now I have to be very smart with the money because I was never a good,I love shopping and every time I got one the shop I get something.
Nearly every Meal at our house starts with chopping onions and garlic, so those I need no matter the cost. But I mostly have carrots, Cabbage, Kohlrabi and frozen spinach on hand because they are frugal veggie friends. If aspargus or sweet peas were a better price we would certainly eat them more often.
We went asda shopping got some spinach and hubby made a amazing meal with onions tomatoes spinach and garam massala garlic a little ginger too, served with basic salad And roti love the tips...
Hope & Larry, would you consider doing a video telling us your target goals for various fruits and vegetables and other grocery products? I think that would be super interesting and helpful.
Rapid fire savings idea sounds great. Also if recipes were listed outside the videos on th website this would be helpful as I never found the black bean burger or how to regrow green onios & looked a while. Thanks. Love this channel
We love split pea soup!! Vegan, of course! It' s snowing here in Maine right now and more coming next week. I wish the nearest Asian market wasn't a little more than half an hour away, and the nearest bulk foods store about 45 minutes. I work 7 days a week, so it's hard to find time to go. Sweet potatoes, onions, carrots, celery, potatoes, nutritional yeast, garlic, kale are all staples in my house, to name a few.
The items I keep on hand are Asian ingredients (ginger, garlic, green onions, gochujang, doenjang, dark sauce sauce, etc) regardless of the cost, but I usually wait for sales on everything else.
My kids school does a snack program and often times by the end of the week they will have extra fruit and veggies. They'll make a post asking if any parents want the leftover produce and will always send home a generous amount!
I love split soup, I have some in my freezer from my last batch! The Aldi salsa is good. Instead of chopping everything to put in my beans when I make refried beans, I pour in about 1/2 a jar of salsa before I cook them. Adds a ton of flavor and saves me the work!
You two are brilliant! I won't make any spoilers at all about the big reveal but I just love that you are vegan - it's such a great thing to do for so many reasons. I'm with Larry on the split pea soup. I just made some yesterday in my Instant Pot, so cheap, filling, nutritious and best of all as tasty as can be. I make mine with a couple of teaspoons of cumin and then finish with a teaspoon of Liquid Smoke - it gives it such a smoky, hearty kind of taste. And it's amazing with dumplings, if I can only get around to making them at the same time and then transferring the soup to the slow cooker to let the dumplings cook afterwards. You might want to try that for Larry to ring the changes, Hope? I've just found your Smoky White Bean Soup recipe at the website (under Week 3 of the February challenge if anyone else would like to look for it there). I'm excited to be trying that one out soon because I think it could become a firm favourite. I'm always looking for hearty soup recipes because I have it several times a week for lunch. Thank you both for another great video. But did this month feel hard for you? Could you do it for longer if you had to? Did you have to try MUCH harder than usual to keep your costs down? Did you enjoy the challenge? I would have liked this little bit more detail about it from you, so if someone reads this and has time to reply, I'd love to know - or maybe mention it if you remember in a future video?
Yes I would like one video with a big list of ways to save at the grocery store. I love your videos. Very inspiring and informative.
Would love a rapid fire how to save at the grocery store. 👌
Slick roads in Kansas! Job interview tomorrow. Hopefully, I'll be able to start buying some items to stock up on. It's been a long 10 months of unemployment. Pray for me please!
Kansas resident too! Be careful out there and best of luck on your interview.
You are in my thoughts and prayers :) Stay safe and go shine on that interview!

Cooking for one person is so hard.

Gotta have onions and garlic!! Pretty much everything I cook starts with sautéed onion and garlic ☺️
I totally agree.
Yes Larry! Fellow split-pea soup fan here! : )
We have a Food Bank that helps me tremendously. They are so kindhearted. Our local grocery contributes food. Since I qualify…. It truly helps me
Love the salsa.
Love split pea soup!
And I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the rapid fire ideas.

@@pennynickels5216 -- that sounds tasty! I like the apple idea. Will need to try it that way in future.
Yes please. Master video and list
Taste of home is awesome. My kids grew up eating those recipes.
Foraging is a great way for finding greens, apples, etc. Also, planting scraps - growing green onions from the bottom cut off parts.....
I pay whatever is asked for pasture raised eggs. These are a must have in my fridge.
Yes, I would love a rapid fire video of grocery options! Thanks!

Wish it snowed here in Australia, you lucky ducks. I am just happy when I see rain lol
We went grocery shopping today and there were many empty shelves. More than we have ever seen previously. So glad we have food stocked up.
Yes that would be a great help.Thk y'all for what you do
You guys did great! And i appreciate that you included the pantry item costs in the total, other channels usually dont and it feels misleading.

Hi! We love split pea soup too. You are so lucky having all that snow. We have a couple of days snow a year and it's gone by dinner time. Boo.
Love croquettes - my mother taught me to make them in the ‘70s, they became quite fashionable for dinner parties back then!
Yes it would help i have trouble making a grocery list.
Hi! Hope and Larry!!! We love the Aldi salsa too!! It is a Good value and flavorful! 🤗
