    I especially liked the way you sorted the lock bar height issue in the open / close. Very clever and precise deduction! Great job on that folder. She walks & talks like an uptown girl.

    Loz - I love your fine tuned methods, and I appreciate you sharing them. Looking forward to seeing how the bargain Damascus will work out :-)). I see so many billets from Pakistan here in the States and always question the underlying quality given the price; should be interesting mate, Cheers!

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Rick, yes it will be interesting to see just how good or bad this stuff really is given the low price, likewise its for sale everywhere here too. cheers.

    • @RickRabjohn
      @RickRabjohn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LozHarrop I can't even buy the raw materials for what they are charging for the billets let alone some of the completed knives. Hmmm so it's either low quality or slave labor.....

    Thanks for this great tutorial, all makes a lot of sense and I've picked up a lot of useful info for this exacting and frustrating hobby. One question .... Didn't you consider a nail nick necessary?

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're very welcome! I have put nail nicks in blades with a dremel and disk but really the ones I make have enough blade stick out to grip it firmly and open. A nick is better when the blade almost closes into the frame. Cheers.

    Brilliant tutorial Loz, could I ask what type of solder you use, is it regular plumbers solder or silver solder and what diameter would you recommend? Thanks

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes just plain plumbers solder its around 1mm wide cheers

    Another good looking slipjoint. The damascus and the pivot looks beefy enough to be a very tough knife compared to some slipjoint desings...imho better this way. Have you ever considered a rise and fall indicator for slip joints?? They are very handy tool to tune the spring tension if you make a lot of slipjoints...and the fit of the knifeblade to that spring in opened and closed position. What i did not see in your slipjoint knife design is an in between stop when you close the knife. Any reason you did not bother ?

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Mate, I really do not make that many to set up for any regular production, that might change when i get a milling machine. I based the knife on a simple open and closed type. I have many like this which i bought over many years since i was a kid. If and when i do get serious about making more I will no doubt design in different methods of construction and fittings. Cheers.

    Loz, nice job, What was the finish that you used on the scales?

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thnks Joe, it was CCL gunstock oil, similar to Tru oil but leaves a satin finish
