The Warpriest's Armor feat does grant trained proficiency in heavy armor at level 2. It states that your proficiency with heavy armor increases whenever you would normally have your proficiency with lower armor increase, But the first sentence of the feat says that you are trained in heavy armor.

FYI, warpriests automatically get Deadly Simplicity at level 1. Player Core page 112, under Warpriest, under First Doctrine.

It's an option, though 2 action heal would likely be more useful.
