The SWS action: SWS/BR: Play from mouse cursor position means you can play wherever you hover the mouse cursor. Irrespective of where you are and you don't lose any selections. I've mapped this to alt + space bar as an alternative play button.

    Wow, amazing !
And you saying "We can do that as well" , is so typical for Reaper ; really anything can be done in it, great stuff Kenny, many thanks for this great trick !

@2:07 "What we wanna do is just move the edit cursor without deselection the items. If we check through the options, there really isn't one"
Just use Action -> "Move edit cursor to mouse cursor". You use this action item at @6:50, so it's surprising you didn't bring it up here.

Yes but that only moves the edit cursor, if you want it to reseek as well you need to follow it with "Transport: Play" as part of a custom action, like Kenny shows at the end of the video. But you're right that this video could be summed up simply as assign a modifier in the Track, left click and Media item, left click contexts to a custom action: “View: Move edit cursor to mouse cursor” + “Transport: Play”

Wow! I've been trying to create a custom action that works like in pro tools where you can snap a copy of the clicked on item to the selected item. I couldn't get it to work b/c whenever I clicked on the item it selected that item and then posed all kinds of problems for me trying to get the edit cursor back to the start of the original selection. But when I set the corresponding left drag shortcut key to marquee zoom it now works perfectly!

Hello. Do you know the command/shortcut to place the cursor (locater) at the absolute right-side end of a media item ...so you can paste an new item exactly at the end of another, for instance? In Cubase it was 'N' (next) or 'B' (back) to go to the very beginnings and ends of media items. Thanks

in Main section actions 'move cursor right (left) to nearest item edge' for moving between different items, it doesn't have an assigned key shortcut
or within the limits of a specific media item it's Ctrl+] and Ctrl+[

This is very similar to a behavior I Hope you can help me with. I would like to be able to edit in the piano roll, without moving the edit point.

      Can you be more specific?

For instance, when I have a short section looping, and I am manually clicking in drum hits, the playback jumps to everywhere I click. I would prefer it to just keep playing through the loop.
