He will (hear us) and be (near us) Well be (given) bread from (heaven) Tell the (story) of His (glory), it will (warn me) it will (turn me) Common (meter), yes they're (sweeter) When you stop (singing), they'll keep (ringing) Sons and (daughters) dipped in the (water) Coming out (shouting shouting, shouting shouting, shouting, shouting, shouting Shouting in the service of the Lord) Land-mark! land-mark, land-mark.
I hate to say this, but the Blues Brothers (1980) led me here. Charles Hayes and the Cosmopolitan Church Of Prayer Choir sang like their throats were anointed by God Almighty Himself! They even brought out the tambourines and the washboards, and the Holy Ghost dropped by for a visit and stayed. Now that’s a praise song!
I was there. This was at the GMWA in Kansas a few years ago. When they finished singing, just about the whole audience walked out because they had destroyed the place. You can't beat the Warriors!
Now let us all, all go back, to the old, old land mark..He will hear us & be near us. We'll be given ,bread from heaven. Tell the story, of his glory. It will warn us, it will turn us. Common meter, song gets sweeter. Christians singin, bells keep ringing. Sons & daughters, dipped in the water. Coming up shouting, shouting, shouting& well stay in the service of the Lord Laaaaaaand Mark! Shout Shout,Shout Shout, Shout, Shout
Now let us all, all go back, to the old, old land mark, and we'll stay in the service of the Lord. Preachers preach, preach the word, in the old, old time way & we'll stay in the service of the Lord. Lets go down, down to the river, in the old, old time way & we'll stay in the service of the Lord
I LOVE and admire Dr Hayes and the Choir's energy.. You don't find too many bishops these days that's STILL getting they shout on AND moving like this.. While they STILL know the lyrics.. That organ intro and run bassline sounded like it was Twinkie Clark killin the B3.. LOVE it...
The Also recorded the video on "I'll Never Forget".. ( Can be found on Savoy records) bIt ack in 1991.. this was the last selection during the credits.. AWESOME vhs tape to add to ur selection!!
NO, they also did a little bit of Since I Met Jesus. Larry Beasley, a long time favorite tenor on the choir, sang the lead. Father Hayes cut him off. If they had sang that chorus, "His yoke is easy", one more time, Mr. Beasley would have destroyed the place because he was feeling his helper on that one, and everybody was up!
As much energy as the choir gave the song, it seems to be missing something vital. All the singing of "shouting", yet they don't manage to get anyone to actually do it, not even in the choir. This song is a churchwrecker. For an uptempo version, I don't think the live recording of the Ward Singers singing it in 1958 can be beat. Marion Williams was brilliant.
The point of singing is to worship God, not to "get anyone to do it." It may also be that, with the choir so far back from the congregation, the feeling of "connection" to the choir was lost.
@@vanessabranch5696 uhh, huh? Lol what are you talking about? I know what the difference is between this and the movie version that the OP is referring to 🙄
Uh, this song was recorded way before the blues brothers was released lol. That was an over the top stereotypical depiction of charismatic black churches. James Brown is a legend but this song was in existence way before he performed it in the movie.

We sung this and NEVER understood all the words. Thank you for sharing.
"we a church choir, and we gonna sing church music!" welllll I started to shout right there.
If this was STILL church / gospel (rather than “pop” music) in church, I would show up every Sunday!
The Honorable Reverend Cleofus James brought me here.
Anybody named “Cleofus,” was or is, destined to be a pastor!
Organ player is killing. I love that full sound that he's giving the organ!
Jusy my humble opinion.
If you like the sounds of the B3, check out Lee Michaels Stormy Monday.

my mother used to play this song at night in her room before my aunt called her for prayer brings back old memories

I've heard this tune 1000 times by at least as many choirs. AND YET! This gets down in my soul. Am I the only one dancing?

WAS THOSE THE ONLY 2 SONS THEY DID?
I might upset some people, but this version doesn't quite have the spirit James Brown's version in "The Blues Brothers" had.
LOL...how old are you and what type of church were you raised in?...smh
