These are the remnants only of the old town. The area was occupied by several streets around the old mill that stood off the side of the town hall square. The old market, the charter for which was granted by the “bad” old King John.. way way back used to occupy a site to the north of Lord Street was to the side of Yorkshire Street. The old town did and still does need a development plan but it is uphill virtually every way you go out of town. There is a pride still there hopefully.
