Carriers are really hard for me to control in Modern Warships. The best I can do to kill these pesky CVs is closing in right to them. I dont know if its a good tactic. Also, when's the RF Varyag review, Terry?
I've been playing a couple of tier 3 games, but they're honestly chock-full of wallet warriors most of the time. If you've ever seen the missile spam the premium Chinese sub can dish out, and then you're getting rushed by a Yamato, it's not even funny anymore :) I'll get through some more upgrades, and then we'll see what the "free" ship can pull in tier 3.
I guess its now Stress and Games with Terry? HAHAHA! Totally got ambushed by those guys specially the Zumwalt. Hard to detect while also having very dangerous fire power is pure madness. Ill be certainly waiting for your tier 3 games! Hahaha!
USS Nimitz is good, but she has one main drawback. If someone gets up close and personal (a Submarine or a Destroyer), then the Nimitz is absolutely helpless. The planes are gonna get torn up by the AA Systems of the enemy right from the moment they take off (if it is a surface ship) and those MK19 40mm Autocannons won't even scratch. And if it is a submarine, and the enemy knows what they are doing and knows how to dodge air-dropped torpedoes, then you will be pretty much dead most of the times (given that the submarine doesn't run out of ordnance). Same goes for the CN Type 001 Shandong (atleast she has ASW Grenade Launchers to counter submarines and low health surface ships). This is why I didn't choose the Nimitz or the Shandong, even though they have the best T2 Carrier AA. In my opinion, RF Kuznetsov is the best of both worlds. She has one VLS for launching cruise missiles, which really helps both during offence and defence. Other than that, she also has a RBU-6000 for countering submarines and surface ships. She is very very good in terms of AA (better than the Nimitz AA but slightly worse than Shandong AA, in my opinion)... and if you use the OSA-M Surface-to-air missiles, then believe me, you will survive even a RF Loon spamming CJ-20 missiles at you. This is because the OSA-M has the longest range and shortest reload time of all the T2 SAM Systems, but also has the lowest damage per missile of all T2 SAM Systems (damage doesn't matter much when intercepting incoming missiles, but it does matter when shooting down planes... but also, given that there are 8 SAM Systems on the Kuznetsov, and the OSA-M has the longest range and lowest reload time, it is also very effective when it comes to shooting down planes). I use my Kuznetsov like this: 1) Missile: PJ-10 BrahMos 2) Grenade Launcher: RBU-6000 (300mm) 3) Air Defence: OSA-M 4) Strike Fighter: J-15 Flanker-D 5) Fighter: MiG-29K Fulcrum 6) Helicopter: 360 Invictus I have a max of around 511,000 damage with this setup. I'll still have to show off the Adm. Panteleyev, very much a fan of Russian AA tech :) I completely agree that Nimitz is a damage pinata for subs, she's my preferred torpedo target in general. I've tried both the BrahMos and Oniks, and somewhat prefer the latter - BrahMos does the most damage, but has a slow reload, so it's relatively easy for a target to get chaff off cooldown. But for a CV, where it's not the primary weapon, that's probably a different story. Kuznetsov is definitely my next target for CV. And Shandong is the same class IRL :)
@@FunandGameswithTerry Yeah, I had decided to get the Shandong first, but then saw the helplessness it faces when it is attacked by a DDG/FFG or a submarine. I didn't like that helplessness and chose the Kuznetsov instead XD. Yeah I love Russian AA too... I was actually very disappointed when I saw the ineffectiveness of gun-based AA in this game. The Kortik and AK-630-2 IRL can even take down literally every supersonic and subsonic cruise missile.
@@sukritbera5244 Tbh, if I wanted a CV with close range defense, I'd just get Cavour instead. I found Kuznetsov's missile to be gimmicky at best, and it's only good for "haha missile on runway, how wacky is that". She's not as hopeless as Ulyanovsk though to be fair. I'm aware that Cavour has trash AA, but you don't need AA if the enemy is dead.
@@LiteBosmark Trash AA matters to me the most. What good is it, if you get rekt by missiles from things like the Loon and the Arleigh Burke before your planes can scratch them? What good is it, if your AA takes a crap ton of time to shoot down a plane, giving it all the time to hit you with all ordnance that it has? That was one of the reasons I didn't like the Cavour. I like balanced ships, and in my opinion, most of the Russian ships are very well balanced, including CVs. You don't need AA if your enemy is dead. But you do need it when they're alive. I haven't been hit by a single missile in all of my 30 Kuznetsov online matches). Add to your AA Defences a CAP (Combat Air Patrol) of 1 × 360 Invictus Helicopter and 3 × MiG-29K Fulcrum Fighters, and enemy strike fighters and helicopters will be blown to oblivion in a few seconds. Also, a P-800 Onyx or a PJ-10 BrahMos is not a joke. It can deal a huge amount of damage in CQC, if it hits, and can also decisively put the battle in your favour.

Loon can overwhelm her AA but I just kill them first minute with my planes for that very reason. I already know the AA setup, that is why I put 8 OSA on my Shandong as well. Brahmos at close range might hurt a bit, but I never found it anything special, and therefore that missile slot is just a funny little gimmick for me.
well, they did at some point consider making an F-15E, but the Sea Eagle never made it past the design stage. Why they didn't use the Tomcat instead, or the Super Hornet, if they wanted a more recent loadout, escapes me. It's not a hugely realistic game, more of a naval-themed arcade shooter :)
LMAO i just started and i bought harrier cus i wasnt level 5 yet and couldnt buy any ships turns out i cant put it on my poopy tier 1 ship so i just have attack plane that cost 3 times more than my ship what do i do?
Instead of afterburning to your targets, hit the brakes and glide to them. Empty your payload, and return to your carrier to reload. That way you don't lose planes with every sortie
This is what makes the J15 so effective at tier 2. However, most of the tier 3 strike fighters have bombs and a lot of missiles like X35 and AGM-158 JASSM are easily intercepted by AA, forcing you to get closer quickly to maximize effectiveness. Tier 3 CVs are much easier to kill than tier 2 CVs from my experience, so you really need to do all the damage you can immediately.

Torpedoes have a relatively narrow aiming / homing "cone". Imagine them not being able to track sideways very much. So if you're in a reasonably fast ship, rapidly changing speed or course is one way to get "outside" the tracking cone. Alternatively, if you've got a mortar (they call them "grenade launchers" for some reason), you can (and should) use that to destroy incoming torpedoes. Point it at the little grey aiming circle below the torp indicator, and try to kill it at medium range (too close and the kill doesn't register, too far and you'll likely miss)
Been following you for WOWS content for a long time. Ive been tempted to try this game. But compared to the realism of Blitz, idk... Its too "arcade-y", and the weirdness, like having Eagles on the carrier... Ugh, idk....
It's definitely arcade. For me, it occupies the slot of "I've got 5-10m to bridge (waiting for a bus or something), and it's not enough to start up WoWs". It's a quick game, and it's just tactical enough to keep me interested (and gives me a reason to research more modern naval weaponry)
I actually consider Nimitz worse than QE because she's of conventional function and worse than the others (Kuznetsov, Shandong). At least QE has funny drone strike, although Nimitz is probably better than her objectively speaking.

Nimitz is the most resistent tier 2 and F-15 deals more damage because of the bombs, also it's faster.
