CAMBODIA: HUN SEN'S TROOPS PUSH CLOSER TO RIVAL RESISTANCE

The forces of Cambodian strongman Hun Sen have pushed to within seven kilometres (four miles) of the last stronghold of royalist resistance.
Soldiers loyal to Hun Sen say they have been ordered to seize within three days O'Smach, a border enclave to which more than 15-thousand resistance fighters and civilians have fled.
Hun Sen's troops relentlessly push back Prince Norodom Ranariddh's forces- now bottled up in a small area known as O'Smach in northern Cambodia near the Thai border.
After years of fighting the Khmer Rouge there's certainly no shortage of weapons for Hun Sen's forces to fight their new enemy.
Villages along Highway 68, the main route towards O'Smach, have fallen like dominoes to Hun Sen's forces despite artillery fire from the royalists and a multitude of homemade mines and booby traps.
Soldiers and civilians loyal to Prince Norodom Ranariddh fled Phnom Penh and other areas of the country last month, with a number heading into this jungled region.
The prince was deposed in a bloody coup July 5-6 by Second Premier Hun Sen, with whom he had shared power.
Despite the success of Hun Sen's troops the campaign in northern Cambodia has been tough going.
Last Thursday Cambodia's leader ordered O'Smach captured within a day. And earlier official reports from his side claimed the troops were closer to O'Smach than seven kilometers (four miles).
The hospital at Samrong, the main town in the region and now in Hun Sen's hands, was overflowing with patients suffering from landmine explosions, malaria and tuberculosis.
Doctors say that royalist soldiers took all the medical supplies and equipment needed for operations when they withdrew.
According to staff this 19-year-old captured royalist soldier will have to be sent to the provincial capital of Siem Reap in northwestern Cambodia or the capital of Phnom Penh to have his leg amputated.
Hundreds of villagers who had fled to Samrong were beginning to return to their villages by ox-cart or on foot to try to save rice which should have been harvested one month ago.
Meanwhile, Ranariddh is travelling to the Philippines to meet with its president Fidel Ramos.
Ranariddh has been trying to lobby other countries, especially in Southeast Asia, to oppose Hun Sen's takeover.
The ousted First Premier however was denied permission to travel through Thailand to O'Smach, even though he said he would merely provide humanitarian support.
But Thai authorities say they don't want any party to use their country as a base to conduct armed resistance or interfere in the internal affairs of Cambodia.

Khmer fought against khmer, for one master. . . khmer killed each other for the same master and still doing it today. Khmer will never wake up because khmer never learn from the past lessons. . . The past lessons should have taught us all the mistakes we made . We must stop fighting among ourselves and work together to save our country from falling into the hands of the foreigners. . .

But one thing i was in couple war and freedom for cambordia I was there to help them. you guy lucky shooting thru tv screen are totally different feeling. the true is we all smoke when we were soldiers. and don't come up to any soldiers and tell them to put out cigarettes they will kill you. I'm sure 100% soldier are smokers anyway. so keep shoot thru the tv screen and having smoking break anytime if you feel like ok. and be smart stay away when war time run far as you can. and dont be a stupid telling them put out their cigarrettes ok . grow up kids
